Cordoba FC’s official Twitter account have stated that Cordoba and Aston Villa have reached an agreement over Jose Angel Crespo. There isn’t much information regarding the transfer or who in fact this player is, but based on my research Crespo is a versatile defender who can play across the back-4 but has primarily used as a centre-back. Crespo had played on loan for Cordoba during their season and had made his move to Cordoba permanent this season, until Aston Villa swooped in with a £1 million bid.
It looks as though Crespo will be used as cover for Hutton and a replacement for Lowton who has moved to Burnley. Crespo was involved with a fight with Cristiano Ronaldo when Cordoba faced Real Madrid. Cordoba fan’s claim that Crespo is a decent defender who did well for a relegated side, he is also very disciplined.
I really don’t know what to make of this transfer, there just isn’t enough information about this player. But the rumours are that Sherwood did fly to Spain over the weekend to talk to a few players including Malaga’s Sergi Darder. However, it just doesn’t make any sense to sign another centre-back as we already have Clark, Okore, Richards, Baker and Senderos in the side. Hopefully he’ll be a replacement for Senderos and/or Baker rather than the likes of Clark.
Without having any real personal knowledge of the players signed so far, all I’d say at this point is that it seems refreshing that Villa have been scouting a bit farther-afield than just scouring the lower divisions in the English leagues or the Scottish clubs.
It suggests to me that Sherwood does intend to instill a new playing style into the team, and at the same time get rid of the as much of the accumulated baggage of the McLeish/Lambert years as he can.
And that’s all good but after the false dawns of the past few seasons I for one won’t be getting carried away just yet.
No argument on that score BWS; it’ll take a while for the new side to gel, even assuming that they’re actually good-enough as individuals in the first place, so I don’t expect suddenly to find Villa winning many games from the off.
But it does seem to indicate positive intentions – personally I don’t think there would have been a lot of mileage in trying to get the McLeish/ Lambert team to do anything different to what they had been doing for the last couple of years.
I wouldn’t be unhappy to see a few more shown the door, but guess that we’ll be stuck with them until their contracts run-down.
You’ll get carried away if you fight me Lol.. 🙂
Saddened I totally agree I just cannot understand why so many people are so negative. All these new signings make us one thing, unpredictable which for the last 4 seasons we have basically been so one dimensional, we do the same thing with the same players, absorb pressure with a shit defence as best as we can and then hit long balls for someone to run onto in hope. Now we have numerous options to change it and play different styles. Okay it may not pay off at first, but then again it may be a while before they gel, but at least we have options and not just the same predictable dross week in week out. So get real and keep the faith, these players have hardly kicked a ball in anger and some are slagging them off or even writing them off. Without Benteke I see a complete change in the style of play. I doubt we will miss either Delph or Benteke, as both had roles to play that only occasionally came off, the FA Semi final being one of them were it worked. Players got wise to this and both were very ineffective at times as they where both too predictable. FFS cheer up and get behind the boys and have some belief not keep spouting bullshit to get a response to your negative posts.

Yup, agree with virtually all of that.
Sherwood and his players can hardly do much worse than we’ve seen in the last 3/4 years, so give them a chance before complaining that they’re not expensive-enough, famous-enough, etc.
Tip: Whenever you see one of OohAh’s posts approaching, simpky skip past it. Life’s too short…
OohAah’s posts more often than not deliver a (guessed) negative statement as a fact followed by ‘ffs’ or ‘says it all really’ to drive the point home. Negative for negative’s sake. Yawn.
As always I will yet again be proved right when we finish bottom 6 just like every other year. And still no one has apologised to me after I was correct and hot slated for it.
OohAh – like Lambert you’re becoming predictable and very boring. By all means play the ‘Devils advocate’ but ffs do it with some style man.
Mumble mumble :/)
I am just glad he(ooh aha) was not our manager for the last 13 games last season, as the negativity would have filtered through to the players and we would have been down well before the end. Tim Sherwood came into club with a group of players that mentally had given up and did what was asked of him. He showed passion and belief and the players responded. This season will be totally different with the new faces and his mark on the team and his new ideas. I am positive for the first time in ages and look forward to a marked improvement on last last 4 years. I would say a 10th place or just above finish this season would be more than achievable. Anymore than this and that in itself is a remarkable turn around considering.

Read on other site delph out for year done his cruicate ligament
JV – wouldn’t really wish than on anyone and Delph has had a whole history of injury problems – but part of me can’t help thinking there is a little poetic justice in there somewhere!
Shame, but it’s not like he was going to play much anyway…
That £8m is starting to look good business for us now especially as he’s off the wage bill. Makes you wonder how he passed medical
Blimey we were well lucky there
I’m hearing reports (Daily Mail) that Villa are close to securing a loan deal for Adebayor with an option to make it permanent. The latter I don’t understand as I thought he was in the last year of his contract with Spurs?
If true I am gutted for Delph that means if he is out for the season he will miss 3 games MCFC and the Euro’s!!
presumably spurs are saying we will loan him to you and pay a portion of his wages but if you want him at the end you will pay us a fee. (probably small)
Still don’t get it Steve. If he’s in his last year all we have to do us say no thanks and then a week later change our mind and contact him as a free agent! I understand your logic but still don’t see how Spurs could enforce it contractually.
Ridiculous he’s on a £100k a week. We shouldn’t pay more than £25k for him at that rate it’s worth a risk
Arguably Cordobas best player utility defender full back & centre back.
