They say the bookies are usually right and so it proved today.
With 20-20 hindsight, we didn’t even deserve that 13-1 that was quoted, in my opinion.
So what went wrong?
I don’t know where to start, but I guess the lineup is as good a place as any.
Cleverley and Richardson started and as per usual I asked myself why?
Gabby, who’s been reasonably prolific against Arsenal was not started. I know I’ve called for him to be dropped myself, but this is one of the only games of the season where I’d actually want him to play.
I just don’t understand Lambert’s thinking at all, as we’ve had decent results against the top clubs by sitting deep and countering. Yet what has previously worked was abandoned by Lambert today and we tried to play far too high up, resulting in Arsenal getting in behind us to score after only eight minutes.
The deft flick on from Ozil didn’t help matters and the sickening thing here is that I was thinking about him and how he was bound to score, just before the kickoff.
To think we were linked with him not that long ago. That’s how far we’ve fallen.
We were very lucky to go in only one down at half time, as it could easily have been three, after they had chances and hit the post.
Our defence just after the goal was a complete shambles and we weren’t picking their players up at all.
Do we man mark or zone defend?
I don’t have a clue.
Then we came out for the second half, where things just got worse.
We looked aimless and I’m struggling to see what there is to discuss here.
A couple of points though;
Sanchez, while he was incredibly frustrating in the way he gave the ball away today, was for me, the only one (Gil apart) that was looking to actually go forward and look for something. I remember him at least twice running straight down the middle, only for him to reach a position where you could practically see him thinking “now what am I supposed to do?”, because there wasn’t an option around him, apart from Benteke, who was isolated up front.
I feel really sorry for him and he surely must be wondering what’s going on in the way we play the game.
Gil looked good again and he too was actually looking to achieve something.
The rest of the midfield were totally anonymous and I just kept thinking to myself it’s either the players are utter rubbish or it’s the way they’re being played.
I came to the conclusion that it’s probably a bit of both.
Lambert changed it up, but it was already too late and the game was already lost when we went two down by a goal from Ozil.
At the end of the day, we had two chances on target and yet again, that just isn’t enough.
So, we’ve now gone six games or ten hours and twelve minutes without scoring in the league.
Apparently, that’s another record low, although I’m not sure if that’s in the prem or overall.
They’ve just shown a table of the lowest scorers in the English league, on the telly.
West brom are 91st with 20 goals scored.
We’re 92nd with 11 scored.
While I expected a loss today, Lambert should be sacked for that alone.
He should also be sacked for the way we came out against Arsenal too, as that was tactical naivety at it’s best.
But we all know it isn’t going to happen.
To think it’s Chelsea up next.
What’s the solution there Lambert?
Will you be mug enough to try the same again?
It really wouldn’t surprise me if he does, as it seems he’s untouchable.
And that’s a bigger joke than what happened today.
Sky saying no deal
lambert (striker) is a decent player, miles better than benteke at holding up the ball and bringing in others. which we need but chances pool selling is 2 chances,,,, no chance and fook all chance.
any other names ~ i think we will end up with nobody, i wouldn’t want to come a play for us would you guys
Total waffle, Benteke on form is miles better than Lambert at just about everything, including holding the ball up.
benteke is a statue at best. seen more movement in a corpse. come end of this season, he will go on strike like a ghent. force his way out like a model professional he is
if the first season wasn’t a fluke then that means he isn’t trying a inch this season. i personally hope they drop him and play guzan up front
Guzan upfront?????? Wouldn’t put it past the 4eyed twat giving it a go.
sorry i couldn’t help myself. but going on his efforts at arsenal, probably guzan could do better than him, he showed more effort booting the post after the pen, than benteke showed all game.
😛
At least guzan knows where the goal posts are situated so I suppose that’s a plus in his favour.
i don’t usually bitch about players or managers, but honestly giddy how many players did you see put in real shift against arsenal. benteke was not alone, i saw most of um down tools. it was unacceptable. they simply don’t care. they would if they were docked. benteke was happy to sign his improved contract. hasn’t broke into a sweat since he returned from his injury. just doesn’t give a shit
About time billy big bollocks aka Benteke got dropped. He needs a kick up the arse
Ive just twigged. This is one of those deals that never had any chance of happening.. I.e belhanda, brahimi, canales etc etc so Lambert can say well we tried really hard to sign a player but it’s January and it’s really hard.
Especially when your a crap team, no one in their right mind would want to be associated with Lambert and Villa almost down.
i second that bill, the door is jammed shut with the rats trying to get out and jump sinking ship
Hey Lambert tried really hard to sign a player but its January and it’s really hard.
robinson back at pne
anyone listening to talk shit, collymore says this lambert deal can be done if villa match pool demands. so its down to lerner buying a round in lmao
probably haggling over a dollar to two
We can look at this two ways Nath,if we are in negotiations with Lambert, could it be they know Benteke on the move come July, or trying to get Benteke to do his job? because he giving me signals he’s fed up with the setup, what you think?.
your spot on bill benteke doesn’t want to play for us and you can’t blame him. but if we continue playing a 10% interested benteke we are going down. is kojak gonna return anytime soon ???? can gabby or weimann play the main striker???? i want us safe and if this means spending our sky money. i say spend, i think benteke will be off anytime a decent offer comes in.
Surely it must be a done deal as we’ve let Robinson go out on loan, if not what on earth are the club thinking?
BBC reporting that Lambert is staying at L’pool.
[Don’t they want another one…?]
At this stage I would have gone for lennon – sinclair gil lennon behind benteke – pace and put a few crosses in at least
lambert wants to stay a pool, he did consider villa lmao i reckon he wasn’t pissed enough
See you’re all getting excited over nothing. Lambert went home hours ago but left the lights on do he could come up,with some half baked story tomorrow morning. First time for years I have absolutely no interest in the closing day of the window.
Already resigned myself to the drop so have lost a lot if interest.
completely correct Hitchens, I am just bored of it all….. never known a club losing out on so many players on each transfer day…. We have to be relegated this season, never known such naive mismanagement in a football club..
Spot on its all bollox to pretend we tried.
And now the end is near and we face the final curtain but lambert did it his wayyyyyyyyyy
I actually sang the song and pissed myself reading that!!!! You have to laugh really. Lambert did it his wayyyyyyyyyy…. Lolol I will sing myself to sleep with that one lol
we’re doooooooooomed
iam gonna start supporting queen of the south 🙁
I now support Novak jocovic
Do you want Dumb Fries with that?
One of the reports I just read suggests that Paul Lambert offered to better Rickie’s wages.
Not bad tbf, given that he’s apparantly on around £40k a week.
The player only has 18 months left on his contract and you can bet we’d have offered him a 3 year contract, yet still he turned us down.
That’s either great loyalty or just doesn’t want to come to a sinking ship.
If we’d have signed him I’d have been complaining about how he’s too old and talking about us going back to hoofball.
What gets me is if we had £5 mill to spend, along with half decent wages, why the hell didn’t we got a younger prospect in from elsewhere?
Probably because the funds have only just been ok’d after Learner watched that sack of shit yesterday, at a guess.
No doubt the bullshit dept will probably say “we’ve been trying for a while”, in which case why did Lambert say there was no one coming in, just a few days ago?
As someone else said it just smacks of desperation and shows what a mess we’re in.
looks like we could get messi and ronaldo
Il tell you why Badget it’s because it’s all bollox. We do it every window pretending to go for a player we’ve no chance of getting. Remember bellamda and client Dempsey. It’s a token gesture move so they can say to fans we tried blah blah. Iv we’ve genuinely £5m plus wages to waste then let’s use it to get rid of lamberk and get a decent manager. Thought not.
I know your thoughts on that Oohah, but many sources are saying we were genuinely in for him.
It’s academic anyway now.
It would be ridiculous to waste £5m for him anyway badger. He is almost 33 ffs. Are we saying he is better than bent who we could have for nothing. Something not right here imo.
So we turn our last potent goal striker (Bent) into a bench warmer after removing the service he came to us for (Downing and Young), we treat him with utter contempt and let the press know he is the bomb squad, even though he saved us almost single handedly from relegation…… Lambert would never have come to the Villa and who could blame him, just more bullshit from the Villa.
What chance have the fans got when the club treat their own players so disgustingly.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Lambert played Lambert like that, but Lambert isn’t that type of player and Lambert should know that. Lambert’s back injuries killed that at Southampton, but his technical ability and all around play is definitely superior to Benteke’s. Only of course if Lambert plays Lambert often as Lambert’s never good as a sub, needs constant playing time. It’s also fun claiming Lambert and Lambert as which Lambert is Lambert?
For f*cks sake.
That is all I have to say.
So if Lambert was planning on buying his namesake that suggests that he would be playing 2 strikers?!! Something he has never really done. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel…
Could we maybe see a 4-4-2 with Benteke and Weimann up front…??!!
Well that’s the question isn’t it Benno?
And it’s exactly what occurred to me too.
If he wants to play two up top, why doesn’t he play Benteke and Weimann or Gabby as the two straight strikers?
I suspect it’s more that he wants to “rest” Benteke (or at least offer the threat of doing so).
Or Benteke has got the hump/they’ve had a fallout/wants out.
That would certainly make sense if you look at how he’s been playing lately, after all.
I noticed someone said that something stinks down the Villa, earlier in the thread.
I said exactly the same today, to a Stokey workmate.
I think Benteke is either a one season wonder or he just isn’t trying. I hope it’s not the latter.
I’ve been saying this for the past couple of years now – what’s wrong with a good old fashioned 4-4-2 with wingers?! Whip the ball into Benteke and tell Weimann to pick off the scraps. Simple! Why are we making things so hard?!
it has something to do with being out numbered in the center of midfield. most teams play 3 center midfielders. if you play the 442 you simply get the run around and you wingers get starved of the ball.
looks like the players that helped to get us in this shit, will have to help to get us out of this.
It just shows us Nath nobody wants Lambert as a manager, that why we get turned down, only players we would get are ones from abroad , and that’s for wanting a chance to get here.
I think your right Nath – only problem is I think the manager that got us in the shit is also sticking around like a bad smell !
true….. but owner stench is just as pungent. players can’t be exempt from this mess. at arsenal the manager was badly at fault with the tactics, but the players downed tools and that’s criminal. they ignored the villa fans at the end, because they knew they hadn’t tried a inch. only a few went someway over to the fans the others made a shape exit.
if we go down at least we rebuild from scratch, players manager and owner will all move on and good riddance to the lot.
p.s its easier to mention the players that tried than those that didn’t ~ but ooohaha said benteke hasn’t been trying and i have to agree. i watched the swansea win over soton after our shambles. gomes the swansea lone ranger up front. had no service wot so ever first half. but he busted a gut trying to make bad balls into better ones. when he got the ball, he did his best to hold it, until his team got close to him. benteke stands there, but wot can we do. he’s the only one fit at the club that can play the role of lone ranger.
The likes of Ricky Lambert turn down regular football on improved terms at Villa.
Oh how we have fallen
Maybe he thought it would be only a short term move as relegation would then leave him in limbo looking for a team in the PL.I gather aswell he’s a Liverpool fan why the FUCK would he take a step down???
That is exactly what I’m saying Giddy, they will not come to Villa in our position with a man going nowhere, Players turn us down because we have no guidance in managerial future.
It ain’t looking good mate.
Bloody disaster mate, hope I never bump into any of that piss poor moron’s, I still think the only way now is don’t go, don’t buy, break Lerner’s little money making business, if you think back what he’s taken out, and pocketed, to what he’s put in, and remember he bought for ? What 62 million, knowing you get FA money, Sky money, and sales with sponsored businesses, to me he’s robbing us fans. He’s a yanky thief bleeding us Brits. Remember he’s asking for 200 million he won’t lose on money.
Lambert – Awrite brendan aam interested in lambert hoo much ye lookin’ fur heem?
Rodgers – Dunno Paul, I reckon around £5m?
Lambert – Hoo mony goals?
Rodgers – 3 in 28 games.
Lambert – Aye yoo’re jist showin’ aff noo.
We could not tempt any decent players, due to 3 large points.
1. The Manager is a tactical buffoon
2. We will be relegated
3. Decent players for no fault of their own have their careers wrecked by nasty and naive decisions (bomb squad)
We are on a mission to be relegated and I think Lambert and Lerner deserve each other.
Sooooo apparently we had 5M lying around and could afford to give 40K plus wages to a player..
Yet waited till the last minute to try and persuade a 33 year to come and play for us..
No back up player in mind.. NOTHING.. what a joke..!
A target man at that.. when we are supposedly trying to play tippy tappy football at the moment..
We are a complete joke.. with a clown in charge of our team..
We may well survive.. and it will be down to QPR Burnley and Lesta being worse then us.. that is the only grain of hope we can hang onto..
