“Sidforever” has sent the following in;
“I am glad to see Scott Sinclair has signed. I like the fact he adds goals from midfield and adds pace to the team. If his price is £2.6m, I reckon this is a very good piece of business by Villa. It will be interesting to see who else will be signed.”
The comment is nicely to the point, but a bit brief, so I’ll add my tuppence worth.
The story, reported in the Mirror amongst others, is that the deal had been agreed while Paul Lambert was in charge and now that we’ve confirmed our survival in the Premier league, it’s automatically kicked in.
And if Clubcall are to be believed, Sherwood didn’t even know anything about it.
I suspect there might be some journalistic licence involved in that article, but if it’s true, you have to wonder what Sherwood thinks about it, given that Sinclair hasn’t had much playing time, even with his injury taken into consideration.
If Sherwood doesn’t rate Sinclair that highly (and I’m not suggesting he does or doesn’t), surely he must be wondering who else he could have bought with the money instead?
It’s just a thought.
Personally, I agree with Sid, in that it’s not bad business.
Let’s face it, £2.5 million is very little in planet Prem terms.
Good luck to him, I say. He seems to have a very professional attitude and will at least make a good squad member.
Especially if we’re going to be involved in the Europa league next season.
Good signing, no-brainer. Very good value for money in todays market IMO. Love getting the signings in early. Now for Tom!
p.s. I dont believe Tim didnt know about it…thats got to be a wind up!
You have to laugh Langford.
I think its a good signing. If SInclair can keep fit and learn to play Tim’s way I’m sure he have a part to play next season.
As already been said £2.5 million isn’t what it used to be.
God it just struck me that I can well remember Francis when he was the first £1 million player. Well that’s inflation for you.
UTV and roll on next season
Inflation? Don’t start me.
I bought a certain chocolate bar the other day, for the first time in ages.
It was half the size I remembered and four times the price! 🙁
Peanuts price by premier league standards…
Whether he can find a role in Sherwood’s preferred team is another question altogether, but c’mon, there’s more money than ever coming to PL clubs next season, so this isn’t even going to be a blip on the radar once the rest of the transfers in the division start appearing in the next few weeks.
Just because there’s more money didn’t mean Lerner will spend it. He’s proven time again that £10m will keep us up so why would he spend any more?
Oh well if he did spend more there would be nothing to talk about on the forums
Yep, loads of dough in the game, but what worries me is we’re mostly asscociated with cheaper players. It would seem the press etc don’t think we’ll be spending much.
And then i’ve just read that we’re preparing a £15 mill bid for Charlie Austin 🙂
But only if we sell Benteke 🙁
Hopefully it’s a load of pony;

“Daily Star” ?
‘Nuff said…
15m for Austin lol he’s not that good. Looks like I’m right about bent eke just a question of how much and where too.
After saying it for the previous 5 transfer windows you’re doing well, good effort. 🙂
Was gonna say, he’s right? Be a first on here.
Austin’s well worth 15m though, not just a goal scorer if people watched him. Can do all the work Benteke does, but has a better skill set on the ball. I’d rather keep Benteke, but if he’s gone, then Austin is a great replacement.
Seriously? Benteke is much better than Austin imo
Don’t see a lot different between them. Benteke’s stronger, positions himself better, but technically I’d take Austin. His no look cross to Phillips for his goal against Newcastle, Benteke doesn’t have that ability to do so. Austin’s well up there with Benteke on talent.
We’ll have to replace benteke with a proven goal scorer Austin fits that Bill love to see him at the VILLA.
A good signing especially for 2.5m – 2.6m, but do we know wages yet?
Cleverly would be nice, but we barely convinced him to join us on loan let alone get him to sign a long term contract.
Media up here in liverpool are convinced Cleverley is going to everton .
I saw another article where one of the replies mentioned this, Little8.
The suggestion was that the media in Pool, Manc and London try to suck prospective players in.
As opposed to the Birmingham Mail who seem to favour the dark side.
I sort of know what the commenter means.
Hope so don’t rate cleverly at all. I think he would rather play for Everton as its nearer Manchester

Might make Oohah sad.
Probably coz he doesn’t want to be dropped for final so he can show talents to worldwide audience. Wait till after cup final it will be a different story. Also Liverpool is in the north he would prefer a move to London
Bollox Sherwood will play his strongest team even if he was leaving.I’ve never read so much DROSS
Well we all heard it now, bentekes true intentions straight from the horses ass .. I mean mouth :p
According to the sun I assume?????
I’m worried about how well Sherwood will spend his money this summer…
