See we are now being linked with a loan move for Adebayor. Not a bad option as long as we also sign a long term replacement for Benteke.

I thought you didn’t mind loans as long as it wasn’t to make a player better for another team? Adebayor wouldn’t be going back to Tottenham. So what’s wrong with it? Or are you going to find some other excuse now?

Yes you got me there Andrew but I just think he will be injured for most of the season. He will start well for first few games then die a death I’m afraid. He was rubbish for baggies and we are doing Spurs a favour yet again

I think spending 2-3 Mill on wages to bring Adebayor in for a season would be OK. He would be a free agent at the end of the season, so if he does well we can sign him for nothing. If he doesn’t perform it’s no different to taking a punt on a young prospect for 2 mill transfer and 1 mill wages for that year. I actually don’t like Adebayor, but think he could do a job for us for this coming season with no long term risk attached.

Seeing Adebayor’s never been at “the Baggies” I don’t know what you’re getting at. He’s been great under Sherwood and that’s all we can actually go on right now.

I see that OOHAAH is still as emotional as ever..

So what if Gueye said that.. what’s the difference in saying it and him thinking it..

Every player has ambiiton to play at the highest level they can.. no one is going to come to VIlla and be a player who can play for a Champ lge team but think ‘allow that’

Players have ambition and drive to go as far as they can.. if they didn’t they probably wouldn’t even make it this far..

I hope Gueye smashes it and in 18 months time Mournhio is after him..

Every club is a selling club,, just like the club we brought Gueye from in the first place..

Charlie Austin shortened from 3/1 to 6/4 and Adebayor at 1/4 to move to Villa on Skybet. Now I don’t really understand betting but many on here say the bookies are usually nearer the mark than the media when it comes to predicting outcomes.

Don’t understand that ooh ahh, we were still a better team than Qpr last season ( marginally) and he scored 18 goals for them? What is wrong with a striker that scores 18 goals starting games?

No striker that scores at that rate plays as a squad player!

Austins price is 15m that’s honestly cheap for a proven prem goal scorer at 25
But a tad daft for villa to spend on a squad player.
We all want messi here whatever the cost but you can’t expect us to go from fighting relegation for 4 years to signing top goal scorers in. The league as squad players in one summer. Is that why you think everything is shite and you are constantly depressed ?(besides just an effort to create controversy/debate)
You basically want us to be Real Madrid tomorrow and anything less is a failure

I may be in the minority here but I would love to see a strike partnership of Adebayor and Austin. Tim can sort Adebayor’s head like he did before. Thats a much better strike partnership than either Benteke and Gabby or Benteke and Weimann IMO. Not forgetting Kozak who certainly looked decent before his injury. I would settle for Adebayor/Austin as first choice with Gabby, Kozak and Robinson in reserve, that looks pretty strong to me and will leave some cash (if Randy coughs up) for another couple of signings.

Of course they do, we’re losing Delph and Benteke. One was supposedly our best player and there goes our goal scorer. Bookies never take into account who we sign. Gueye’s better than Delph. we could very well sign 2 strikers, we signed Richards, Amavi. They don’t take into account those signings, all they do is look at who we’ve lost and that tends to get everyone betting on us going down for that reason.

I see loads of goals in that partnership paricularly so with Gil and Grealish pulling the strings. All, in all we can certainly end up a far better team if the Benteke money is spent wisely!

Langford – I agree with you. Best strikers operate in pairs with one complementing the other. Agreed H60. There is nothing wrong with a years loan. With an Austin/Adebayor pairing we will move into the top 10 at a canter IMO. That essentially means that Adebayor has paid his own wages with the considerable increase in prize money that we will receive!

oohah, cant see beyond the end of his nose 🙂

That partnership could work quite well. And we’d still have Gabby as back up, and Kozak. 4 probably different types of strikers that can work well together. Kozak and Austin do have some similarities but choices would be great and those 4 could do quite well together.

Although reports of Destro are coming back. Arsenal definitely aren’t in for him, only West Ham are so we definitely have a chance, if he’s willing to leave Italy which is the problem with him, doesn’t seem to want too.

Why don’t we all be realistic? Firstly we don’t have 32.5 million for Benteke and 8 million for Delph to spend. Both surely have clauses where their previous club gets a share of any future transfers. Next, we are not going to attract a top class striker, even with a big transfer fee for Benteke. Nobody in their right mind would want to come to a club that has flirted with relegation for so many years. We need to try and build up the reputation of the club and climb the table in order to make us more attractive to higher profile players. What’s wrong with Charlie Austin as an option ? He has scored goals at Premier League level, although I would value him at no more than 12 million. If we are to get Adebayor, then I would also prefer the loan option. Come August and the start of the season, we will then see how good a manager Sherwood is He has his own squad which, on the face of it, has the potential to be more attacking rather than the dross Lambert promoted. I see Lambert has been interviewed by Sky, firstly stating that Delph has the right to change his mind, twice. He said that he could have walked away at the end of the season for nothing and at least Villa have got a fee for him. It sounds as though this move was planned all along. Then he goes on to say that Benteke’s move to Liverpool is money well spent. That’s a far cry from him saying that Benteke was not for sale and that he should stay at Aston Villa for his own development. Sounds like disloyal sour grapes to me.

If we pay 7m for Adebayor then Sherwood definitely has an eye on returning to Spurs one day!!

Plus I dont buy the idea of a partnership of Adebayor/Austin as it is very unlikely we are going to play 4-4-2. I just hope if we sign one of them, his first name is Charlie!!

Me too rather have Austin not much quality but gives 100% every game a fighter just what we need. Adebeyor will just turn up when he feels like it. Bit like ballotelli no doubting his ability but his head is rarely right in a consistent basis.
