Lambert is an employee of AVFC. He isn’t going to walk and avoid his big pay off and Lerner won’t sack him. I’m afraid we are stuck with Lambert until the club is sold.
The key thing here is an offer of a new contract was being discussed a few months ago that doesn’t seem to be the case now. He has 12 months left.
Lerner must be on the verge of selling else we will have a demoralised club , with no leadership / motivation heading for the championship. Which financially for Lerner would be a catastrophy.

He is not really selling Steve it’s all a con so he can maintain the status quo. He can then drag this in for years to come

Possibly but if you play russian roullette you eventually get shot. He won’t be maintaining the status quo if we are relegated.
The club at the moment is going nowhere. ST sales will be well down (i think a lot of fans are waiting to see how this turns out before renewing). The players will no Lambert is on his last legs and become unmotivated, no players of quality will join the club. It all spells doom hence that is why i think we are being sold.

Hope your right Steve but all Lerner has do is sign someone like a lescott and the fans will flock back and a signing like that would prob keep us up. Though he does make lots of mistakes like all our centre halfs!!

come on mate, that is not happening. I would agree if a sale not done by the middle of June you are more likely to be right. However I stay firmly convinced by the 1st of June it will be much clearer who will own us.

In answer to the questions you posed. No I did not expect Lerner to sack Lambert. No I did not expect Lambert to walk. I also don’t expect the club to be sold by June 1, or anytime soon.

The problem with the statement “until the club is sold” is that is open ended. If it was imminent I don’t think there would be any need for any statement about Lambert. I expect he would be one of the first casualties.

Like everyone else I was hoping for a positive outcome to this. It will happen at some point, but not anywhere soon enough for most I suspect. Lerner needs to invest a bit simply to protect his asset, but will he? If we are about to be sold there will be no transfer activity. If we aren’t, there still might not be any!

Make of that what you will …. Lerner will not sell us out IMHO to someone who does not trust/like.

Whatever, Lambert is here until at least Christmas if not next summer. With only a year left on his contract even a new owner would consider keeping the guy for the short-term and build next summer. At the very least he has proven he can keep a terrible team up. I just hope Lambert has been given some funds to buy at least 1-2 big names (5M – 8M range). Sadly I’m just a little worried because it’s a WC summer and prices, even for crap players, will be at a premium. The next tv money won’t help prices either, so… yeah, the wait continues.

But I still believe that he would of been a good for Villa if he hadn’t of come in when he did.

If the take over had of happened 2 years ago & the new owner had of brought in PL, I firmly believe that we would be a top 6 side but as it stands, its all ifs and buts…

How is the statement ‘until the club is sold’ very short term ?

It could be any length of time, in fact, by my reckoning, until the club is sold.

Most plausible sources in the media suggest that there are currently no interested buyers in advanced negotiations, so all this clap trap that you desperately try to scrape together to make fit your fanciful notions is just that.

Why couldn’t you have just done the honourable thing and stayed away after telling us all that OGS was definitely the new manager. Didn’t everything point to that ?

I read on the official site that some bloke who is mates with Tom Hanks is going to be at the matches in Texas. What do the tea leaves at the bottom of your mug suggest that means ?

People say they dont want red bull as we would be re-branded. Would anybody care if we became league champions?? Larry ellison could come in and really fuck things up hes 4th richest man in the world abd 250mil is nothing to him we would either be his pride and joy or just an expensive toy. And as for lambert…. I never wanted him but hes contracted for another year and has given RL no reason to sack hik his task was to keep villa on the league whilst reducing the wage bill

Where exactly does it say “until the club is sold”?

None of the news reports I’ve looked at, nor the statement on the official site, seem to include those exact words.

It’s just common sense that neither Lambert nor anyone else is going to announce plans for the long-term when any new owner could change things overnight, but all the reports so far just take that for-granted. Nowhere have I found somebody needing to add that ‘until the club is sold’ bit.

I’ve seen nothing new in print today that suggests a sale is about to happen – in fact several [Express & Star, Mirror to name just two] repeat that no firm buyer is in place.

The club is in limbo, all that we’ve learned today is that on a day-to-day basis it just carries on as it has for the last few weeks.

As for those who spent last week and then the the weekend posting in various forums that Lambert had been fired already -just shows what a load of donkey-droppings the supposed “ITK’s” produce!

So true, so so true. You’re asked to leave, put the club up for sale, why not try to get the most out of it?

a lot have having cake and eating it though,
Lerner had the custodian and infrastructure approach but not the cash or the football acumen …

You want rid, .. you can’t make any claim or demands on the new owner, nor could you of the last one really, but he did listen at times.

If its to the highest bidder, we could vincent tan times 10 – i don’t mean in monetary terms.
i mean in terms of disaster

lol the irony there is that we may get a new owner that has no intention of listening to the fans who got the chance to buy villa because the last owner did listen to fans and sold!

Honestly at this point if say someone with the same money as ‘Lerner came along but with the same respect for the heritage and history of villa, and tries to put some decent football know how behind the scenes, I would trade that for a Tan or yeung or fernandes with 10 times the wealth ..
i don’t want 5 years of attempted glory traded for 20 years in the wilderness or financial ruin.

“As long as I’m here, I would never sell Christian Benteke,” said Paul Lambert in an interview with SkySports. He went on to say that there are a few players like Benteke, “a core of good players,” who are an absolute necessity to keep around. One can only presume that players such as Jores Okore, Fabian Delph, and Brad Guzan are included in that group.

I do wonder how many players are part of a “core of good players” that we have. Vlaar, Okore, Delph, Guzan, Benteke… I’d add Kozak, Westwood (maybe).

i think u would have 2 expect bacuna and tonev to improve for the last season experience weimann gabby will be vital, nxt year more players will be integrated from our youth set up and i bet 3 loaned experienced players

Ah, forgot Bacuna and Weimann. The latter will definitely be far more happy that Lambert’s staying.

If we get 3 loanees in, I don’t care that they’re experienced, I just want them far better than Holt. Hell, ask Barcelona for 3 kids, sure Enrique wouldn’t mind seeing 3 incredibly talented kids (too bad Everton’s loanee’s going back :p). I can see some experience coming in though.

Yeah, because fans are going to jump for joy that Villa are going to be ambitious and sign bloody fucking Lescott… Oohah, get real will you? If they’re going to make up garbage to sell season tickets, it’s not going to be about bloody fucking players like Lescott. My word.

Nath, I agree. I do see us moving for a fair few loans. Hopefully the right ones, and the best loanees tend to be the flare, attack minded ones. No more Bertrand’s and Holt’s, can do so much better than them.
10m for Holtby too… If that’s true, Spurs are stuck with him. Worth maybe half that to teams.

Lescott is a big experienced name and he’s a villa fan allegedly. Not a great fan of his as he is error prone like vlaar and Dunne but he is a leader and be good for dressing room. Natural captain.

But he’s not a player to sell season tickets. Of course he has a mistake in him, and so did Vlaar, but when you’re under attack for 80 minutes every game, Vlaar can’t help but either 1. be the best defender in the world to keep a clean sheet or 2. make 1 mistake a game. Every defender has a mistake in them, even the likes of Benatia, Subotic Hummels and Silva, probably the 4 best CB’s as of right now. However will he start over Okore? I dunno. And he’d want 50-55k wages which I can see Villa paying, but for a bench player? Again arguable.

According to reports he is on circa 90k at city. Even kompany has made some howlers this season. Just that vlaar makes more than most and as for Bennett !!

He’ll drop his wages no doubt.

Vlaar makes a lot of errors because 1. Our midfield is terrible. 2. He has to defend for 80 minutes… What the hell do you expect? Perfection? If he was that good, we wouldn’t have him, he’d have been at a club like Bayern already. He’ll make mistakes each and every game when you defend as much as our club does with the worst midfield in the league. Probably not far off on the worst fullbacks in Lowton and Bertrand/Bennett/Luna either.
