Well, I hope everyone has had a good Christmas. My partner and I have enjoyed ours; very quiet, just as we wanted.
I didn’t do a write-up on the Sheffield game, but I was basically gutted and just didn’t want to think about it. Typical bloody Villa. Beat Man City and Arsenal and then go and lose to that load of rubbish, who even Luton have managed to beat tonight.
It’s just what we’ve always done for decades though, isn’t it?
As is often said amongst Villa fans, “it’s the hope that kills you”, and it’s this which probably makes some of us seem so pessimistic and not able to 100% believe. I mean, as much as I was confident of beating them, so, along with most I did make a big point of it being a banana skin game.
The good part was that we didn’t actually lose, as much as it felt like it, but I do wonder how that result and the Forest loss might look at the end of the season.
Anyway, onward and upward it is.
And I actually feel more confident that we’ll win tonight than I did against Sheffield.
Which is just nuts.
With our history against them it should be impossible to feel any confidence at all.
Yet I honestly do. I’m setting myself up for heartbreak, I know, but I’ve been saying for a couple of years now that Utd are totally rubbish.
I’m sure I heard somewhere that they’ve lost over half their games this season, which says a lot about them.
Add in that I think Ten fags will set up with a low block against little Villa and it says even more.
I can’t see them coming at us, because we’ll beat them even easier, in my opinion.
Team news and it’s out;
Martinez, Konsa, Carlos, Lenglet, Digne, Douglas Luiz, McGinn, Dendoncker, Bailey, Ramsey, Watkins.
Subs: Marschall, Proctor, Chambers, Moreno, Zaniolo, Duran, Diaby, Pau Torres, Iroegbunam.
We all know the state of injuries and suspensions, I’m sure.
Man U have dropped McTominay, but Rashford is back.
I really couldn’t care less, to be honest, as I firmly believe they’re just a club in decline and Ten fags will only be saved from the sack because no decent manager wants to touch the club.
These clickbait news sites might think they’re being clever in saying the likes of Emery would go there, but there’s not a hope in hell in reality.
Why would anyone want that poison chalice job?
So what to think?
Well, I don’t see too many goals.
Man U will be out to try and limit us, so it’s one or two goals to us.
I do see them getting one, if only because they haven’t scored in 4 games.
So that’s it then. Given that I think we’re going to win, it has to be 2-1.
The only worry is, if they do play the low block (I prefer “park the bus” myself. Where do all these recent sayings come from?), we might struggle to break them down.
Hopefully, Emery has a plan. Fortunately Cash won’t be involved, as much as I thouroughly dislike Konsa getting nosebleeds in playing so high as the opponent’s second half.
2-1 then.
Should I put a few bob on it, I wonder?
UTV!
To many mince fucking pies!!!!
Luiz and Ramsey having mares – all gone to shit and back.
Normal service has been restored – sadly.
And broadly in line with our Boxing Day results over the last 15 years.
I’m having flashbacks of fat Micky Quinn scoring a hatrick at Highfield Road in 92 against a half pissed McGrath.🤦
Striker in need of a goal? play the villa.. haven’t scored in 4 games? Play the Villa… 2 nil up at United.. lose 3-2 the Villa are back!!
Midfield have been performing like human Christmas puddings tonight. Why so effing slow to the ball????
We’ll put Adam – actually I admit that I stopped watching the game at 2-2. There was only going to be one result.
58 games v Untd in the Prem and we’ve won 5 – hardly worth bothering.
Before the game the Amazon Prime team quoted so many stats. Villa have won 9 out of 9 when they have taken the lead, Over 7 hours since United’s last goal, Hojlund hasn’t scored in the Premier League.
Inevitable that at least one of those would change, but all 3 FFS ?
9 minutes. We can win this, lads… 🤦
Every loose ball and 50/50 tackle has gone Man Ures way. Our system has been found out big time today. Not sure if Torres would have made a difference but Kamara probably would have.
I hope V sports have some big names coming in soon.
System was working perfectly for the first 25 minutes. 🤷
Every single loose ball tonight has fallen to Utd. We were so far off the mark tonight it’s incredible. Unrecognisable from the teams that beat Citeh and Arsenal.
Awful, but i don’t understand why. Why so many back passes???
Tiredness? Suspensions? Small squad?
SJM and DL have played with covid tonight by the look of it. Did Ollie get any of the ball????
Nerves. Pressure. Fatigue. Turkey. Wine…
We were absolute pants second half, Utd deserved it and Luiz had his worst game for a long time, awful.
Normal service has been resumed 🤦♂️
Is Ollie playing?
Livid. Going now otherwise I’ll be reported to the Gods of the internet.
Fuming.
Utd resurgence? Yeah right. We were shite. Proper lazy fkg shite.
Ollie didn’t even touch the ball 2nd half! We were shocking, just let United come back in to it I’m actually more embarrassed than the Shef United game. 2 nil up against this poor United team to then lose needs looking at something is not right. Dendonker is a waste of space, Ramsey not up to speed, Kamara is a massive miss in DM. I fully believe if Kamara and Luiz were able to play against Shef United and Man United tonight, we win both games that’s how important they are and how fucking stupid Kamara was to get sent off for no need.
If there’s one team I hate losing to, it’s Man Ure. Even worse when we were 2-0 up.
I will need to calm down because deep down I know we have outperformed where we should be.
Emery will learn more from that performance than anything else this season.
Dougy was hiding all game
2 defensive errors , sloppy passes
And they all looked Fuked
Eyes on pastures new?
They are fuked
Need fresh blood in Jan
Dougy hid all night , missing Kamara
2 sloppy passes led to 2 goals
They obviously had a half time team talk that trumped ours. The tempo they had we just didn’t match.
Burnley next could be similar to Sheffield United. It’s the situation we are facing for getting to the giddy heights of top 4. Other teams are upping their game when they play us and we need to learn how to deal with it.
Well Kamara owes the rest of the team more than the dinner he has to buy them for his sending off. You could not pick 2 bigger basket cases than the Blades and Untied to play over Xmas. Our set piece routines baffled United twice. But we were not chasing a 3rd like Liverpool or even Bournemouth currently. Yet in the absence of Torres and Kamara we constructed nothing through midfield, so
in the second half Watkins and Luis went minutes without a mention.
Every time Untied scored we woke up for a minute . As has been said that was the Xmas Ghost of the old Villa – always appears on 26/12. But if we don’t get the first choice defenders back soon we will be coming down with the Christmas decorations.
Absolutely unbelievable how we tossed that away. A Gerrard Villa performance as opposed to an Emery one.
Smacked of complacency that we stopped playing at 2-0 up. Hard fought points gained against Bournemouth, Brentford and SheffU thrown away tonight.
If you need a lift, play the Villa.
Calm down lads, how far we have come in 12 months?
From relegation candidates to top 3 -4?
Get a grip people, Rome wasn’t built in a day!
We should be grateful for the work done not whining FFS.
Who’d have seen us beating Man City and Arsenal?
Come on one bad day at the office and we are are all up in arms?
Time for a reality check me thinks.
RSS Couldn’t agree more. Just about every PL team has had a wobble or two this season yet we’re still third and 8 points ahead of sixth place (top 5 may well go into the CL this season). What would we all have given at the start of the season for that?
And let’s face it, if we are going to have a wobble, now’s the time to have it as we can soon bring fresh players in.
There was definitely an element of complacency, in my opinion. Agree with that, Stevie. It was as if all the stats and records prematch gave them a false sense of invincibility. At 2-0, it was like they felt ‘we can’t lose this.’ When manure’s first goal was disallowed, even I believed it. Massive leson. If you don’t put a shift in and graft, you’ll get f*** all in this league. I hope the lesson has been learnt and all the festivities (food and drink included) are out of their system!
Success brings a greed for more success and defeats get harder to take!
Don’t know why losing to ManU is so hard to take; we’ve had enough practice over the years 🙂
But it’s not the losing – it’s the performance that’s so poor and we just know how the media will react.
Emery will be less than happy with that and more than happy defusing title race talk. We all need to get our feet firmly back on the ground.
Reset and focus on Burnley.
Hitch did Confucius say that ? Wise words Hitch .
Not to my knowledge Bill but thank you for the kind response.
It was probably the combination of wine and whisky that motivated the little grey cells 🙂
I see, mine been Brandy and whiskey never taken to wine , will have to calm it down as doctors orders , problem Hitch Villa not helping me with giving away two goal leads .
