What’s to say?
We were the better side overall in my assessment and I was sat with a (genuine, long time) Citeh fan who actually agreed with that opinion.
That’s quite simply one of the most unjust results I can ever remember and there’s no way we deserved to lose that game.
I’m frankly heartbroken at the moment and may or may not update this.
Fair play to the team, is all I can say at the moment.
Talk about having the wind knocked out of your sails 🙁
Superb effort against a class, albeit lacklustre side.
I can’t believe we didn’t get a point at least.
Guzan… oh dear.
After this performance I do believe all our remaining fixtures are winnable,we were the first team in 8 hrs of footy at the eitihad to score against them.so a big well done lads
Absolutely Giddy.
We’ve got plenty enough in the tank to beat lesser sides.
As Langford has said, i’m heartbroken, but not downheartened in the slightest.
We scared Citeh big time on their own turf.
Badger was the city fan smaller than you??? Maybe that’s why he agreed with you.
Actually no.
He was a fair bit bigger, but had about 10 or 15 years on me.
I reckon I could have taken him 🙂
Nah, seriously, he was very reasoned and pointed out their weak points, which mainly involved lazy players.
He rated Milner highly and wants to keep him for another season.
No surprise there, I guess.
MATE I asked that because from my experience talking to anyone who support the sky4 are normally up their own arse & are full of it,oh well makes a nice change get it down yer MATE
Burnley came bk from 2 down and drew 2.2 City are not the force at home they were last season. They always seem to struggle more v the so called lesser teams
Ooh ah if you had free entry to villa park when ever you wanted, was given a million pounds, given the keys to the play boy mansion and found the cure for cancer you would find a negative, played really well, kept them in their shell, bad mistake by guzan set the tone for further mistakes. On the whole really enjoys the way we played tonight, confident, beating players, good passing, great chances and with more luck would have taken 3 points which would be well deserved
True but we still lost
In fairness, that was a brilliant advert for the premier league, I suppose 🙁
Am gutted silly goals to give away. Happy with the preformance. Its hurts me more that we came back from 2 down. If we keep playing like that we will be OK.
Spot on Dave.
While I’m heartbroken, I’m also highly encouraged.
Badger there’s something there, we was better but lost, why ?silly mistakes its coming believe me, teams will see Villa are back.
This has always been our problem silly defensive errors especially in last 5 mins
Very disappointed with that result, we did not deserve to lose, Better team throughout, I don’t think they realistically threatened us from open play all game long, very cool on the ball, and again some incisive attacking. I thought we mixed it nicely as well, we carried and ran at them at times, passed our way through them at others, put crosses in and went direct with Benteke too,
The difference being an absolute howler from Guzan and some school boy organisation with a wall from a straight forward free kick.
we defeated ourselves really.
Benteke onside too would have won that game for us but considering the ballotelli decision last week .. we can’t complain too much.
Shows how far we have come really when we go to the Etihad and are bitterly disappointed to lose
Bill/ Colonius,
Agreed, it’s coming together and you can see it.
Some lovely one touch passing that easily matched anything Citeh had to offer.
And while Grealish didn’t impose himself in the same way he did last week, he still looks class, imo.
The big question now, has to be about if Sherwood can find players to improve us.
This will be the true test of how good a manager he is, imo.
But that’s a debate for later in my eyes.
Unlucky Villa. Apart from 3 terrible defensive errors, the team controlled large periods of the game. Having come back from 2 down I thought we deserved a least a point. Massive incorrect decision by the linesman resulted in Villa not having a penalty and hart being sent off. If we continue to carry the performances into the Next game against Everton we should get 3 points. To be honest I was not expecting to get anything against City but feel disappointed we come away with nothing.
Villa to win remaining home games and a fa cup win to round off the season on the up.
Yes our own doing……City are so boring….couldnt watch that year after year…….all the old mistakes from ages ago have come back.Surely we can win 2 out of 5 from now on.
2 teams playing his week against Liverpool and Chelsea…….fingers crossed they balls up. Never cheer on Pool or the Commis until now.
It’s the footballing gods revenge for when we beat them after having 5% possession. It’s shit but onwards and upwards. Looking forward to the next game!
Other results not really going our way. Can’t believe Hull beat Palace away! Encouraging that we’re starting to get goals from midfield and you always sense we could get a goal from somewhere, whereas under Lambert you were wondering where the next shot at goal was going to come from! Very encouraging signs, but still not safe yet! Guzan should be dropped after that, in my opinion. He was caught flapping a few times.
what a change around under lambert mcleish we would buckled and been hammered
now for reality guzan richardson westwood played hopefully last game tonight
guzan has been shocking for 18 months now
richardson joke signing joke player
westwood one good game semi final does not cover how poor he is won t pass the ball forward or himself
results havent went our way so go out next week win and forget about relegation
Didn’t we beat City under lamberk last year after going behind twice!!
We did but that was just papering over the cracks. Tims now stripping the walls and starting again.
Hmmm the cracks are still there as seen yesterday
First of all I totally agree with the majority of comments regarding our performance all round today.I have every belief that we will confirm our place in the Premier League well before the last game. On a slightly negative note we have shown to be our own worst enemy. Let me just touch on the last seven goals we have conceded ( 3 against QPR, the Wembley goal against Liverpool and the three today) Apart from Fernandinho’s winner, the other six goals could so easily have been avoided. The first goal v QPR was the fault of Richardson for failing to cut out the cross,Guzan for failing to come for the cross and Bacuna for failing to head it clear. Richardson was again at fault for QPR’s second goal by ballooning a clearance straight in the air and giving away a corner in which we allowed Clint Hill to score off his shoulder. Richardson ( yet more of him in a minute) and Sanchez then allowed Phillips to waltz through and cross for Austin. Liverpool’s goal should have been cleared separately by both Okore and Delph before the ball went in for what was actually an own goal by Okore as Coutinho’s shot was going wide. Then today Guzan…..nuff said about the first followed by Richardson ( him yet again) left a gap in the wall for Kolarov’s free kick to go in. Also, is it just me or could Guzan actually have dived and possibly got to the first goal he gave them ?
Now there are people who are going to argue that Guzan has on many occasions been our saviour which is true but I for one believe he is very poor on coming off his line. As for Richardson, I think I have shown that he should not be in the staring eleven. Just rewind back to his embarrassing miss when he could have put us 3-1 up at Wembley. If we want to beat Arsenal then I think neither Guzan or Richardson should be selected.
Makes u wonder what they are doing or not doing in training
As Sherwood said “we play like that and get relegated? You’re ‘aving a laugh, int ya?” – love that comment – classy.
(no longer concrete) Ron Vlaar and Guzan lost that for us.. that stupid back pass when the goalie clearly didn’t want it, lost us the game. A draw was on the cards, but alas, wasn’t to be. We weren’t the better side, but neither were Man Shity. In the immortal words of every manager/coach… we wus robbed!
Oh, and before I forgot… Richardson OUT!! what a waste of space!
Unlucky not to get a point from the game. We outplayed Man City at times and had it not been for Guzan’s mistake……….
As to the Benteke / Hart incident, ManC should have been awarded a penalty when Bacuna pulled back Aguerro so ‘honours even’ on that score.
Apart from Guzan, I thought all our players put in a shift and really don’t understand the anti Westward / Richardson feelings. They did a job and didn’t let the team down. However, Given should be given a chance ahead of Guzan who is making too many mistakes.
Keep playing like that and we’ll be OK UTV
Ya is agree with you on the westwood point, Hitchens, I do see the richardson mistakes for a few games now in fact, Cissoko makes far less defensive mistakes much more solid there, but Cissoko makes more mistakes in attack, such taking on players he can’t beat, woeful crossing poor passing etc. Getting caught in possession.
I think richardson has to take some blame for the wall shambles, there is also an argument for the keeper too. he is the only one that is able to judge how much of the goal line he can cover.
but I did notice he quite well on navas today, its weird, we conceded 3 goals today, but I never felt like our defence was threatened, they looked organised and unflustered, they only hoofed it when there was nothing on and it was a question of safety. It seems the full back goes to the man or the overlap and delph/cleverly help out each time, it looked simple and effective. I have seen it before at villa, 3 in the middle for us is nothing new.
but it looked so solid today.
Then we concede 3 goals from a howler, a wall shambles, and poor corner .. how the f did that happen?
Anyways I thought Richardson defended well from open play today is what I am trying to say. Westwood did play some adventurous balls mainly in the second half when we were counter attacking, a couple of times It would be him giving it to grealish/Benteke on the break.
The one thing that still baffles me is Nzogbia vs Gil? why? .. Gil was a live wire before sherwood, the only thing potent and positive at Villa under lambert final couple of months.
Why is he not getting a game ahead of nzogbia? seriously?
I am baffled, there must be a reason, an altercation or something going on there.
No one pointing out Benteke was not off side? We was robbed by a linesman not doing a job he gets paid for, Richardson leaving a gap in the wall, silly mistakes lost us that, Villa played well but that’s football. Sorry to say it looked as if for the first 25 minute we was frightened of city, but got into playing good football in the end.I still believe we can win the cup and stay up.
In this instance he was onside, absolutely. I think, however, that the crazy number of times he was offside beside this impacts the linesmen’s decision. Benteke needs to improve his awareness of the defensive line and not get caught so often.
also, if there is a football god(s) Balotelli was onside last week too, could have changed that game had it been a goal. there are other variables too but still.
Can’t complain too much about that one.
Well said colonius81. Kendrick sums it up perfectly
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-comment-stop-tweeting-9120233
Well said he has had this problem for years happens time and time again. Why isn’t this worked on in training.
Remember benteke was offside for our first goal from free kick so it evened out. More importantly he needs to learn to play offside rule whenever a ball was played his way he was offside most of the time which kept giving city possession back. This has gone on for years and is a major weakness in his game. He also missed a great chance when one on one with Hart.
ITS SIMPLE -GUZON IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH….. his kicking is sh1t, and he doesn’t command his area or structure his walls against free kicks…. get rid and give shay given a chance.
Two schoolboy errors and a linesman that was obviously a closet City fan. The galling aspect was that for 75 minutes we f***ing outclassed them. Own worst enemies.
But being positive we played some great football and deserved to win.
Please TS drop Guzan and play Given for the rest of the games. I am 100% certain he wouldn’t have mis-kicked and would have saved the free kick.
BTW someone tell Richardson that when the keeper wants x amount of people in the wall he doesn’t mean that you can saunter off the side leaving a great big hole – f***ing amateurish that was.
Still if we play like that we’ll tonk Everton next week
UTV
We’ve gone back to the early lamberk days when we need 3 goals to win a game. If you remember we used to play decent football going forward for his first season but kept on conceding whic hammered goal difference. Then lamberk went defensive and we improved a bit in that area but coukdbt score. This is the same problem Sherwood has in that he is trying to out score the opposition because he can’t balance the defence and attack either. That’s the main difference between us and a sky 4 team they know how to defend and how to attack proportionately. Cheksea are masters at it.
In fairness, Chelsea are the most defensive of the big clubs. Often playing 2 Defensive minded and a strong defense, using a fast counter attacking style, with incredible wingers. Much like Villa under O’Neill. Not quite the talent of Hazard but the same style. Unlike the likes of City, United under Fergie, Arsenal, Barca, Madrid, Juventus, Bayern, etc that aren’t near that defensive, much of what Mourinho’s criticized for.
Unfortunately we don’t have the likes of Ivanovic, Azpilicueta and such.
True but there is no excuse for constant mistakes and conceding late goals on a regular basis
I know possession means nothing when it comes to results, but;
“Villa were the first visiting team in more than six years to have more possession over 90 minutes than City on their home turf.”
That has to say something, doesn’t it?
Pellegrini is saying that was Citeh’s worst performance of the season.
Personally, I think that was more about the way we played against them.
I forgot to say the Citeh fan next to me said after we equalised that he couldn’t wait for the
final whistle to go.
And as a slight aside, he also said that many true Citeh fans weren’t bothered about the Champions League, as it’s bent, although he conceded that the owners wouldn’t see it like that. A proper fan, who’d watched them in the second division.
Oh, whoever said Guzan should have saved the free kick, I totally agree and said the same at the time.
Even after a night’s sleep, I’m struggling to get over that result.
