Tim Sherwood has been busy this week securing some key signings. It’s rumoured that Nantes midfielder Veretout will join the other two Jordan’s at Aston Villa this season with an alleged £10 million bid accepted for the midfielder set to replace Delph this season. Additionally it’s strongly believed that Adebayor will be arriving at Aston Villa this season for a full season loan deal with a view of a permanent transfer.
Let’s start with Jordan Veretout, at the age of 22 he is a very young, yet very highly rated central midfield. He topped the Ligue 1 charts for more chances created. It looks as though Veretout is set to be the replacement for Fabian Delph who has recently moved onto Manchester City.
This move has been confirmed by Nantes President Waldemar Kita who told L’Equipe:
‘We are basically agreed on everything,’
‘I am obliged to give in, he is 22, he has a big future and he will play for a great English club.’
Veretout has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham but it looks as though Aston Villa have made the first move to bring in the young French midfielder.
Additionally, rumours are strongly linking Adebayor to Aston Villa. This rumours don’t stem from tabloids themselves, ITK rumours and people who know friends that work for Aston Villa have also confirmed that Adebayor is set to sign a 1 year loan deal with Aston Villa. It seems as though Adebayor will be Villa’s replacement for Benteke with Sherwood convinced that he can get the best out of Adeabyor again after he scored 14 goals during the 2013-14 season with Tottenham.
Those two would me amazing. We are in for a good season IMO
There seems to be a picture of Adebayor at the training grounds going around.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for a Premier League season with Aston Villa. The players that we have signed are all young, international and have tons of potential. Sherwood knows what he is doing, the is a manager that can get the best out of players and I have a feeling that won’t miss Delph and Benteke at all.
These signings are good. Adebayor is a risk, but on loan it really won’t affect Villa in the long run.
From the videos online Veretout looks like a handy little player – obviously talented and shows a great potential. A better, younger option to Delph personally but we will have to see how he adapts to the English game.
As for Adebayor, as long as Sherwood can get him scoring, I think he will be a welcomed addition on loan. If anything it will offer Sherwood the ability to mold the midfield first to determine the sort of player upfront we need next summer.
Not exactly a dull summer, eh.
If we ship out a few others too for squad room, you have to think our net spend is still negative even with Adebayor and Veretout – so still room for ‘Transfer Tim’ to get a couple more rough diamonds in…Praet please…
Any chance of adding Soft Ron to the transfers out and Cleverley (seen as though he is shown as an ‘In’ last season) to the confirmed transfers tab? Just nice to see what potential wages differential it all makes as those two will have been on a combined £80k+ a week,,,
Will be adding Vlaar to the Out section. I didn’t add Cleverly because he was on loan and was going to leave after the season ended.
think the last 4 years under lambert mcleish we had nett spend of just over 20m
Love Sherwood! Love Wilkins and all singings so far. Well hope we get these two too although adebayor is a bit of a risk as only plays when he wants to. Would love Austin! That said Sherwood got the best out of him so who knows… Very excited about this season for once in about 7-8 years… Sherwood is a legend already if you ask me true leader
If Austin wants 85k and Adebeyor is a 100k PW why arnt we going for Austin? Didn’t make sense
Yes I feel the pessimism in me is lifting certainly a question mark by adebeyor, in timbo I trust.UTV
Aston Villa Starting XI: Bunn; Hutton, Clark, Richards, Amavi; Bacuna, Westwood, Gueye, Sinclair; Agbonlahor, Kozak
Subs: Steer, Lyden, Robinson, Donacien, Baker, Ayew
Really happy with the signings Sherwood has made. Am walking around with a big grin on my face. Sherwood knows what he wants. Work your magic and get these boys to click. Come on the VILLA.
I know everyone’s asking how we replace Benteke. But let’s think about it from a goal perspective. What did he average? 15-18?
That’s what Adebayor averages. Then add in contributions from Ayew, Kozak, Gil, Sinclair… and we’re possibly worlds ahead in goals for. And with a more solid back 4, better GA avg too.
Guarded optimism building.
I think with the newly proposed style of play, we’ll score more collectively easily than the past four seasons. Spuds mate says Adebeyor always plays well when it’s time for a new contract. Let’s keep him on a one yr rolling one!
One concern I do have, with the Spurs/Arse connections forming, I hope our midfield doesn’t become as lightweight as theirs is. Very slight, athletic players, very little steel in there…
Fair point Bum Bum worst thing we could ever do is put Adebeyor on a contract. Once we do that forget we will get sod all of him. Best to have him on one ur rolling deal like u say.
All pro football players should be on 1year roll-on contacts, most of the fuckers don’t honour them beyond that point with all these clauses nowadays.

Thank you
No worries Dave.
It’s nowt to do with the EPL, so no problem with the link 🙂
We are in for Ruddy Gestende Blackburn now for £6m. Another Frenchman. Anyone know if he’s any good
If he is any good he’ll go to a sky 4 team next summer after he’s used us as a stepping stone. 🙂
1-0 Kozak, after a ball in from Hutton.
Kozak hits the bar.
Wolves look poor.
And another header from Kozak, after nice work from Amavi.
Leicester in for vertoute now
Doesn’t matter who signs him, If he’s any good he’ll go to a sky 4 team next summer anyway! 🙂
Abdolutely
Is he somebody else we’re signing? 🙂
Only reported by Leicester City blog based on a French journalist tweet. According to report have tried to gazump Villa by upping the bid – we shall see. Also reported that Palace tried to gazump the Adebayor transfer assuming he would prefer to stay in London. Reports say that he wants to link up with TS so turned it down – should be confirmed tomorrow.
Should have said tweet named Villa as the other club
They are offering 9.2m hard to say where he will go but bear in mind they finished higher than us.
I can not see villa losing out to Leicester if in fact we are in for him.
Liverpool / Spurs maybe but not Leicester.
As anyone actually seen a definitive article saying we are in for him.
There president said a great English club and then somebody said believed to be Villa.
It could have been Leicester all along.
If all our new signings end up at sky 4 teams next year it means they would have had a great season with us and we will bag £100 million to build again and get stronger until we can compete at the upper ends again.
Onward and upward.
1-1
Our defence don’t look very convincing, I have to say.
Nothing new there Badger
Can’t see any of our back 4 being at a sky 4 team next summer after tonight’s performance! 🙂
Agree with that thought Wilkins would tighten them up but players arnt good enough. Need a new rht bk and ch desperately this is wolves what will happen when we play Utd could be a crickets score
Can’t see any of the sky 4 wanting any of our defenders after Utd have beat us by a “cricket score” 🙂
2-1 kozak
2-1, Kozak again, after a nice ball from Robinson.
Our forward play definitely looks convincing, although a Wolves mate doesn’t rate their defence.
Anyone else think the players look trimmer, some serious fitness work been done
Agreed Jimbo.
Gabby’s lost a bit of his bulk too.
We seem surprisingly pretty sharp and you can see how our game is going to be played, fast and furious, compared to some of the crap we saw in previous seasons.
