Apparently we are bidding for Charlie Austin and are willing to meet QPR’s £15m asking price – big move on bets so Skybet reopened the market. Villa now 3/1 behind the bar codes

H60, I really suspect Austin is the man we’re after. Or at least, should be.
He has the required movement up front and ticks what I think would be Sherwood’s boxes.

If I’m honest I’d be quite amazed if Charlie Austin went somewhere else. Why has he been hanging about so long? I’m hoping it’s because he knew that we would be bidding for him as soon as Benteke was gone.

With Austin and the players we’ve already got it might be quite exciting, attacking more on the ground that lumping it forward. Have to admit that from the little I’ve seen of Gil the thought of Gabby and Austin running into spaces with Gil providing the ammunition is exciting me already. Just hope the rumours are true.

Think it has more to do with QPR’s asking price. 15m for him is too much, kinda like 10m for Phillips is far, far too much. If we were able to get his price down, then multiple clubs would be after him and I don’t think he cares if we get him or someone else does.

I’m not sure about Austin I don’t think he’s anywhere near as good as Benteke but he is the best of a bad bunch of striker we can get. Don’t get me wrong I think he’s decent but would rather have him as a squad player tbh.

Love your comment that everyone’s the best of a bad bunch. He’s not near as bad as you’re making him out to be. Technically I’d say he’s probably as good as Benteke, but overall not yet. Although he has shown his overall ability at times, and can stay onside.

Ings is similar standard to Austin but will only be a squad player at Liverpool. We need to do the same sign a good striker similar standard to benteke and have Austin as back up

Standard of Benteke. What striker can we get, actually get, that’s the standard of Benteke? I don’t know too many around that are even his standard, especially available.

Austin is a good finisher I’d play him up top with gil and grealish just behind, Sanchez and gueye in center mid. And we need one more attacking mid or try Gardner just in front of Sanchez and gueye and play a 4-2-1-3 type formation. Probably still need one more att mid.

nearly wrote a really nasty comment about our new signing but had second thoughts about it but some players need to shut there faces the player in question is Idrissa Gueye.

New Aston Villa signing Idrissa Gueye has told L’Equipe he aims to use the Premier League side as a stepping stone to a big club.

wtf hes not played one game for us but is already thinking about his next move.
what is it with these foreigners . they never heard of good manners . i suppose if your dragged up in some shithole you say what you think but it pisses me off. have you noticed the poorer the country these players come from the more of a mercenary they seem to be.

Quick comment on what Gueye said about his new employers: this is exactly what is wrong with the club and what the chap who wrote in the Mirror recently was talking about. When players come over to discuss a move, what the hell are they told? It’s not difficult; they should be told that you’re coming to a big club and we expect to WIN things, with YOU playing your part and earning your f****** wages!

Really annoyed that he’s said that, but more annoyed that he thought it. The club needs to seriously evaluate how it’s perceived by others, but more importantly, how it perceives itself. Only the people who run the place can put this right. Memories of John Gregory telling Doug that he ‘talks big but acts small.’ At the moment, Villa think small, talk small, and act small. This MUST change! Tim Sherwood has a big part to play here. Psychologically, if you tell the squad you expect top 6 and a cup, it’s more likely to happen than if you say top 10 will do. Aim high FFS!

Players need to shut their stupid mouths and people in charge need to raise the standard, in every way. Comment wasn’t so quick after all.

Hmmm, I wonder if the pissed off press in France might occasionally twist players words? Imagine how it would have sounded in the hands of the Villa OS……eg Amavi.

That said, we are not recognised as a big club on the continent (not mega rich, not playing champions league) – sad but true. If we sign anyone good I believe we have a 2 to 3 year window to convince them we’re going places – if not they’ll want off and we need to sell them for a profit and reinvest. Kind of a sustainability model. Until we hit top 4 /6 then this will always be so.

Bang up for Austin if it happens.

Not worried in the slightest what Gueye said. Isn’t it up to us to persuade him that we are indeed a ‘big club’?

Perhaps by ‘big club’ he means Barca or Real in which case you can’t argue. Anyway he has ambition which is good and so long as he earns his money that fine with me.

I see the press now can’t agree amongst themselves over Benteke’s move to Liverpool. NN has reports quoting Rogers as not knowing anything about the deal and Sky has a report from the Liverpool Echo quoting Rodgers as saying he went after Benteke because they needed a proven goal scorer.

So whoever the media say we are after as a replacement may be
B***ocks because we have ‘t sold him or
B***ocks because they haven’t got a clue anyway

Pretty easy to establish the common denominator!

Until I see Benteke in a red kit I will assume he is staying another season. The media has been all over place from the very beginning. I would assume Rodgers was advised to keep his mouth shut until they have agreed personal terms, but who knows. If a fee has been agreed between the clubs I am sure Fox hasn’t made it easy for them and we all know how Kismet acts. I am sure Rodgers did them no favors a few days ago by stating Benteke would get no guarantees and would have to fight for his spot.
