Going to have to agree, these are games we should be winning. 17 chances in one game, we have to be taking at least one of em. Begs the question, would Bent have put them away? I’d like to think at least once!! Definately a much better option than Kozac (shockingly slow)and Weimann. Still, another clean sheet and point on the board, but hope benteke comes back soon.

Haha, Not injured, just a bit disappointed. We keep hearing how last season Kozac was Europa League top scorer, but fail to mention he never scored a single league goal. I think he’s more of a 6 yard poacher, but we dont play that sort of football for him to get them chances.

Very boring game but a decent point against a side that will be strong at home. Hull, to be fair are solid at the back.
Kozak didn’t have a great game, but its his 3rd game in the PL, he needs time to settle. Weimann and Westwood were poor, not sure why Westwood was brought back in, he hasn’t warranted a place on this season showings.
Still, we’ve all moaned about our lack of clean sheets, so a 2nd of the season is something positive at least.

Like I said earlier the clean sheet was the main positive. But hull had their main striker out and arnt going to get many goals his season against anyone.

Please stop looking for problems, I’m happy with point, last year we had 9 points a this stage of play, we have to look at the way Hull plays, we have 10 now , none against please look a the positive and not negative, if you need to get people to talk , ho my God Sunderland’s just scored. Agree about the foul throws – unforgivable at this level!

Also agree about Bent – thought it was pretty disgusting the way he was frozen out at Villa. Whatever anyone says, he is a goalscorer and a potential game changer. He would have been a good option for us at the moment, as long as we played to his strengths.

Also agree about Westwood – still think Sylla should be picked over him at the moment.

Considering Lambert has said he is pleased with the amount of attacking options we have, why do we look so toothless without Benteke?

Besides all this, I still don’t think we should be too gutted with a point away to Hull. If we’d have conceded a goal from a corner in the dying minutes, I would have been singing a different tune though!

Spot on bencey you look at the bench and nothing there. I’d have given my right arm to have had bent I reckon he would have scored that chance Kojak missed. Lambert buys a useless striker on last day at £7m ffs who won’t use his left foot been if he had an open goal ffs. Why didn’t he get a creati e midfielder. We are better defensively tbf but at the expense if being toothless up front. How we will manage without cb next year is already worrying me. Lambert is clueless. Btw bacuna did well today so did vlaar and Clark though they were totally shit up front to. 2 mediocre teams going nowhere fast

Defence kept us in the game and got us the point. We had no creativity and no clinical passing or finishing in attack. We once again kept giving the ball away and Westwood looked shit.Kozak didn’t perform and got a cut for his efforts.A point is good away from home but it is inexcusable to waste an opportunity of getting 3 as Hull are poor.Definately a bad day at the office.

Good day allround. 3 games without defeat. A clean sheet…2 on the bounce away from home. 2.5 games without Benteke without losing. 10 points from 7 games = better start than last season. Comfortable mid table position. Scum lost at home in front of 2 men and his dog. Manure losing, pathetic defending by them. I repeat, GREAT day allround. Happy, happy Saturday!

Yawn, the Bent argument has been done to death.
He didn’t fit the system nor did Lambert want him. He’s gone, move on and give Kozak time to settle. Look at KEA, slagged off last year, doing well this season. Players need time though its the same old moaners who can’t wait to get on his back.

Not only has it been done to death, its always been looked at in the wrong way, any poster on here that thinks Bent would have been a bench warmer needs their head examined, in the end it was either Benteke or Bent, not both.

Pissed off about our performance today but I guess we just have to find the positives. Our defence looked really good today and Guzan not really threatened. 2 clean sheets already this year, I think that’s more than the whole of last season!!

Weimann needs a kick up the arse and benching but there is nobody good enough to bring in. When Benteke is back, Kozak wont get a look in. Not sure what is happening with Helenius, but the more I think about it, the stranger the signings of Helenius and Tonev seem…neither really fit into the system that we play.

Good piece in the Times today about how players feel the need to go to the “big 4” to become England regulars – but how it doesn’t work.
“Ashley Young may have played in CL and got a PL medal, but if he thinks he has improved as a footballer he is deluded”. Indeed!
Not relevant to this thread but very true.

Thinking about the game yesterday, there wasn’t much movement going on, from midfield to strikers, and to a certain extent from defence to midfield. I don’t know if everyone is now just expecting a long ball but the midfield needs to start being active collecting the ball from the defenders and the strikers need to have more movement into space. The defence were kicking the ball among themselves and there seemed to be three separate lots of players – defence, midfield and strikers – not integrating.

On the downside, it was a turgid game with little to entertainment value at all.

On the upside, we are stifling opposition chances, and it’s a second away clean sheet in a row. Keep them going when Benteke comes back and things may start to look up.

id have to disagree on hull being the worst team in the prem, the stats in the table don’t back that up for starters, yes when the winter comes, jan, feb and if they get injuries their depth may find them wanting and struggling come the end but so far this season they have been outstanding only losing to Chelsea and man city, that in its self is a huge testament for a newly promoted team.
as for Kozack, yes give the lad a chance, he came on against Newcastle and his movement was enough for tekkers to get a goal, scored against Norwich and was involved in the winner against citeh(before anyone says he didn’t get a touch we would not have score had he not been in that position challenging for the ball)I admit he doesn’t look great and when I 1st saw him I thought ‘oh my god its another Peter ‘good touch for a big fella’ Crouch’, he’s brand new to the league and the country and I seem to remember tekkers took a while last season to get into his stride didn’t he? jury is out but give the guy a chance he’s played 2 games and 2 as sub!
don’t know why westwood got on yesterday, think sylla should’ve kept his place really.
positives, dare I say it but Vlarr is looking solid this season, much improved as is deplh and kea. bacunna is a revelation, gabby is playing well but wiemann needs a kick up the arse, he’s looked very lazy all season and has blown a few good chances.
id like to see more of hellanius and tonev too.

Mate, you’re talking to people on here who don’t have the greatest concept of football at times.

I agree that Hull aren’t the worst team in the league, I recall someone posting that goalscoring was their Achilles heel after netting five in three games.

They may well go down, but they’re a typical Bruce side that are no pushover. Ask Newcastle and West Ham.

We created chances yesterday, but just weren’t clinical enough to take them.

I’m happy to give Kozack time, some on here said Benteke was useless after a few games. Thankfully, Lambert doesn’t read this site.

And for all the Darren Bent would have scored a goal if played merchants, we’d have probably been under far more pressure as he wouldn’t have got involved, and we’d have probably lost by a couple. Two ways to look at everything.

And we’re still the only team to beat Arsenal as West Bromich draw. The best thing about Clarke is he has his team playing brilliantly together, but no one stands out. Other than Berahino simply because he’s 20 and scored the winner against United for the first time in 30 or so years. Amalfitano was a brilliant loan pick up though, wouldn’t mind Villa trying to snatch him away in January or next summer permanently.

Agree but kozac is never going to get a sniff when benteke I’d back and rightly so. He is slow and cumbersome has little movement and will never use his left foot even with an open goal on front of him. I just hope he’s not going to be his replacement next season

        Andrew October 6, 2013 at 6:25 pm . Reply

He won’t, he was bought simply to be back up when Benteke’s out or to give Benteke a rest around 70 minutes against tired legs where his lack of pace won’t be such a problem and he’ll get in behind the defense.

Yeah, we could have, but then with Benteke injured, who do you play up front? We needed a striker. And we’re still linked with a lot of strikers, one from Lokomotiv even claiming he knows that we’re interested in him and have scouted him and he’s their highest scoring striker, Not claiming we’ll sign him in January or next summer, but we’re still looking. So I wouldn’t be too worried about Kozak being our new starting striker up front, but I am glad we finally have options that Lambert feels comfortable playing. I mean we could only have Bowery playing, Or Weimann who’s massively out of form, or Gabby who most have come to the conclusion that he’s not a striker, is that what you’d rather see? Still don’t get how Sylla was dropped, we look better with him and we have a far better points per game ratio with him than without. As he gives Delph more freedom which needs to happen.

Fair point but last week we scored 3 with 3 different scorers and yesterday we wouldn’t have scored if we were still playing now. Kozac was awful in last 2 games he did nothing.

            Andrew October 6, 2013 at 7:46 pm . Reply

That’s why I still find him as a sub. But we still have no choice but to play him and still think Sylla should have played over Westwood. He’s the reason our midfielders in Delph and Ahmadi can do more because he covers them, Westwood’s not a DM and because we’re not playing the same kind of football we did last season, he doesn’t work in the team. He’d work far better in a Swansea-type team. Still think he was our biggest miss again. I do think Kozak will eventually come well as a sub. Benteke should be back for the Spurs game so hopefully things will change up front. I’d still rather him than Bowery up front.

Typical spurs get hammered before they play us they will be wound up for us now. Agree re kozac no more than a bench warmer and impact player IMO. Sylla should def start over Westwood. Westwood, Lowton and weimann have all gone backwards this season for so e reason.

          3. Andrew
            Andrew October 6, 2013 at 9:58 pm . Reply

Think that depends. A lot of their players are International’s, while a few of our foreign players are. We’re getting players back from injury and with the next 2 weeks off, back to full fitness, while Spurs players are going to be playing for the most part this coming 2 weeks. Plus most of our internationals aren’t starters for their Country, other than Tonev, Kozak and Benteke, and 2 of them won’t start against Spurs imo and all 3 probably won’t start, so full fitness should be there for Villa.

I agree those 3 have, but then I also think Weimann’s been lazier in helping Lowton, and Bacuna’s just much better than Lowton. Westwood’s abilities are suited as a deep lying, spread the ball around midfielder, keep possession and keep it under pressure, which he can do, but that’s not us this season. It’s changed to what we were playing late last season where Villa were winning games, quick paced, counter attack or make quick breaks.

Dunno what’s wrong with Weimann, I can see his confidence being low, and it isn’t going to help if he doesn’t start scoring for Austria to beat out Sweden tot he play-offs.
