Aston Villa VS Man City preview

Football is once again upon us, and this week it is in our yard. Will we prevail?

P W D L GD PTS
3 Man City 6 2 2 1 +5 11
6 Aston Villa 6 3 1 2 -3 10

Let’s start this by saying that we have won the same amount of games as Man City, but they have lost one less leaving us trailing by a point.

Man City have not got off to the season the way they had hoped however, they have only lost one game so far this season and I would be biased if I thought this game was going to be their second but.. we do have a not so secret weapon returning and this gives us an edge.
Christian Benteke is set to play against Man City today giving the lions the roar they have been missing all season. Since joining us in 2012, he has become a fan favourite scoring 29 league goals before suffering a long term injury putting him out of the world cup and Villa fans into hysteria and now the beast returns.

Man City have conceded 7 goals, the same as Villa, the only difference being is that they scored more the other end and have the capabilities to do that game in, game out. Man City have the ability to not rely on an individual to score all their goals, this makes them a dangerous threat and is going to require a good team effort to shut their play down and squash any signs of attack. It is doable feat and Stoke have proved this already with their 1 goal victory, can we follow this up? The answer is – IT DEPENDS ON THE STRATERGY.

Will we sit back or attack?

I see Richardson being dropped for Benteke who will take the forward roll with gabby on the left and Wiemann on the right. This puts Cleverly on the right, Delph on the left and Westwood in the centre. If it so happens to be like this then I see us bringing the game to Man City and life to the park. Our team works best with Benteke in it as he is the natural goal scorer and with his return, it will give the team a chance to prove that it does have an attacking side to it, not just counter attacking.

I’m seeing a draw written all over this game, and I think it will be a mighty entertaining one. For those who are going, i’ll see you at the game!

City haven’t lost a game? Didn’t they lose to Stoke at the Etihad?

Tempted not to forecast as I seem to be a bit of a jinx in that department!! Hoping for a win, expecting a defeat, so I’ll go for the draw 1-1. Can’t see us scoring more than 1; Benteke or no Benteke. Reckon Benteke will start form the bench and PL will see hwo the game develops. Would like to see Grealish start today instead of Richardson. If Tekkers does come on we shouldn’t expect too much too soon. He’s just coming back from a bad injury AND he missed a lot of last season as well. UTV

so hard to call this game, but iam so much looking forwards. thanks mr cheese for posting our preview.

will benteke be in the starting line~up or will he just make a small appearance, so much depends on this slight issue, without him its gonna be a struggle, man city will see this game, as 3 points nailed on. without benteke and vlaar its 0, 2 finally with benteke playing we can’t expect much more, he bond to need games and not likely 2 peak anytime soon, so even with benteke its not gonna change the outcome 🙁 2 nil city 🙁

sliver lining international break, benteke will get some more fitness and be more ready for the everton game

Villa team v Man City: Guzan, Hutton, Senderos, Baker, Cissokho, Delph, Westwood, Cleverley, Richardson, N’Zogbia, Agbonlahor.

Aston Villa subs: Given, Bacuna, Clark, Sanchez, Bent, Weimann, Benteke.

N’Zogbia and Richardson? I guess he does want our wingers to be completely useless today. Should’ve just played Bacuna and Sanchez and not have wingers.

I agree that we should play him from bench. Depending on score I’d put him on after 60-70 mins and give him a run out

My guess is sit back for 75 minutes, he comes on and Lambert hopes for a counter-attacking goal.

i av lots of symphony for weimann. hes never in his desired position. out wide hes neither winger or midfielder, but works his ass off hes another that could do well off the bench.

this team picked 2day may struggle, i see the city coming and coming and unless villa pass well they av no out balls, on the other hand if they pass well like back at anfield other year were they played a diamond

Tough game today and I can’t see a win, so hoping for a draw.

    I’ll go 1-1, but expect more like 1-4 🙁

I’ll post my simple thoughts after the game.

Hardly parked the bus, does seem like they’re pushing us back a bit though.

City have the talent though to score when they’re playing poor.

    Weimanns has no strength whatsoever…

    And calls himself a striker……

We’re lucky they’ve stuck Silva out wide where he’s less influential and hates defending.

    Hope Grealish gets a game.

    Cmon boys!!!

    alamo me thinks
the system we are TRYING to play u need 2 pass well and they aren’t even when not pressed , we are pressing high and good just need 2 pass the bloody ball

Nath, very poor passing in the final third by Villa but we seem so static that we are not finding any space unlike Silva who seems like a ghost. N’Zog has looked poor to me and needs to get into the game – PL should put Grealish on instead.

yeah nzog one dangerous run and nothing else 🙁 senderos cissokho even cleverley all giving ball away without any pressure from city its worrying me, other than that its going to plan, we seem 2 help opposition by conceding possession cheaply

also another point well made hitchen 60 grealish would suit this game, tight in middle of the park he would keep and use the ball far better than nzog or richardson

Delph is so annoying to watch. He never looks up, he rarely looks for a better positioned player, he just runs with the ball, hopes to beat a man and takes an awful shot.

I think the reason it seems n zog n Delph don’t look up is because they know only Weimann is there making a terrible diagonal across…..so easy for City to pick him up. He needs to sit n watch Aguero DVDs all week. His movement is awesome

Not changing the formation but it is probably the most positive of changes from Lambert to bring on Bacuna and Grealish.
