Bristol City 1 – 1 Villa: Not good enough.

I watched this, but actually managed to miss our goal and the highlights of it, somehow; go figure.

Either way, it doesn’t matter.
Why we started with Samba in a back three against a well known lively Bristol attack, is totally beyond me and you have to call Bruce’s tatcics out here.

The disaster was corrected after about 20 mins, but it put us on the back foot from the off.

The simple question is, who looked the better side today?
It wasn’t us, by a long chalk, in my opinion and while we came back into it later on, we never deserved to win that game.

And While Bristol won’t be challenging for the league title, on that showing, they’ll finish higher than us.

And that isn’t good enough!

They had shape and more importantly, a plan.
Whereas we seemed devoid.

Big shout out to those who were there, as they deserved a lot better than what they got.

Just read the following about Snodgrass move – alledgedly from reliable source.

Hammers paying 30% of his salary said to be Β£60k per week
Villa have agreed fee to make the move permanent subject to achieving certain things being met in the loan agreement.

The particulars of the loan agreement not stated but could be subject to Villa achieving promotion.

either get your eyes tested or read rules of the game the lad scored for bristol was never offside, and player that was didnt play the ball, terrys arm played more of the ball last night than gabby on a good day
as for a great point at bristol city if we had set up right using right players not waiting to half time to make player change and had played well had shots on target not away wide,it would been a good point but then we have already lost 2 away matches with a squad the costly ever made up in championship with biggest wage bill, snodgrass is on 2m ,with the most successful manager at this level,
we should be taking game to every side not sitting back defending hoping to get a goal,

First off JV it was me that posted that not Langford – so get your facts right – and even though I wear glasses my eyesight is perfectly OK thank you.

Second the c.f. was standing in an offside position in the centre of the goal and as the ball can across he attempted to play the ball (which is what I originally posted) as such he interfered with play and the goal should have been disallowed but then you always know better than anyone else.

Factually (do you actually understand that word?) We had only one shot less than City on target .

What is your point on Snodgrass – I don’t think he’s actually played for us yet?

My final word on this – a player is offside if

            Interfering with an opponent
“preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or challenging an opponent for the ball”[5]:108

That is clearly the case in the City goal as their CF prevented the defender from clearing the ball by challenging from an offside position.

Does anyone think all is well? We are on 5 points from 5 games and 10 points off top position. We have been garbage for much of that. We should be up there with Cardiff.
Millwall put the Norwich result in perspective and Wigan are a mediocre lower league side. When we start to play attacking football consistently I will be a Bruce fan. Right now I think he is pants.
It’s ok being optimistic as long as it’s grounded in something other than blindness.

the next four games are make or break for our season. I think we should all remain calm and wait to see the outcome of these 4 games. we have had a bad start we only have 5 points, which is poor. but we are not cut adrift by any means. Cardiff and Ipswich will fall and other contenders are also having a slow start.

I think the positive posters are just seeing signs that theirs a team capable of challenging for this league in our squad. then the negatives believe we wont amass to nothing again. well we don’t have long to wait to gloat either way. 4 more games and the table will take shape, to who will be up there and who will be struggling.

I think passions are high and if we are all villa fans, then we should cut each other some slack. because their are enough knockers of our club without us assisting them.

    On a lighter note!

Does anyone think that we will sign/loan anymore players before the window closes on Thursday?

We didn’t get Gallagher who we wanted (allegedly)! Are we therefore in for a striker? If so, who? Crouch anyone?, he’s only the bench again today! Or would you rather just stick with Hogan and Davis until Kodjia is back? I hate the prospect of Gabby coming back into the starting 11 should Hogan and/or Davis get injured! what do you think? By the way, where’s RHM disappeared to again? Injured again? I would love Crouch on a 12 month deal personally. With Elmo and Snodgrass on the flanks I’m sure Crouch would be a great addition! And do we need another LB.

Absolutely not, why obstruct Davis’ first team run? He should be playing every game he can, what’s the point of bringing in the youngsters only to drop them again? Also Hogan is better suited to the game we want to play, sick of target men and route one football.

If you bother to read my posts you would see that I post neither positive nor negative but try to put forward a balanced view.

JV accused me of being ‘happy with a point (at Bristol)’ but nowhere have I said that. I felt Badger had over reacted with ‘shocking’ but noted that I was disappointed with the draw.

I stand by my view that their goal was offside (but also said I was not offering thus as an excuse) – if JV or anyone else for that matter disagrees – fine BUT why call me a bellend?

Hitch….agreed mate! Your posts always come accross as ‘balanced’ as far as I’m concerned! And yes, I probably look too positive to some! But I did slate the team for the displays in both Cardiff and Reading…..my criticism is generally aimed at lack of effort/desire etc. We have had a good 7’days IMO 2 wins, a draw and 9 goals scored! There are many, many clubs that would love to replicate that! But alas, thats not good enough for some who cant wait to criticise or be negative to the point where it borders on the ludicrous!

That’s a fair point BWS but trying to compare games is always tricky. As far as I’m concerned we won 4-2 on the back of two rubbish away performances and short of our best forward so that’s OK

Criticsm of the performance would be acceptable if we had lost the game! As I’ve posted before there is room for improvement – particularly the lack of clean sheets.

However, I’m prepared to cut Terry / Whelan some slack. Remember the criticsm of Jedinak over his first half dozen games – and his influence after that?

Look I have no particular brief for Bruce but I hope he succeeds because the one thing we need desperately is some continuity and stability.

I think them 4 games the doc means in sept are major. without rubbishing other teams we play. I think we are all looking at them and thinking nothing less than12 points. don’t know about sb in trouble, depends on how ruthless the doc is and how bad we do in the next 4. but if we don’t collect max then the rest of the season is uphill

I think we need one more players and its a forward type. somebody who can hold the ball up like davis. i am not endorsing long ball game. a player that can link up midfield and attack, we lack this type. Hogan can but its not his strongest asset. gabby can’t McCormack off with a decent off. kodjia can but he likes to get behind defences not linking up play

I thought Gallagher would be perfect for us. don’t think crouch is mobile like bws says. It may depend on reducing squad now and making do with davis until kodjia returns
