I actually could see Austin with Adebayor as super sub. That could really work.

For all those who’ve forgotten Adebayor used to a cracking player but that was when he was under….mmmm…what’s his name…some guy called Sherwood i think!

Adebeyor is exactly what we don’t need. Another injury priced overpaid mercenary the type of player we’ve been trying for years to get off our books. He will want a £100k per week ffs. Why don’t we just offer Benteke another 50k to stay instead. I’m still not convinced his heart is really in going to Liverpool and would rather move south than further north.

Always been a fan of Adebayor’s when he actually cares, like he did under Sherwood, but Adebayor doesn’t have the mentality that Sherwood wants and I can’t see it happening. He’d be a good 2nd choice and is different than Kozak is, technically is quite gifted, similar to Berbatov, but his attitude for a majority of the time is poor, although his strike rate is quality. I do think we’ll look for 2 strikers if Benteke leaves, as I believe we were in for a striker to partner Benteke. Embolo would be quality next to Benteke if he stayed.

Definitely be shocked if we were ever interested in Callum Wilson, let alone are now, English media have no clue who we want. If Sherwood wants a Premier League experienced striker, the best one would be Chicharito to partner Kozak (if Benteke left) as his runs are absolute class. There’s a lot of strikers out there that I think we could get/go for.

I agree. I don’t think anyone should take much notice of the media. I mean they didn’t predict Gueye and Amavi joining until negotiations were well under way so what do they know? Still prepared for a few surprises.

Also agree that Chicharito would be a brilliant buy. He’s still young but has experience and has played at the highest level. A real trier too which would please Sherwood.

Chicarito is quality, but I’m not convinced he would want to sign for us. I’d take Austin, as he is a proper goalscorer. Adebayor – not convinced, way past his best.

I suspect some media waffle here but people saying Adebeyor is exactly the type of player we don’t want blah blah………Yawn. Talented, often unplayable, an eye for goal (career stats better than 1 goal every 3 games), a point to prove, loves Sherwood and tried his arse off for him. He could be great for a season or two. If we could sign him AND Austin we then have options upfront with Kozak, Sinclair and Gabby. This would be refreshing seeing as the only option for 3 years has been Benteke or nothing. (Blimey – I sound like Adebeyor’s agent!!). It appears to be his family who are a bit loopy.

I wonder if Manchester United did move for Benteke whether they’d chuck Hernandez in as part of the deal?

I’ve woken up in a positive mood today.

Agreed. We have relied far to much on Benteke over the last 3 years. Having Adeabayor on a season long loan wouldn’t, imo, be a bad thing.

Hernandez would be awesome but I can’t see that ever happening. Hope I am wrong.

Media reckon benteke wants Utd over Liverpool lol and is holding out to see if they come in for him. This means he’s no chance of joining pool as their fans would go ballistic. If Utd don’t come in for him then he is in limbo and we can tell him to do one

If he does go then I will feel much better about it if it’s a champions league side – also Adam Lallana needs to keep his average / overpriced mouth shut – talking about it as if it’s a done deal.

The issue I have is that with the release clause in place then anyone can activate it and it could go to the last day of the window while…….leaving us in financial limbo.

It’s how transfers work mate, every club does it. We are probably still paying for Gill and Sinclair and whoever else. I think, but don’t quote me, it’s something to do with the buying club obviously having a budget. So say (for arguments sake) Liverpool had a budget of 50 million, They may of already spent 35 million on other signings and only have 15 million left. So they would say to Villa we will give you 15 million now and 17.5 before June 30th. Then If Villa accepted it and wanted, say Austin, they would say to QPR we’ll give you 8 million now and 7 million before July 31st next year, giving them time to receive the money they’re owed from Liverpool. Hope that makes sense mate. That’s my view anyway. 🙂

Almost every transfer is paid in instalments – with the exception of small amounts. For instance, when we bought Bent we paid Sunderland 3 instalments of £6 mill plus some additional bonus based amounts (that was from Niall Quinns own mouth. Getting the full amount up front would give us a little more bargaining power but wouldn’t make a huge difference.
As B6 states, it’s usually for cash flow/budget/financial accounting and is most glaringly obvious when clubs have loans with a forced purchase at the end of the loan – it’s purely so that the payment is shown in the following years accounts. Nothing unusual about the Liverpool payment structure at all.

Unlikely but it does happen, hence lots of lower league teams lose money when another side who owes the transfer fees goes into administration and also the reason why some clubs get a transfer embargo (forest) because they haven’t settled there owed instalments of transfer fees on time.

Guzan didn’t get on the pitch v Arsenal, but he was certainly one of those Tim left in no doubt were a bunch of losers. Even the reported asking price £3m shows he isn’t held in much regard.

Austin would need to get approved by Villa’s player insurance company. That company has probably told Villa their premiums are hiked unless they raise the medical bar, after signing a casualty-ward in the past 2 seasons and then subjecting them to SAS induction at BMH. I am not sure if Austin would pass the medical. As I posted before Bournemouth have bought in players as if they expect Wilson to go. For the situation where you have 9 men behind the ball and just 1 up on the half way line, Wilson is one of the best.

I don’t object to Adebayor, just to 100K a week or anything like it. We have Gabby already who has looked even less interested and scores far fewer goals. Either player next season will be a real test of Tim’s motivational prowess – and my bet is it will be harder to get a tune out of Gabby even with Benteke out of the way.
