The Okore news is an absolute disaster..

He could have become something special.. and this is a huge set back for the lad..

Now we are left with the injury prone Vlaar and Baker and the shirt pulling Clark..!

    Crazy!

I have to feel sorry for the lad. He has struggled with minor injuries since signing and this latest set back is a huge blow for him personally but the club as a whole. Let’s just hope Baker returns soon and is able to string together a number of games.

Coverage wise I have some worries – Vlaar, Baker, Clark, Herd, maybe Lowton? Not ideal at all.

Bloody disaster. Just as Vlaar was starting to improve too.

You know how you put butter on cats’ paws to stop them running away? Would that work on Clark’s hands? He was at it again on Saturday, he really needs to stop the hugging and shirt pulling.

He’s looked miles better recently though, hopefully he can keep it up, although with Baker injury prone I wonder if Donacien is going to see some first team action this season? Another baptism of fire on the cards.

Complete and utter disaster. The only summer signing so far that has looked anywhere near PL quality.
Basically we are now left with the woeful defence that contributed to our appalling record last season. Vlaar, Clark and Baker are all not good enough.
Sadly, I think we’re going to go the whole calendar year 2013 without keeping a single clean sheet.

With Vlaar and Baker both injury prone, we could end up with a centre back partnership of Clark and Herd/Lowton at some point. Doesn’t bear thinking about how weak that would be. Rotten luck that this happened first game after the window closed.

Clean sheets start with the Keeper which explains why we never keep one irrespective of who is in the back four. We use the word Guzan as shorthand in our Sunday league to describe a keeper who punches balls he should catch directly to an opponent. Anyone see Jaskalainen shut out Southampton yesterday? No more need be said.

Sorry mate, it aint Guzan’s fault that we cant keep a clean sheet. We concede because a) we give the ball away for fun b) our midfield doesnt give great cover for the back 4 c) Our back 4 all have a tendency to switch off and leave their men.

We needed another striker, Weimann can play there but I doubt Lerner would let him and Gabby’s not good enough up front. Helenius doesn’t want to play up front. But I agree, a few of the first team that were put in shouldn’t have been as they’d never see game time (feel like a broken record right now). Barry would have been great. Shawcross, maybe. While a lot of times we do clear it to Benteke, Shawcross can’t pass it around if we ever felt like playing that way again. But there were a fair few CB’s we should have gone for.

Barry on loan and shawcross signed if that happened I really think we could achieve around 8th this season. That’s the difference they would of made IMO. We would have had a strong spine down the middle with shawcross ch Barry cm and Benteke cf. if you look at teams like Chelsea they have been strong down the middle with terry, Lampard and drogba. When those 3 played well not many teams beat them no matter who else was playing for them.

Neither do they buy into this constantly flirting with relegation – mid table mediocrity at best.

But iv also been there in the old third division and they were fantastic days IMO beating the great utd of Carlton best and law at vp was unreal in front of 60,000 ffs. Even in the third div there was more optimism than now. The atmosphere at vp in the old 3rd and second div was electric. Remember when we beat Sunderland at home last game of season 2.0 in second div 58,000 atmosphere was electric though tbf Sunderland must have bought at least 15-20k as they had to win to get promoted. Those were the days sick of these cold corporate stadiums with fuck all atmosphere.

The Anti need their head examined if they think we should be challenging with the likes of Utd, City and Chelsea, in fact you can put Arsenal and Spurs in too.

The Pro need to accept that things still aren’t right and accept that Lambert made a huge cock up not signing a center half or an experienced midfielder before the window closed.

You’re right, none of us are king and we all make mistakes. While I’m not on the pathetic we’re going to get relegated bandwagon, we as fans are also not in the position to cost Villa millions upon millions when a midfielder or a center half would have probably given us a position where we could finish say 10th, and now we could finish say 14th. That right there’s 3m, not too mention if Villa did get relegated, then it’s a huge loss. We aren’t in the position to have that big of an impact compared to Lambert who can’t make some monumental mistakes. Especially as he shouldn’t be including players in the 25 man squad he’ll never play. 2 players like Stieber and Stevens should never be put in the squad as they won’t see a game and we could have had room for a free agent or two.

Sorry Bill, what i mean’t was, there are two fractions on this site, the negative and the positive, a few of you sit in the middle of this which is where i tend to be, i’m not happy with the fact we didn’t address two major team concerns before the deadline.

I am however happy that our squad, whichever way you look at it, is an improvement on last year although you probably won’t see it until the second half of the season, unfortunately we could be deep in the mire by then.

Couple that with the fact we are 3 points and 10 goals better off than the corresponding fixtures last year and i’d say it’s not time to hit the panic button just yet.

Saturday hit me hard too, was an awful day from beginning to end for a lot of reasons and the only ray of sunshine on a shit day would have been three points, i’m still gutted.

To be honest, i think both Lambert and Lerner were responsible for not bringing Barry back, i think for both the reasons you stated, which in my opinion is taking the cost cutting far too far. Again we have the same worries as last season, it seems we haven’t learnt from our mistakes in the transfer market which, as time proves, always comes back to haunt us in the end.

The need for experience right down the middle is a necessity in the modern game and we are once again playing with fire.

And i still can’t work out the Kozak signing, i mean, Helenius looks just as good if not better, that £7m should have been spent on a good center half.

That said, i still believe we have a better squad than last year, as results and even performances have so far proved whichever way you look at it. I believe we will finish higher than last season but only marginally.

However, had we loaned Barry and bought in say Lescott (Yes, Lescott) i think we’d have been a lot more comfortable.

I’m pretty fucked off to be honest, however, i’m not going to constantly whinge about it, we are a great club with a nice history and we’ll have to ride this out until we either:

            a) strike gold in the transfer market with 3 or 4 absolute gems (unlikely)
            b) get sold to a billionaire.

Until then it’s going to be an absolute rollercoaster i think.

Lescott and Barry would have fitted the bill perfectly, both good pro’s one an ex Villian and the other a boyhood fan what more could you ask for?

A position between 8th and 13th I’d say is a good start. Then next summer the rest of the bomb squad is gone, hopefully and we can see real improvement. Then bring through the likes of Stieber, give Stevens 1 more try, Think someone should tell Lambert and Lerner Gardner’s contract’s up next summer. Albrighton and Herd wouldn’t be a big miss as they’re the only other two I know of, but we can’t let Gardner go. We have a lot of young talents, probably as good as the highly rated ones at United and Liverpool, but we’re not in a position to play them as we can’t make up for the lack of experience. Hopefully he’s smart enough even in January to remove 2 of the first team members in the 25 man squad and buy a couple more.
