Fag packet sums and where will we finish POLL

I’m off on my holiday tomorrow, so I thought I should perhaps add something, just in case the internet is totally abysmal where I’m going (Turkey, fwiw.)

So where are we at?

The good doctor has been doing his usual thing, in tweeting cryptic stuff, with an earlier one saying “follow your Heart”.
I can only see that as a reference that means we’re after Joe Hart, which would be a mega-signing, perhaps even better than John Terry.
I’ve previously said I don’t believe he’s a fantastic goalie, but he’s pretty good and would be more than good enough in the championship, in my opinion.
But it’s more about the intent and if we were to get him, it would be massive.
Consider he’s supposed to be on about £125k a week. However you rate him personally, this is a serious top class rated player.

And then Xia tweeted another emoji job that suggests to me that we’ve done the sums and the deal is a goer.

So much for the supposed £1 million spend we’re allowed.
Although, in fairness, it would seem we definitely have to sell to buy, because of FFP.
That shouldn’t be a problem though, as Amavi is almost certainly a goner, as it stands.
Veretout is touted to maybe remain, but I’d say he’s a cert to leave too, especially if you see things the way I have, in that he refused to play for us.

Let’s do a few very rough sums.
Terry, at let’s say £80k a week = £4 mill
Hart, at let’s say half his wage for one year, £62.5k a week = £3.125 mill

Which should still leave a few million to spend.

Whelan, £750k and £35k a week(?) on a two year contract = £4 millish(!)

Still leaves room for manoeuvre, I’d suggest.
So at least one or two more coming in.

But I don’t see any more attackers coming in.
And sadly, I don’t see any top rated Mids coming in either.

I’d expect some middling type players, who we won’t be massively impressed with, but maybe just more backup, that improves us overall.
As is the Bruce way.
Solid, but quite boring.
But probably quite sensible.

Then again Xia seems to like springing surprises, so you never know.

Just for a laugh and I know we haven’t really done any business yet, but I’m interested in how we see our chances, given that we’re near favourites to get promoted. Hence the poll.

Hitch, its the Sun mate hopefully when it rains he’ll be ok. I met Gordon Cowan last night for a chat Hitch , chatting about Villa and what he thinks, reckons Bruce will do it and that Bruce stands no nonsense at the club, asked him why he moved he intermated things not well upstairs. God knows what. My grandson met him scoring 56 goals for his under 10s team very proud grandad.

Looking around some of the press reports you get the impression that disharmony within clubs is on the rise – couldn’t be anything to do with the stupid amounts of money now within the game – no of course not, how silly of me 🙂

Can’t believe Utd are about to pay nearly a £100m for Lukaku and give them Rooney on a free. Great deal for Everton imo. Lukaku and Benteke similar in a way he’s a good player but not world class. Utd have lost the plot

wolves have signed a wonderful holding foreigner i haven’t heard off. but i don’t play these managerial games. 15 mill plus sounds a awful a lot for a player that hasn’t played in england or championship for real. will he be able to score create and defend or will wolves be buying another 10 players who can help him.

i will report wolves for breaking fair play bull shit rules. trying to buy promotion

others might have forgotten andrew, but i recall you were a firm lerner supporter. this might be why you are a villa basher now. lerner might have lost a fortune on the club. if only he had asked you to advise him, who knows we might have won the world cup.

and you wanted a up and coming foreign manager. JUST like gardes. what was your excuse. he wasnt supported by owner…… hypocrite. you change your excuses as the wind changes. i would respect you if you posted your own ideas

The only game I play is Fifa. You can call me a nerdy gamer, but unlike you, I actually watch football, outside of Villa, and outside of England.

I was at once a Lerner supporter. Very much until he signed McLeish. Then I backed his take under Lambert his first season, and then was 100% against him Lambert’s last season, under Sherwood and how they screwed Garde. You seem far more hung up on Garde than I do. Yeah it sucked he was sacked, yeah it sucked how badly he got screwed by Lerner, Fox and most of the playing staff. But clearly I’m not half as upset as you are over me liking Garde.

Not sure you know what the word Hypocrite means. Because I’m far from one. I’ve also never changed my excuse, but then again going by your reading comprehension, you have a bad tendency to make things up. I’m also not bothered by you not respecting me, but I have my own opinions and ideas. I’ve never once been one to follow on here. And trust me, I’ve been on here for a lot longer than 99% of the commenters on here. I’ve never been favored. But you seem to have, pandering to the masses. Sucking up to them.

Journalists on the tabloids don’t have to think two moves forwards, they just have to spot a pattern and let it suggest a link.

So, since Villa signed one veteran PL player we must be in the market for all the old farts left. Defoe having gone to the beach, the next obvious oldie is Peter Crouch. A former Villan so rush into print! Actually I really like ‘Rodney’, and to be fair to Villa – the player we sold wasn’t nearly s good as the player he became. Nor could you see the improvement coming. But he is now very committed to Stoke, will probably be their assistant manager and if Sparky gets poached Rodney may well step in.

Villa would need two wingers who can hit a target beyond the far post to make use of Crouch, that is one of our persistent failings we have yet to cure.

True OLL. Fwiw I think Everton have come out of Lukaka situation laughing all the way to the bank. Rooney is still a better all round player than lukaku even at 31. And could still have 3-4 good years in him if he looks after himself. And to get nearly a £100m for him is like winning the lottery. Utd are mugs they’ve gone from RVN and Ronaldo to kukaku and Ashley Young loll. Yes he will get them 25 plus goals but he won’t score when it really matters if that makes sense.

he is good at wing back. he is better than most at accurate crossing. but i think its being able to play 352 formation that the reason for this transfer. bruce tried that formation a few times last year. but his fullback or wing back on them days just were unable to understand what he wanted from them.

i find it strange that we have 4 right backs with elmohamady, hutton says he wont leave. bree is the one i think could play that position. at barnsley he showed himself to be quite adept at going forward with purpose. de laet i am not sure about this player. most would think 4 players for one position is too much surely 2 would have to move on

Hope so. TBH do we really need anymore players. We have a squad that should on paper be able to finish top 6. My only worry is lack of goals. If you take Kodja out the equation there is no one else that can score really. Certainly not on a regular basis so if JK gets injured then what? I can see already that Bruce’s tactic will be like mourinhos that is go one nil up and park the bus. That’s fine if you’ve got a team of world class midfielders and defenders that can keep possession for long periods and can pass the ball about but we havnt. Away from home we need to score at least 2 to win a game one is rarely enough as we always make some cock up on the game. Forget Terry he will hardly play and when he does he will never be as good as he was at Chelsea.
