Bristol City 1 – 1 Villa: Not good enough.

I watched this, but actually managed to miss our goal and the highlights of it, somehow; go figure.

Either way, it doesn’t matter.
Why we started with Samba in a back three against a well known lively Bristol attack, is totally beyond me and you have to call Bruce’s tatcics out here.

The disaster was corrected after about 20 mins, but it put us on the back foot from the off.

The simple question is, who looked the better side today?
It wasn’t us, by a long chalk, in my opinion and while we came back into it later on, we never deserved to win that game.

And While Bristol won’t be challenging for the league title, on that showing, they’ll finish higher than us.

And that isn’t good enough!

They had shape and more importantly, a plan.
Whereas we seemed devoid.

Big shout out to those who were there, as they deserved a lot better than what they got.

Never had time to post when we scored 4 in consecutive games. Now it’s almost instant! Again guys, you work it out!

And BTW, we didn’t lose as it would have appeared even quicker if we had!…..reverse psychology at its worst ……shame on you!

JV – both sides had the same number of shots – Bristol had a massive one more on target 5 to Villa’s 4.

      Hope that answers your question.

Was an even game, 1 point is better than 0.. previously going behind was game over but we seem to have some fight in us now. Its certaintly not all doom and gloom! Were not going to win every game so get over it.

We are already too far behind for top 2 with just ( games gone which is a disgrace in my book. Draws are useless for us

From the mouth of Bruce after the game…

“If you approach the Championship like we’ve just witnessed tonight, sort of half-hearted, and not really showing the energy or the desire to make a fist of it, no matter what sort of player you think you are then you’re not going to achieve anything in the Championship.”

“We’ve got to make sure we improve, especially away from home, but I think on the night the draw was probably a fair result. At least there’s improvement from the previous two, which wouldn’t be difficult, if I’m being very honest. They stuck at it and there was a response from when we went behind, from an awful goal.”

It was also nice to hear him praise the hardest workers of the squad…

“I’ve brought in some experience and the young ones are the ones who have particularly impressed me and they’re going to be the future and I think the way forward.”

A draw away to Bristol is a good result, sorry to say people we need to lower or expectations, we will not get promoted any season soon, so expect mid to higher table with a few exciting cup games….. We just aint the big club we think we are anymore !!!

      Agreed Saddened.

As it happens their goal should have been disallowed for offside. If you watch the replay their cf was standing in an offside position in centre of goal and interfered with play which allowed the ball to run to Patterdon who scored – and no I’m not making excuses just calling it as I see it.

where do I start lol well first I am upset we didn’t win I lost a tenner on a treble villa hull and Cardiff. but that’s life. change in formation its the manager decision, he thought he needed to change and it didn’t work he changed it back. last season Chelsea walked the premier with that formation. so its not the formation fault it didn’t work for villa.

of our game, I thought it was a good even battle, Bristol started better but villa were the better team after the break. should we be winning these games ?? no team has the divine right. we signed a decent player in Snodgrass. our squad built under bruce is sadly better than our squads under last few managers.

our away form is a concern. we have a break now, which will be welcomed more work for the players remaining and maybe some injuries will clear up. I still think we will be top two come the end. once we start winning, we are going to be hard to stop. its just a matter of how long it takes to start. I did see villa start to play with a swagger second half, when they where going for the win. finally Bristol are a decent championship team. I think they will beat most at their ground.

      Good balanced post Nath.

We lost 3 – 1 here last season and were awful after going 1-0 up after 5 minutes.

The Championship is aggressive football played at a 100 miles an hour. It took Jedinak time to adjust and it will take Whelan et al time as well. I thought second half we played pretty well.

It’s all very well being disappointed at not winning but I do think there are some over reactions (negative) to last night’s game.

There is so much negativity that any positives such as Davis who lead the line well and held the ball up nicely and the fact that we had three 19 year olds playing (when Bree came on) – something fans have been asking for – are being completely ignored.

It’s all very well and too easy to criticise Bruce and the team and completely ignore any other aspects of the game because we didn’t win.

So if you think I’m over optimistic – well so be it – rather a happy clapper than be a miserable moaner.

Morning lads, well I travelled up from Cornwall as the match was being played and just read the posts, thanks Villaaway for being able to see both goals and have to say great goal from us but a scrappy goal off them, have to agree with Badger its not good enough and why did he play Samba knowingly he’s unproven and clumsy in challenges in a defensive game, ok a point away but on that showing not Championship progressive winning team, I think Bruce is trying to be fair to his players and not understanding who can and who cannot give 100% in the game, we need to take every game to them, not to us we are a team with skill in players but some are not saying to themselves I’m better than that player and showing he is. Undecided if we will go up yet.

I think that’s the biggest challenge that I’ve faced in my managerial career really.
The club, after getting relegated, had a horrible atmosphere to it and all of the lads who were in the club basically lost half their salary.
So as soon as I walked into the club there were a lot of miserable faces for a start.
And if you approach the Championship sort of half hearted and not really showing the energy or the desire to make a fist of it, no matter what a good player you think you are you’re not going to be able to achieve anything in the Championship.
So I think it was important that most of those players moved on and we moved to a new era if you like.
I’ve bought in some experience and the young ones are the ones who have particularly impressed me just lately. That’s going to be the future and the way forward.
That’s a comment made from our Bruce and hes well aware of the needs.

I’ve stalled on posting to think it over, and while it’s not the started any of us wanted we’d be very naive to say there hasn’t been an improvement since the Reading game. We’ve just picked up a point away from home against a side who crushed us 3-1 there last year and have only lost one home game since February. It was an improvement, and that’s all we should be looking for.

Like I said however it’s still not the start any of us wanted, Bruce has said himself we are 5 points off where we need to be. It makes next month massive for our season really, we play the likes of Bolton and Brentford at home and travel to Burton and Barnsley. Quite simply need 4 wins from those 4, what hurt us last year was it took us so long to get that second win, hopefully we’ll have it this time first game back from the international break.

As for the team, well we have the likes of Kodjia, Jedinak and Snodgrass to come in.. so given the way we have been holding up without them I am quietly confident with a fully fit squad we will truly hit our stride..

On a side note, our midfield are finally scoring goals!! How long have we needed that? Wasn’t the closest to Kodjia last year Grealish with 4 goals? Well Hourihane already has that.. don’t lose the faith brothers! Still all to play for, reckon next month will be very telling!!

    JV…. Gone very quiet mate!

So lets just try and work you out!

    1. Your ‘positive’ about a team you dont claim to support (Bournemouth) although they LOST at HOME against 10 men!

    2. Your ‘negative’ about a team you CLAIM to support who got a well deserved point AWAY from home despite having a goal given against them that SHOULDN’T have been given!

It seems that you’ve fallen into your ‘OWN TRAP’, very much like Badger and Ohaah!
