I said in the replies midweek that I had no faith in the Villa as a team at the moment.
After a few days nothing has changed and even though West Ham are rooted to the bottom of the table on no points and not even having scored a goal, it means nothing to me.
We all know that if you’re a club that’s seriously out of form, Aston Villa will accomodate you and hand you all the points with minimal effort.
In fact it happens with such alarming regularity, that it’s probably the one thing that really annoys me about the club. Well, that and always losing to Man Utd, that is.
I have to be honest, I hardly care which side we put out, hence the squad matters very little.
That’s what Gerrard’s football has done to me I’m afraid.
When, oh when will we get a genuinely good manager, that can manage our great club, genuinely improve players in the way Pep and Klopp do and get us consistently challenging for things?
Apologies, I’m just thinking out loud, but I’ll bet it’s something we’ve all done at some time or another. It’s just so annoying isn’t it?
So we have to go with what we have and it’s the totally uninspiring Gerrard picking god knows who.
We don’t have any new issues and neither do West Ham as far as I can see.
This is a short preview, simply because I don’t really know what to say.
If we scrape a win, it’s probably the minimum we should have got against a team that’s obviously out of sorts, not scored a goal and conceded five in three games.
And if we lose, will it really be a big surprise?
Not for me and the only thing it would see is Gerrard closer to the exit door which contrary to what you may think, is definitely something I don’t want to see, because it means we’ll be slipping down the table with really tough games coming up.
In fact when you look at the next couple of fixtures, this game should probably be classed as the equivalent of a behind closed doors friendly.
I don’t want to predict a defeat, so I’m going to sit on the fence and go for a 1-1 draw.
Actually, I’d put a bet on it, but it turns out my Bet365 account has been audited (after several weeks) and they’ve decided to close my account and give me my money back. I think it’s something to do with the fact that the money can’t be proved as safe under the money laundering laws.
All £90 of it. You have to laugh, I suppose.
Yet again it’s a torrid time to be a Villa fan.
I was actually wondering the other day, which Birmingham club has really got that Gypsy curse.
I’ve just heard on WM that Bednarek hasn’t started today. Expect to see him in, in the next couple of days.
This is a decent article from The Mail.
In particular it reinforces Purslow’s personal investment in Gerrard and why Badger’s views about him being given significantly longer to ‘turn things around’ are probably accurate.
When Gerrard goes then Purslow should be in the same taxi.

Scott Parker sacked at Bournemouth – the first side to beat us this season.
I hope NEWS are sounding out a new Manager as I cannot see us getting anything but maybe a point from the next 4 games. I don’t care about SG’s reputation, this is very bad form. Utterly undeniable, especially with last seasons results taken into account.
I didn’t expect our owners to boot out Gerrard just yet. I was hoping rather than believing. Will it take a heavy defeat tomorrow or will they wait till after City on Saturday? Parker was sacked for losing heavily against City, Arsenal and Pool with 16 goals conceded. Surely Gerrard can’t complain if we lose the next two and gets the sack.
As for the Stevie G pull of attracting players, well it doesn’t exactly feel too enticing at the moment. Danny Murphy (no bias) said SG hasn’t been backed by the owners. Even though I agree that our net spend over the last year hasn’t exactly been overwhelming, we still have a decent squad that should be beating teams like Bournemouth and at least be sitting mid table.
Purslow will be digging his heels in to save face so maybe we shouldn’t be too shocked if Gerrard is still in charge after the international break, even if we don’t get a win against Leicester or Southampton.
Parker was sacked for calling out the board, twice, in post match interviews for not investing in new players.
As for Gerrard not being backed, I can’t say I blame the club for not bankrolling him to the hilt considering there’s been absolutely no improvement on the pitch since he arrived, I think it’s fair to say if there had been a vast improvement they’d have probably spent more in key areas to give us that final push to challenge for something but as it stands, it seems he’s murdered morale and there’s no guarantee he could buy his way out of trouble, throwing vast amounts of money at a manager who is completely one dimensional would be madness.
Guest – agreed on the reason for Parker’s sacking – never wise to speak the truth in football !
Also agree that the owners are not going to back Gerrard any further and we won’t sign anyone else this window which raises tricky questions over the decision to ship out Hause and AEG.
This has been a poor window – we’ve failed to materially upgrade the squad and our net spend is diddly squat. Look around at what the ambitious clubs are doing and it seems our owners are now focused on revenue streams, global brand (aka Gerrard) and increasing the investment value of the club – I can’t really blame them but it’s a pretty high risk strategy.
