Fabian Delph is currently Aston Villa’s best player in the League and with his contract expiring at the end of next season, there has been a lot of talk in regards to a new contract for Delph. Paul Lambert has said that the young Englishmen will have to wait. Lambert doesn’t want to ‘disturb’ Delph and want him to maintain his form. Lambert is happy with Delph’s current form but wants him to focus on this season rather than a new contract.
“He still has a good bit to go on his current contract. That will be something we look at down the line a little bit.
“At the moment he is enjoying his football and playing really well. There is no need for me to disrupt that.
“He is competing well against every opponent but he has to maintain that.” – Paul Lambert
I reckon Lambert is worried that a new contract may affect Delph’s form, it has already happened with Lowton, Westwood and Weimann. Making Delph wait, will do more good than harm. Obviously if Villa are getting enquires for Delph from other clubs. I strongly advise the Villa board to offer him a new deal before his head is turned.
Good. We rushed out giving new contracts to Westwood, Lowton and Weimann and all 3 have been dire this season. Although tbf, it seems to have had the opposite impact on Clark, I guess the signing of Okore gave him a necessary kick up the backside.
Delph has been playing well but it’s only a few games, he also needs more competition in the middle as it’s not hard to stand out when your alongside poor players like KEA and westwood.
Baker hasn’t been that bad either.
To be fair, I doubt Delph will get any sort of competition anytime soon. Unless Lambert buys a CAM and another midfielder in January. His spot in the starting 11 is almost guaranteed. Besides, right now, I’d have Delph playing over all the other midfielders.
Well the way Delf is playing lately he’s ear marked for suspension, 4 yellow cards up till now,
I’m not saying he’s brilliant at the minute but trying to hard to please, that’s getting him into trouble, I think out of what we have Delf is best of the bunch and we are still struggling. I cannot wait for tomorrow my eyes are on that team performance on the day, I only hope its a good game for Lambert’s sake.
They (everton) usually have the fullbacks bombing forward and if Martinez sticks to that we could /should get something out of it, possibly all 3 points but if he’s done his homework (which I imagine he has) he’ll leave them sitting deep (as Chelsea & Liverpool) and that case we’ll be f**ked cause of Lambert’s lack of a plan B.
I’m not worried about suspensions. Delph is playing incredibly well, and is our best player right now.
He’s playing well and I don’t want him to stop what he’s doing
