All we are saying is give Bruce a chance!, Appointment tomorrow

Well it’s hardly a surprise, but it looks like Bruce will be announced as our latest manager tomorrow, with Keith Bertschin, Stephen Clemence and Gary Walsh joining the background staff, according to the Telegraph;

www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/10/11/aston-villa-to-appoint-steve-bruce-as-manager-on-wednesday/

The Beeb are running the story too.

Seeing as I tend to call most stuff wrong, I’m going to blow my own trumpet and say “I told you so”.
Not that it means much, as it was looking more obvious by the day, wasn’t it?

So on the assumption that the story is correct (and there’s no reason to think it isn’t, except the Telegraph actually says “within the next 48 hours”), I’m going to make a plea.

I realise that while there are many that support Bruce being our next manager, I also accept that there is a sizeable minority that don’t and will quite simply never accept him because he was once at Blues.
Without wishing to upset those who don’t like him, I have to say I think it’s just pathetic.

I’m not going to go into the ins and outs, but for me, it’s summed up easily.
He hasn’t been near our neighbours for 9 years.
And he’s got promotion from the Championship 4 times.
That latter point is enough for me in itself and I believe he’s simply the best man for the job that’s required at the moment.
I’m not saying we have a love-in and make the bloke a messiah.
Indeed, as far as I’m concerned if he gets us promoted and proves dodgy in the Prem, I’ll probably be one of the first calling for his head.
But for now, we need to get behind the bloke and give him a proper chance to get us back to the Prem.

Most of us knew that RDM was the wrong bloke for the job and similarly, I believe most of us know that Bruce is the best bet of bouncing straight back up, as much as some of us might not want to admit it.

What we need to do is give Bruce a few weeks at least, same as we did for RDM. Hell, I’d like to give him a lot longer than that, because I know he will at least set the players up properly and have them drilled, even if results don’t come instantly.

Basically what I’m saying is we’ve seen that we have a panicky squad that needs settling.
There will be no chance of that happening if we’re getting on Bruce’s back from the off.

I see James Chester was saying what a knowledgeable bunch of fans we are.

You know it makes sense.

For you younger supporters, you might need a nudge as to what the headline’s about.
Just replace the word “Peace” with “Bruce”;

As it happens, I remember we used to sing the words “All we are saying is give us a goal” to that tune.
Things don’t really change that much do they?

Great appointment and exactly what the club needs at this moment in time. Have know doubt whatsoever that HE will steady the sinking ship and will get us promoted, if not this season then next. Today is a good day.

In business if you get your competitors successful top guy it’s a brilliant coup – in football it’s a betrayal. Strange old world!

If Bruce with all his experience and Dr. T’s financial backing can’t fix Villa in the Championship then what hope is there?

    Very little Hitch.
Which to my mind is why we have to give Bruce a shot.

If he fails, the only hope is some young and upcoming manager, still learning the game. Which is probably what some want, as do I, to some extent.
But how long would it take to get us promoted?

The thought of us hounding Bruce out purely because he managed the Blues scares me.

I look at the fact he’s managed 4 promotions not being the scums manager a decade ago.fans must look at the bigger picture & not just the end of their nose pardon the pun

Badger, Giddy, couldn’t agree more. Given that any managerial appointment (at VP so it seems) will split the fans then a consistently significant poll majority in favour of Bruce is a good start.

If he can get a couple of early wins under his belt and get the team playing consistent football those unsure (for whatever reason) will come round.

I dread thinking about what will happen if performances and results don’t improve.

If Bruce fails, I suspect that young and upcoming manager will be trying to get us out of league one – scary.

End of day who is out there that could do a better job. The bloke has been there, done it and got the t shirt( all be it a big t shirt to get over his old potato head).lets be realistic.are we gonna get a mourinho or a conte(phew glad i spelt that right). The blues thing was 9 years ago, life goes on. We need someone to steady the ship and hopefully bruce is the man, hopefully. There nlo such thing as a gimme these days, but hes got the chairman, the stadium , the experience, the squad?????, but above all he got us the fans and the lifeblood of this greatclub of ours. Lets get back to where we belong,be it this season or next. VTID

Derby unveil MacLaren. Massive bullet dodged there.

If fans at the match get on Bruce’s back you should chant ‘It could have been MacLaren’. Guaranteed to shut anyone up that 🙂

Apart from Houllier Bruce is the only manager since MOM that’s had any sort of consistent success in English football – all the rest where Randy shooting in the dark in the hope he’d land the next big thing (as long as they could work on a budget).
Bruce’s record (four promotions) says it all, right man, right club, right time (well fingers crossed).

A Reception desk, somewhere in Brum. The receptionist sees the same man pass her twice and asks him “Are you lost?”
“Well, I can’t seem to find the manager’s office.”
“Go to the top of these stairs, turn right and follow your nose.”
“That’s what I have been doing, and I end up back here.”

have we snared bruce almighty yet 🙂
i don’t buy the owners and the new boardroom experts, gave RDM two game to save his ass and not think we might need a back up plan should he fail which he did. swansea hire and sack same day.

i think bruce if and when he does come to the darkside. he will save our season and our club. it was going only one way fast and that wasn’t back to premiership. i believe the team lacks organization and a system that suits our players. with a splash of confidence and we will be BACK feeling good again with our once proud club.

It’s a short term appointment as 1) if we’re not promoted by the end of season Bruce will be gone 2) If we do get promoted, he’ll need to be replaced pretty quickly as he isn’t good enough for the premier league.
Nevertheless, sitting 19th in the championship it was hard to attract anyone better. Hopefully Bruce is that stepping stone to getting someone better and more progressive in the future.
