Benteke to Liverpool? You’re having a laugh, int ya?

Cor blimey govner and all that.
Hmm, enough of the Tim Sherwood impressions I think.

Well, it had to come didn’t it?
Christian Benteke’s gone on a scoring run that makes him currently amongst the best strikers in Europe and the lazy Journos are coming out with the same old poorly researched, no quotes to back it up, load of old tripe.

If you haven’t heard/read, the Mail are saying that Rodgers is chasing Benteke in a £30 million swoop that might see Ricky lambert coming the other way;

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3055641/Real-Madrid-star-Gareth-Bale-wanted-Premier-League-trio-Manchester-United-Chelsea-Manchester-City-75m-deal.html

To be honest, it was actually the Metro that ran the story first, but seeing as they’re practically the same thing and the Mail has us listed in their top five Villa websites, we like to link to them occasionally.

Anyway, this is just rubbish on a few levels in my opinion.
First, we’re under no pressure to sell the player, who would be a major loss to a club that is looking to be on the way back up from it’s current lows.

Second, I don’t believe for one minute that Sherwood would sanction it, regardless of what he’s said previously.

Third, £30 million isn’t enough, in my opinion. Who are we going to get to replace him? A couple of up and coming strikers, in the hope that one of them fires straight from the off?
That would be incredibly risky.
Perhaps lambert is the answer? (which is my fourth point).
No way, again in my opinion. How long does he have left in the game? And can we really see him being a part of a longer term future that it seems Sherwood would be looking at?

And finally my fifth point.
If you read all the stuff that has been written about Liverpool after we beat them in the cup, you might be led to believe that Rodgers doesn’t even have a say on the players that come into the club and it’s apparently all decided by a panel. So it’s not up to him anyway.

Of course, there are another couple of options, in that Benteke (or more likely his money grabbing agent) might try to force a move.
Or worse still, if we get taken over by some cheapskate owners, they might want to get a quick return on their investment (that rumoured £150 million is starting to look ridiculously cheap in this sense).
I can’t see that happening though. What better way is there to fall out with the fans as soon as you arrive? (unless they engineer it to look like they had no choice).
No, if we do get new owners, I can’t see him leaving at all.

And anyway it won’t be Liverpool if he does go, even if they do pay the big bucks wages.

Benteke is tailor-made for the Arsenal that he supposedly likes in my opinion.
Or an even bigger club.

I think Benteke will stay. Sherwood has money to spend in the summer otherwise he would not of taking the job. I can see major changes in the team next season when we are in the prem. Look forward to the game on sat, l believe we will take all 3pts we are playing great stuff. Come on the Villa

No MATE according to Ooha Sherwood was desperate for work so in the interview he wouldn’t of mentioned a transfer budget as he’d be just grateful for the job.

I won’t go as far to say that Benteke will go this summer and I really hope he never leaves if continues to play like this, but honestly, unless we make massive strides next season in terms of league finish, and it seems the cash is being flashed by new owners Benteke is almost certainly going to leave us. I would say within 2 years
I don’t like to admit it but we would be bucking 15 years of trends to keep him as a side outside the top4, even the top 4 lose their players Suarez, Ronaldo, Nasri, Fabregas, Tevez, Modric, Bébé? … (k maybe not him)

The other side is…. even if we stay up ….and win the Cup …..and I insert another rhyming word like pup, He has already handed in a transfer request once, and his Agent is of the lippy and ambitious variety, he wants his big money transfer and accordingly his 10-20% cut of that,

but who knows, maybe we won’t give a shite about Benteke in 2 years?
maybe we will want to sell him, Maybe we will get as super lucky and hit the jackpot of a lifetime like my missus when she met me at the narcissist seminar?

who knows besides me and my lesser younger half brother .. God.

Basically what I am trying to say is maybe the owners will have as much cash as I do charisma and cocaine is a great …

Didn’t the scousers want 50 mil for that heap of SHITE Torres?????their offering a measley 30 for someone like tekkers hold out for 60 at least better still price him out the market.I can’t see a deal falling through due to selling our best player, the 100 mil a year TV money is the lure like Lerner Chuck in just enough for prem survival.

I’m surprised Benteke is still here. I mean according to the bloke who is always right on here hasn’t he been leaving in the previous 6 transfer windows?

      Personally don’t think he’ll go. I think he’ll sign a new contract.

Papers selling papers is all. And the fact we’re linked to Andone and Bamford does help their cause we’re looking to replace him instead of doing what we’re actually doing, bringing in another striker.

Only 1 line of my last post went through!

What I said was I saw the original interview quoted in the article. As I said on here previously Benteke was talking as if he was really happy and reading between the lines he seemed more likely to EXTEND his contract rather than leave. There really is no need to worry about the player himself IMO. What does worry me is that he will probably be sold by Lerner. However, as Badger stated, we really dont need to sell financially! So if he does go its the club kicking us in the bollox yet again!

Hoping that a new owner turns up and injects some much needed cash and energy.

If that’s on the horizon then I’d guess that Benteke might want to stay. Certainly hope so.

Also hope he gets his shooting boots on for Sauturday. 3 more points will make me feel a whole lot better!

Watching the game. It’s basically Sterling being selfish, Ibe being selfish with maybe a decent ball or two, Balotelli having no supply and Coutinho trying his usual long range shots.

Largely why I don’t fear them taking Benteke. They make themselves look awful. Yes a quality striker would do wonders but they need far more than that.

Hull beating Liverpool. It’s getting very tight at the bottom. At this rate we might need three wins to be safe.

We definitely need to win at least two of our last four games. Most of the teams around us seem to be putting a run together. I think we’ve got the ability and belief to beat all four of the teams we’ve got coming up. Let’s just hope lady luck shines on us!

P.S. If Sunderland and Leicester win their games in hand and Hull see out the victory today, we could very well find ourselves back in the bottom 3! That would be a massive psychological blow.

MATE I think we’re lucky they allowed the initials FA to stay,it proves how easy the FA can be bought & how money now dominates our sport the identity of the cup is lost imo.its simply a fucking disgrace, now we know the recipients of the bulk of the additional cup final tickets watch for the empty seats it won’t be hard to miss.

Giddy…too true mate the cup has been devalued ……yet again! I noticed at the Semi Final against the bin dippers that ‘the corporate seats’ were almost empty 20 minutes after the 2nd half started. Why the fuck do they get tickets? Its also very sad (and wrong) that some of our amazing away fans wont get tickets…..disgraceful IMO.

On R5L they were criticising the modern fan yesterday. They were rightfully taking the p*ss out of the two team scarves that are favoured by the tourist footballer and how it’s killing the atmosphere. Clubs market themselves differently now, but look how the Italian league has screwed up. Apparently even the ‘big’ teams stadiums are only ever half full, and they’ve killed long term interest in the game. You can already see it happening here. On Sky at the weekend they laughed at the way clubs count the attendance figures, especially at Newcastle where it was half empty but the gate numbers were a virtual sell out. Did you hear about the bloke who asked Collymore to keep his voice down during his commentary last week!!!! Lol!!!
Mark my words, during our lifetime, we will see TV superimpose crowds onto empty terraces like they already do with advertising…

Bum Bum I was chatting to some of the lads at work with young sons say in the 8 to 14 year old age group and discussing their interest in watching football live or otherwise and they said the same to a man – the kids had little to none, it was all about playing fifa on line with their mates.
Now I don’t know if that is something that applies to the fella’s I work with kids or it can be applied to all in that age bracket but if it does then where’s it leave football in 10-15 years time?

I watched Bayern v Dortmund last night. The stadium was rocking. OK there is a big rivalry there, and it was a cup SF, but every time I see German football it looks the same. Cheap tickets, standing areas, exciting football (Ok it’s a one horse league). Fans having a share/say in the running of the club. They are definitely on the right lines.
