James Chester signed; confirmed from the horses mouth

james-chester

It’s in the bag and confirmed by Tony Pulis.

Well, I don’t know what to think here.
He seems a decent player, but I’m concerned that he hasn’t had many games under Tony Pulis and when he has started, it’s been at full back.

Pulis is a strange manager though and never goes with what players/fans think.
At the end of the day, he’s made Albion a profit and that’s important.

I just hope this is one we’ve been looking at for a while and not just a kneejerk reaction, which I seriously suspect Dr Xia might be prone to.

Yeah good signing hopefully that’s the centre backs sorted with Baker (ok not great) as backup. Need a RB, which we all know. Hopefully there is one In the pipeline!.. Jedinak would be a solid signing too. Just as important though is to distance ourselves from the negativity and bad eggs in the side. I really hope we can get rid of them!

      Willy, that’s a new concern.
It seems he blocked Bennet from leaving to Sheff Weds, after RDM wanted him gone.
      Worrying, IF true.

I dunno, he could (if he was right) really hurt teams with his pace but you have to play him down the middle not this out on the lest wing business.
I reckon he’s more than capable of getting over 20 goals at this level so is biting your nose to spite your face the best thing to do? Cause unlike Mutton, Deadwood and Kakuna he does actually have ability.

Does he still have the pace ?? and his eye for goal is shocking, couple this with his lazy attitude, and he could be the bad apple – He only wants to stay because nobody else would pay his extortionate wages…. GET RID !!

          BWS,
I want the manager to go out and buy the players, simple.
Xia, as much as his intentions might be good, knows fuckall about the game, imo,
And posts tweets that prove it.
My opinion says this is going to go tits up, big time, if he carries on.
He needs to shut his trap and let RDM do what he does.

Xia seems to think you can turn a footy club around the same as a company.
We all know it doesn’t quite work like that.

I bet you it don’t and if anything was a prime example of an owner sticking his nose into the transfer policy for all the wrong reasons was last seasons fiasco with it’s moneyball ethos.
Ok Randy might not have had direct involvement but his representatives were i.e. Riley & Almstadt. It was pretty obvious their remit was to buy cheap (by going solely on a players stats aka – monyball) with the hope of a high yield return, a risky endeavour that cost Randy and the club dear and to be honest I don’t remember this vitriol against Randy at the time.
Whatever the Doc’s reason for splashing the cash and whatever his involvement I’m at the moment one happy bunny (though that might change at 16:45 tomorrow).

I don’t think he has the power to be a Premiership striker. He was on Chelsea’s books and they figured he would never be a Drogba. But, we’re not in the premiership and he certainly has the brains to succeed in this division where it isn’t quite as physical.

I’m encouraged that Di Matteo seems to be identifying the areas that need strengthening and mainly going for players with experience of playing in the Championship, rather than random foreign youngsters! I’d give him at least a season to build and aim for promotion next season.

Euros evidence that this bloke is a Premier league player. Amazed that we got him. He played well alongside Williams – an inspirational leader – can see him doing the same with Elphick. Will also work well in a 3 with Baker and 2 attacking full backs Amavi and hopefully Gunter.
1 million % improvement on Okore and Richards.

I for one am glad bennet is staying and should be given a run in the team. he was a kid thrown into the prem who was out of his depth at the time. even so his last few games were not too bad. he has been on loan in the championship the last 2 seasons and the team’s he went to have done well.
    Sheffield wanted him also.
    give him ago.
    as for amavi ???

Bennett is never a LB and I wouldn’t keep him, because he’s crap and the manager agrees.
My major worry now is who the hell is deciding who we buy/sell.
It seems like it’s Xia and we all know where that leads.
The last thing we want is a Leeds type owner, trust me.

Xia blocked the move because we were giving the player to a rival on a free transfer. If Wednesday had offered to BUY Bennett then I doubt Xia would have blocked the move.

Time will tell Badger but it’s early doors on his tenure to be putting him in the same bracket as Cellino.

i didn’t think Chester would sign for us, but iam happy he has, we needed a partner for Elphick, were we was really short of quality.but toner and baker as back up. please please get shut of lescott and okore and richards all three are poisonous to team moral.

RDM really needs to quickly get his team together. slowly but surely we are getting leaders and quality down the spine. midfield needs addressing next,we are leaderless in there. we need a animal like others have already said. somebody that can get to grips of the ball, when things aren’t going our way.

am i alone in saying ayew should be sold, hes not fully committed to villa. we are stepping stone club and now we are in the unfashionable championship he wants out, while he hasn’t voiced this you can tell with his game and body language.

I agree about Ayew. Looks good at times but the rest of the time has a can’t be arsed attitude. Did you see his pass to Grealish against Luton when we were counter attacking, hoofed it not giving a fuck and didn’t look bothered at all. I’d happily see him go now I think his head is turned and not up for the fight.

Where exactly is the ‘information’ coming from suggesting that Xia is ‘buying players’ [instead of RDM doing it] ?

  19. OriginalLondonLion
    OriginalLondonLion August 12, 2016 at 8:19 pm . Reply

My take on the change of attitude to transfers. Xia knows if you front up with 400M then everyone you want’s prices go up to ensure you spend all of it. You need to keep the manager on a leash too – look at MON. So the initial spending, e.g. Elphick for 3M was cautious and value-hunting. Luton was the last chance saloon for the bomb squad – they blew it. Suddenly with all the bomb squad out of contention, we were very short of cover. In some positions neither a first choice nor a back up. So the purse strings have been relaxed. RDM may have been told we can afford to keep Bennett instead of having to sell, and some of his slightly expensive targets are now within the revised budget. I don’t think that is the owner buying players and telling the manager later.

I think Badger is panicking and he’s usually fairly level headed. I can see why after Wednesday’s game and the defeat against Wednesday BUT signing Chester is a genuine strengthening of the backline.

Defeat to Luton could prove to be the most important moment of our season. It has confirmed for those in charge what many of us knew about the squad and also roused the Dr in to supporting RDM…….utv
