Aston Villa 0 – 1 Palace; Relegation? Probably.

I quite simply don’t know what to say.

Many of us had real fears about losing this one and so it turned out.

My predicted draw was looking in the bag, but we never really looked like scoring did we?

And what about that first half? I struggle to recall such a poor performance from two teams in the top flight, ever.

Even before the goal, the fact that Guzan had made the better saves in this game says it all and it’s simply not good enough. I even went so far as to think that Palace would probably nick it.

I now believe we stand every chance of going down, as we create absolutely nothing, especially at home.

How can it be that we are reduced to this?

I’m thoroughly despondent after that display, so am cutting it short. I just feel sick to the stomach.

But I will say one thing.
While I heard many boos and jeers, I never heard anyone calling for Lambert’s head.
I’m perplexed as to why.
Unless of course, most agree with me, in that we won’t appoint a decent replacement or give a new manager any money to spend.

Please, Lerner, do something or we’re doomed.

Plenty of managers out there, but we shouldn’t even consider anyone British.
Rangnick, Yakin, Tuchel, Mel, OGS, Queiroz, Di Matteo, Yakin, Bilic to name a few. Mind you anyone would be an improvement on Lamberk

Unless we get someone like a Benitez with £50-£100m to end then this club will never taste success again. There is more chance of me playing for Barcelona alongside Messi than that happening.

Of course there’s a chance we can get them though. Other than Di Matteo who I don’t rate at all, was on the way to getting West Bromich relegated and when a few of the old guard left, his tactics were shown to be terrible. But none of those are at bigger clubs than Villa, most aren’t in as big a league as the EPL. They know they’ll get backed with at least 20m a summer as Lerner’s done every summer but the summer O’Neill left.

Just for a moment I thought I might be the only voice calling for Lambert’s head. I am glad to see it is the general view.

A performance of such staggering ineptitude, and a 4th consecutive defeat should mean Lambert won’t need to pen the programme notes for Sheffield Utd. Please Lerner not another bloody Glaswegian – I want to understand the excuses from the next victim.

I will go further, I shall not be spending any more money on tickets until Lambert has gone and Guzan, Bennett, Herd, Baker, Clark and Delph are out of the starting 11. I recall seeing Delph’s debut [a 2-0 home defeat by Wigan] and thinking WTF is he playing at? I have thought the same at most home games he started since.

Can’t argue with that mate. I want lambert out ASAP and like u will not go again until he’s gone. The football is as dire as anything iv ever seen at vp the players he has signed are simply shit no argument about that. The question as always is if we sack him then who do we get? No half decent manager is going to come to a club with no money or ambition. I’d love someone like Benitez and would trust him with £50m. But no way will Lerner pay that. We are stuck with this situation unless Lerner sells and that could be years.

Yes Helenius I am in a minority in criticizing Guzan – and all his supporters say he is a great shot-stopper. I agree with that, maybe Krul or Vorm are better but Guzan is no lower than #3 in the EPL. BUT… shot stopping is only part of the job, and at positioning prior to a shot, knowing when to come off his line and actually getting to a ball he comes for – Guzan is poor.

Another poor game – these holiday seasons really are brutal for us and the injuries this season are now coming thick and fast. Not many positives to take away from todays game, better possession maybe, but I would say that is due to Palace’s talent rather than anything else. Against any other team today the game could have been really embarrassing. I have to agree with the commentators today – with a crowd of roughly 38k the spectators deserved better and it really was a game of two relegation teams.

As for Lambert, he’s definitely starting to feel the pressure of the job. As he walked to the tunnel is his face after the match really was one of concern. The squad just is to thin and too weak – the club really does need to invest this winter, it’s that simple. I am confident Lambert will turn this around, but without the full backing of Lerner this winter Lambert’s sacking is all but written in stone this summer.

Lambert walking? Common, no manager would walk away from a club.

Zola walked. He will walk if he gets a pay off. Lerner will give lamberk fuck all to spend in jan remember last year and we were in a worse position then. Lambert is simply not good enough, his players are probably the worst iv ever seen at VP. Lerner will be happy if we finish fourth from bottom on goal difference which is more than likely what will happen. There is no point whatsoever supporting this dross unless you like pain. In the summer we will be linked with big name players again to sell sts and none will come to fruition. It’s the only time the club are interested in us is when season ticket renewal is due. I say boycott the club until things change but people won’t coz they are happy to put up with this crap

Defeat places Villa just three points off the relegation places yet Lambert does not believe his side are in a relegation battle, instead insisting his attentions are switched to their next game at home to Swansea.

“No. If you look at the table at the lower side of it everybody in that side is doing the exact same as us,” he told reporters. “I’m not going to be downbeat here and I’ll pick them up and go again on Saturday.

“The way we bounce back is if we win it and that’s what we’ll try to do and try and give them [the fans] something to go with. You stick with it and that’s important. It’s important that everybody sticks together.
