Benteke signs new contract!

So Christian Benteke has withdrawn his transfer request and signed a new four year contract.

I’m personally happy as Larry about this, but I wonder what’s gone on?

Has Spurs’ interest in Soldado made him realise what a major mistake he would have been making?

If he bangs a few goals in, I’ll happily welcome him back to the fold, even though he seems a mercenary type;

Christian Benteke said: “I spoke with the Manager when I returned to training and we had a good talk. I am very happy to be back here in Birmingham and at Aston Villa, and to sign a new contract. This is a great Club and it has given me a lot. Now I have to give back to my teammates and the fans who have always been right behind me. The end of last season was very good and the lads were very strong. It was not easy but we came through it and the confidence is high. So everyone knows what we have to do now – be better. I need to be better than last year.”

If he gets back to it, surely it can only be a good thing to keep us moving in the right direction

Think its great news, he will want to improve so he is picked for the World Cup next year. If he plays well and has a great World Cup, the bigger teams will, with more money, willwanthim and we will make even more profit out of him. Win win situation!

great news and respect to Lambert for whatever he said to him.
also I think it says a hell of a lot about the team spirit at villa, no doubt seeing the lads again also had its effect on him.
I also believe this will set a president for players not to try and take us for an easy ride, are the days of being a ‘selling club’ to be banished?
    happy villan today 🙂

This is great news. I said on a previous post I couldn’t wait for him to fuck off and never want to see him in a Villa shirt again. I take my hat off to what he’s done and take back everything I said about wanting him to fuck off. He’s clearly grown up and Lambert has obviously told him the only way he’ll get fans back onside is by retracting his transfer request and signing a new deal. Fair play to the bloke and lets not forget that another 6 have also signed extensions this summer. With the 6 new signings as well I’m as optimistic now as I’ve been for a long long time, I can’t wait for the season to start.

Don’t them Spuds look clowns now and with Man U lining up a £60m bid for Bale they look like a team on the way down. I think CB’s made a wise decision.

Well said B6. A lot of people wanted him gone out of disappointment, frustration and to end the saga and give us time to replace. Only said in the best interest if the villa.

Like naughtius said, shows the team spirit is very high and as I’ve said before that lambert has his master plan and won’t want anything getting in the way

This is great news, I can see Aston Villa really progressing now.

Let’s hope that Lerner can now extend Lambert’s contract.

Real credit goes to Lambert here. At long last we are NOT such a selling club as we once were. Great feeling about tekkers staying. Lowton re-signed as well today. I’m laughing my cock off at ‘big club Spurs’. Its so fucking funny. When Manure sign Bale we will be passing them on the way up. They are a similar situation as we were after MON and their only sellable asset is Bale who will leave IMO. they now have massive wage earners that they cant shift Like Adebeyor, Parker, Defoe, Huddlestone etc. cant wait to go and wind them up on their blogs!

It is a great turnaround…….but not putting a negative spin on it……Benteke and his agent must have surely realised that Villa were in the driving seat on this one all the way…….without a decent bid, CB would be put out to graze with Bent et al…..and with the World Cup on the horizon that would be a huge gamble on his selection……plus his reputation would take a downward spiral….

If CB thought it about transfer after his original contract,mi could kind of agree with you, but sign an extension, now that’s some kin of talking.

By the way your were not negative, just thought processing.

Agree Eddie once it was clear levy wouldn’t cough up and no one else was in for him he had no choice but to sign for us especially in World Cup year. I just hope there is no release clause put in or he will go easily next year. Having said that it shows good intent from villa that we won’t be bullied and have the financial muscle and ambition to compete when we have to

Absolutely splendid news! Well done to Lambert and the club for sticking to their guns and to Benteke for realizing his mistakes. Nevertheless, I hold no ill feeling to the transfer request. He still just a kid, but I look forward to him pushing on from last season.
