Welcome Unai Emery!; Brilliant recuitment

So it’s welcome to the club then Unai.

Villa confirmed a few minutes ago that Aston Villa have signed Villareal manager, Unai Emery.
And I have to say I think that’s a brilliant piece of business.

I really can’t see any Villa fans having a problem with his being brought in, so it should mean that the fans will get fully behind him in a united fashion, which can only be good for the club.
This is just the sort of filip I felt we needed to get us away from those doom ridden Gerrard days and I have a very good feeling about this because we’ve spent a bit in compensation (about Β£6 million apparently) but not a stupid amount, which would have looked like we were going down the oil city type road.

This is also a massive poke in the eye to all those pundits who were probably chomping at the bit to say no decent manager will want to go to the Villa now.
Up yours, Gerrard lovers!

Saying I’m chuffed is an understatememt and the thought of having a top tier manager who knows what he’s doing has me practically salivating.

It’s a three year contract with a one year optin, I believe. Let’s hope he sees it out and more.

UTV and happy days are here again, for a while at least.

I’m pretty sure I read last night that one of his assistants somewhere was known by the name VILLA.
I read that much stuff last night I can’t find the relevant page.

Whatever, it’s almost like it was fate for him to come to us, wasn’t it?

A manager who knows the Premier League, and knows European competitions. Brilliant appointment, 4-2-3-1 suits us well, and even better that he rejected the Toon, πŸ˜‰

Wonder who they’re talking about ?

“”I know who the assistant coach is going to be but I can not tell you, it is also very exciting. He is a European Cup winner and Unai thought he was someone who is going to help him because he also understands Unai and knows him very well, but also understands the Premier League.”

ASTON VILLA: JAMIE CARRAGHER SLAMS SUPPORTERS OVER STEVEN GERRARD CHANTS

I’m sure that story was going around from about Saturday or Sunday evening, then got picked-up and spread everywhere later.

Still annoying to hear anything from SG’s mates; none of them seem to be able to admit that he was a dire failure at Villa, and will have to go rebuild his career somewhere a lot less attractive.

This is an amazing appointment BUT given the amount of false dawns down at VP I’m a little reluctant to get carried away.
He should be a perfect fit – brilliant track record – tactically savvy – successful – he ticks every box but this is the Villa so lets just see how it pans out.
    Fingers crossed (-:

Bit excited with the noughts Bum Bum – it’s Β£90 billion but what’s Β£810 billion between lenders and borrowers πŸ™‚

Still, you’re right even Β£90 billion is a mind blowing sum to be allowed to borrow – but there is a positive side, it seems only around Β£17 billion is interest bearing.

Perhaps they could provide the name of their bank – I would happily take a few thousand quid loan without interest!

Not sure what it is about so-called “Chinese billionaires” – or why they seemed to target Midlands clubs a few years ago (I should have added the Baggies to the list).

That, & the constant problems at the Hawthorns and St.Andrew’s over the last half-a-dozen years (on & off the pitch).

As Hitch has alludued -to, these ‘billionaires’ all seem to have borrowed their ‘billions’, spent some over here, but don’t really have any other income to pay it all back.

          Just as Tony Xia…

Sorry if this has been posted already but good, cheering news is always worth repeating.

Villa’s 16-year-old striker Rory Wilson continues to grab the headlines at Scotland youth level with the youngster bagging four goals in three days as Scotland’s under-17s qualified for the next stage of the European Championships. Wilson’s now scored 12 in his last 12 caps for the under-17s while, last month, he made his debut playing five years above his age group for the Tartan Army’s under-21s. The former Rangers ace, who Villa signed for a large sum back in July, is a goal-scoring machine. He’s popped up with four in his five under-18 matches for Villa so far and, despite turning 16 back in January, has played against League Two AFC Wimbledon and League One Portsmouth in Villa’s EFL Trophy campaign. Keep an eye on him, Villans, Wilson’s some talent.

    VILLA TEENS CROWNED CHAMPIONS

Staying with talent and Villa’s under-16s were crowned Premier League National Tournament winners on Monday (October 24). Villa won all six of their matches without conceding a single goal against Man City, Norwich, AFC Bournemouth, Leicester, Chelsea and, in the final, Reading, beating the Royals 7-6 on penalties.

Peter Saunders, Villa’s youth development phase coach, said: β€œIt’s a fantastic achievement for the young boys and a memory that will live with all of them and all of us (the coaches).

      Thanks for sharing that Gerry.
It seems that while we’re keeping an eye on the lads who are a bit older (U21 type age) it’s this younger age group that seems to have the talent.
In fairness to Purslow, he stated that he wanted the best 16 yos in the game and it sounds like we have a few of them.

It’s an idea Bum Bum I’ve never understood why Coventry city itself never helped, they are hell bent on finding land for houses and never for infrastructure and leisure. a city that Big now should show help to rugby and football for its city its self..

As I understand it, the City council have tried several times to help both the football and Rugby clubs about the arena. Unfortunately there are companies involved in the original ground sale who appear to instantly start all sorts of legal shennanigans as soon as anyone tries to intervene and sort out the mess.
The end result each time has been the council finding itself involved in litigation that it can’t afford and doesn’t need, every time they’ve tried to help.
The whole circumstances around the building & ownership of that arena have been a disaster for years.

It’s become so toxic that the football club have been in discussions with Coventry council about finding land to build (yet another-) new stadium for the past year or two…

The Magpies are unbeaten in 13 Premier League home games against Aston Villa, their longest run versus a particular team (W7, D6). So no surprise there! I have a feeling that today might be the day when we rectify that statistic. With a new manager coming in the team that Danks picks will know they are being watched by Emery. Hopefully they can get at them the same way we did against Brentford. The onus is on the barcodes to win the game and that suits us more than the likes of Bournemouth and Forest.

Hitch, I know you watch Canadian Pete on the Trinity show but it looks like he is moving to a platform where you have to subscribe to. Understandable if his goal is to get over to VP to attend a game and it’s a way of funding it.

Canadian Pete doesn’t seem short of a bob or two! I’d rather crowdfund him a one off Β£25. A fiver a month adds up, especially when you’ve got a houseful of DIsney, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Apple TV, BritBox all fighting for your cash, never mind a basic Sky subscription…
On today’s match, I CANNOT WAIT for kick-off! When was the last time we said that? The radio commentary is on TalkShite2. I think it’s gonna be a cracking match. I’m going 4-3 to the Villa!
