Aston Villa are scouts are allegedly keeping an eye on Genk striker Jelle Vossen. Paul Lambert wants to have a target in place should key striker Christian Benteke leave Aston Villa in January. Benteke has already scored 5 goals this season and has been linked to hosts of teams in England and in Italy. Lambert fears that Benteke may be wrestled from his grasp from January or Benteke will ask to leave, yet again.
Vossen has been in fine form for over three years in the Belgium league. He has scored a total of 57 domestic league goals in three seasons and has already scored 11 goals this campaign. Vossen will likely cost a similar price as Benteke (£7 million) but if Villa do sell Benteke, Villa will make a handy profit for a player whose value has risen above £28 million.
It’s always a good idea to have a replacement lined up for your star player. We all know Benteke won’t be at Villa forever and I reckon he’ll leave this season. Unless, obviously, Benteke completely losses form, misses out on the Belgium squad and no one is interested in him again. But that seems unlikely as Benteke has been very lively and has already scored 5 goals this season. He’ll stay past January, unless a team comes in with a crazy offer, I see no reason to sell.
Good post upbeat and positive.Nice to see us interested in goal scorers.Seems Genk produce that type of player.Doesnt actually mean we are selling if we are buying.Would love a couple of new signings January.I think Lambert will push on and get us a few more in the summer to maybe 5-6 players. As I’ve said many a time mid table will be an improvement on last season Lambert and AVFC are not looking to stand still as the moaners will have you believe not everybody is looking to lose UTV
Nice to see some positivity around. If Lambert can sign an attacking midfielder. Villa will be much stronger. Our defence is fairly decent, it’s creating opportunities that Villa are missing
JD i think Lambert is far more likley to push us into the championship that push us up the league with any worthwhile signings, he will only buy useless cheap young players nobody else wants and then hope 1 turns out to be good like Benteke. the Money we will get for him in either January or the summer will be wasted if Lambert is still in charge.
That’s your opinion you don’t have to put JD infront of it like I’ve goto change what I think and follow your opinion.
That’s a snotty remark JD.
Well jd if your positive good for you I just see it as more p r bullshit mate but hey someone got to keep the spirts up
I was replying to you therefore put you initials before my reply. You dont have to change what you think and follow me however you WILL change what you think a realise that Lambert is not the man for Villa eventually it just sounds like it is going to take you a bit longer than most people.
WWWAAAAAY HEEYYYYY, we are being linked with a proven goalscorer who shows some talent and is worth more than £500k………. It must be mid season, season ticket sale shortly….. what a load of PR bullshit makes me sick….
Looks like the vast majority on here think lambert should go.
Is that it now for the season though? What would it take to change your minds?
Could a result or sequence of results from the remaining 28 games or so, change anyone’s mind?
I want to see the criteria the next manager will be judged on.
Good point even if lambert win the next five games I’d want him out as he will never be able to sustain a sequence of results to take us forward. Of the problem is if not lambert then who?
It’d take a lot for me to change my mind on Lambert, as I was against him joining in the first place. He’d have to totally revamp the style back to the way Villa played last season, he’d have to stop coming out with the dumbest after-match press conferences, he sounds exactly like McLeish, he’d finally have to take some responsibility. I doubt I’d ever want Lambert to stay, as Oohah said even if Villa won the next 5 games as I don’t rate him and don’t think he’ll take us further then a 10th place finish, but wouldn’t bad mouth the team either.
Surprises me he’s still at Genk, he’s been scoring 20, 20 and 17 goals in the last 3 seasons. Also supposedly had scouts watching the Mainz game Muller, but Hahn stole the show so a possibility. Even read we’re still interested in the incredible Doumbia. If we could even get Doumbia… Wow. 😀
7m…why didnt we sign him instead of Kojak!!
If Benteke leaves the next striker we sign is one we can not afford to get wrong..
He has to be the right player..
What worries me about Vossen is that he isn’t a kid just coming on the scene like Benteke was.. so surprised if he is the real deal why no ones signed him up…
