I was contemplating what to say and even if I should say anything at all, because the result today pretty much said it all for me.
But then it dawned on me that we were actually very unlucky in that we didn’t win this by four clear goals after Ollie did what he usually does, in missing some and scoring some.
Not that we can complain about him. He’s second top scorer to probably the best striker at the best team in the league after all, as much as I’ve seen some Villa fans ripping him to pieces at times.
The first half was a bit scary, because Arsenal were very dominant and creating chances, but the simple fact is they didn’t finish, while we were pretty much backs to the wall. We actually had the best chance, with Ollie hitting the inside of the post.
A funny old game indeed and the sort I was secretly hoping for, but didn’t dare to dream of.
Onto the second half then and we actually improved and started to take it to them.
As I type, I’m listening to Merse, who I’m sure is saying that Arteta didn’t have anybody to bring on. I must have heard that wrong, surely?
Whatever, you could see our belief building and the goal came via Leon Bailey at the far post.
And then blow me, if we didn’t get a second within two minutes with Ollie scoring with a lovely chip over the goalie.
So that’s a stunning result that has more than one benefit;
1 Unai and Martinez both say FU to Arsenal.
2 Arsenal get stuffed for the first time this calendar year.
3 It looks like Arsenal have blown the title.
4 We are still playing for the Champion’s league, when all looked lost on Friday.
It’s as I said.
Expect the worst and anything else is a bonus.
Because of that thinking, I’m currently ecstatic.
And then I have the thoughts of Liverpool fans at work tomorrow.
Should I laugh? Probably not, they can get the right hump if you wind them up 🙂
What a great weekend!
McGinn’s passing is wayward tonight.
If anything it’s worse second half
Sorry, Badger…Typo!
When is Leon coming on???
French League give Lille the weekend off and I think Villa’s suffering from Sunday.
In my mind that’s tantamount to cheating.
Or sabotage by the PL.
Referee is total crap – and that’s being kind
The referee might as well be wearing a red shirt
He’s terrified of giving anything against them, with all those f****** ultras in there. When they talk about ‘home advantage’ they don’t mean the cleanliness of the shitters…
FKkkkkk. Over now or throw caution to the wind???
Whatever we are doing at corners is not working. Why do we keep getting beaten for headers?
Ask Austin…
That’s done it! 2-0 down and another header conceded. We deserve to go out! Utter shite!
Is Teileman playing ? That’s it goal 3 we are out
Bailey Our Saviour???
Game over – not watching this rubbish anymore.
That must be the worst performance by a Villa side since Gerrard lost at Fulham.
Meek surrender.
If we lose 4th as well it will be a totally cr*p season so that’s now our target.
Game over. 🙁
Game over.
We just haven’t been able to compete.
The wide players have done nothing and in the middle McGinn has struggled so much he can hardly kick the ball to another player, let alone pass it.
I don’t see how we’re coming back from this.
And Bailey creates more in two minutes than Diaby has all game.
As usual. We need to give Diaby the 3 years it took Bailey to come good; it’s only fair.
They are the better team tonight and they were better at Villa Park. Maybe we need to sign a few of them in the summer!
How stupid are footballers?
Rogers, blatant two handed shove in the back of a Lille player.
Booked, for being an idiot. They should get fined for that, imo.
Digne has been owned tonight.
All in all, a satisfactory night then, Badger?
Well, we just had our first shot on target.
Duran on for McGinn.
Might as well.
I don’t understand football. Totally different from the Highbury 2 game.
Still, we only need one goal…
It’s simple. We’re knackered; they’re fresh as a f****** daisy. Oh, and the referee’s a w*****.
These commentators are absolutely shocking! Downing the villa every single single from the kick off. Piss poor to listen too
