Friendlies, Johnstone on loan and how transfers work

Just as I suspected, the internet over here in Turkey is abysmal and I’ve hardly been able to read the site, let alone get a stream to watch the friendlies, where it seems the club did a good job in getting them out there.

Good words should be spoken about the results too, of course and while I’ve ever seen friendlies as practise, you can only beat what’s put up against you.
So to score seven and concede none is all good.

My thanks go out to all who posted opinions and they were really helpful to me, given that this was about the only source of news I’ve had.
Please feel free to do the same for tonight’s game!

There’s the news that Johnstone has committed. While we knew it was in the bag via Langford’s source, it’s at least one position finally sorted.
I didn’t realise he’s a free agent next season and have to say I’m surprised we haven’t had to pay a fee.
As has been said, if he proves good for us, we would have to favourites to get him on a free.

The last thing I wanted to mention was a good article in the Independent, that explains how transfers work;

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/transfer-window-premier-league-revealed-how-a-transfer-deal-really-works-a7837031.html

I found it interesting, not only because it backs up my point that clubs make next to nothing from big signing shirt sales, but more because it goes some length to explain how clubs can make the books out to suit themselves to a certain extent.
And that’s only scratching the surface, but my point is you can shuffle the figures, as long as everything adds up in the end.
Of course, there’s also good mention about how us fans only look at the headline figures too.

Here’s hoping we beat the Shrews and I actually manage to get this post out there.
As always, Up the Villa!

Don’t worry about it Badger, I’m pulling mine out as well. The only attacking force we have is Hutton, and Green , im lost at the minute to know what the other’s are up to?. is it me but feel something missing in that forward line.

Yes Bill – Hogan not in the game at all.

On the plus side Veretout looks very handy as a defensive mid and has used the ball quite nicely

      Overall very disappointing

What a shambles just watched last 20 mins still as crap as last year. No coordination in midfield, can’t string two passes together. How we are favourites is beyond me. The only positive is gabby of all people looks quite sharp

2-0 – I’m not really sure what Bruce was trying to achieve with the changes he made other than to demonstrate how poor some of our squad are. Hard to draw many conclusions with Richard and Hutton playing CB and Tshibola in mid field.

To be fair the goals wouldnt have happened if we had proper defence…….but thats all we do have…….still got the Prem mind of passing too slow and in wrong direction. Has everyone forgot how to run with a ball and keep running instead of doubling back if they see one of the other side within 10 yards……footballs shit nowadays…

Agreed Villaaway. Concentrating on pre the changes – passing too measured, needs to be quicker and more incisive – two touches when one would do. Still look as if we are scared of losing rather than going for the win.

Positives – Veretout; definitely looks better than Amavi
Negatives – lots but McCormack in particular was a liability up front.

It’s not fight, it’s not heart, we lack talent. And that’s what happens when you continue to waste money on home grown players. Who just aren’t talented.

Adama Traoré good example of money well spent, his wages alone were probably amounting to three or four academy players. all worth it thou. he played at the nou camp. well not exactly he watched from the dug out. again not exactly he was never in their1st team. but it was money well wasted. we sold him for lots of profits. or not.

well your excuse would be, we didn’t use him correctly if i waited for it. but he was still no better 12months later. his team suffered same fates as we did. a team you said wouldnt come straight back down. i reckon your right we should go out and buy all the cheap foreign waste of spaces from Barcelona b team. going of traore its a sure winner

personally i would have green every day over over paid traore. what are the stats saying on your xbox game lmao.

Nah, Adama was a waste of money, you’re right, and I’d take Green over him any day as well. I’m not against us promoting youth, in fact I’ve been one of the few on here encouraging it when most claim they weren’t good enough. I’m well against wasting money on homegrown players like Richards, like Lescott, like so many.

That’s still not been addressed no Kodja equals no goals. Team has not improved since last year. They can’t hold onto the ball against Shrewsbury ffs. They can’t create anything it’s a disgrace. I don’t care if it is a friendly as it was how we played most of last season. The team are boring to watch

Nothing to do with fitness. It’s to do with no tactics and players not giving a toss. Why we signed Terry is beyond belief as it’s going fwd that needs addressing even though defence is still error prone. We’ve no budget to sign anyone else now. Il never understand how bookies make us favourites we will be lucky to finish midtable with that performance

no tactics apart from counter attcking, sit back defend, even in friendlies no ambition to pass the ball ,attck

JV – it’s pointless trying to draw any conclusions from the game after the 60 minute substitutions but the performance before that had worrying aspects. There was ambition but no end product.

When terry and Chester were there they were passing FORWARD into the other half along the floor to one of our team….better than all that play it around at the back and hump it…….some good balls down the right to Green but no end product……Hutton again was trying to get forward but never knew what to do with it when doing so.Did we have any forwards there today ????

it isn’t about results in pre season. but alarm bells are ringing with their second. richards is not a center back. he not even a decent right back. he is accident in progress and if we continue to play him as leader of a defense then we are screwed. i can’t for the life of me understand playing him their today. hutton playing their must mean we were stretched but surely the 3 young center backs could have played 20 in the pre arranged subs what about samba.

anyways davis again proved he more than ready if called upon. strong and neat lay offs offers plenty of hold up play. which is important to create platforms to attack from.wished i could offer more encouragement but i didnt see much on show. i also missed 1st half but i doubt we played like brazil

Lethargic is the word, no fight or determination, all teams will take note again and hit us with fight and aggression on that showing today, we don’t have will to win again.Bruce cannot excuse that with words in my mind, he must know we still have boys and not men.

    Soft bellies

They may have a lion on their shirts, but today Villa showed their ability to roll over like a kitten to have their tummy tickled.

There is a frailty to Villa that shows up too often, and it was there against Shrewsbury.

Even 12 months on from relegation, they are still getting to grips with facing the underdogs.

Players coming at them with a hunger and determination to upset the odds and show up against the big boys.

Let’s not be too harsh though, Villa looked strong with James Chester and John Terry in defence, indeed when they went off, it all went wrong.

Villa need to have a tenacity in their play, from the goalie’s gloves to the striker’s boots
Never a true word , its time to fight Villa .

That’s just it, that’s always been his style. I don’t get why anyone thinks it’s going to change “if we get our confidence up, our tactics will change”. That’s not nor has ever been how football works. Manager’s have their set styles, Bruce is overly defensive. He’s just the nicer, less conceded version of a British manager.
