Jores Okore has ruptured his ACL and is out for 9 months. This was Tweeted out by Matt Kendrick and it’s a major blow for Aston Villa and the young defender. This means he will miss out on this season of Premier League football. Okore obtained the injury when he chased a long-ball towards Remy.
Curtis Davies also obtained a similar injury during his time at Aston Villa and when he returned he had lost a bit of his pace. Still I wish Okore the best and I hope he’ll have a swift recovery. Okore will undergo an operation.
This definitely affects Aston Villa negatively, Villa again only have 3 centre-backs with Vlaar, Clark and Baker. However this season Clark and Baker have also endured injuries so defence may be another area of worry for Aston Villa this season. Will Lambert sign a new centre-back? Hopefully one on loan and very experienced, Lescott is looking more likely.
The Okore news is an absolute disaster..
He could have become something special.. and this is a huge set back for the lad..
Now we are left with the injury prone Vlaar and Baker and the shirt pulling Clark..!
Have we even had a game yet where a CB hasn’t gone off injured? Seriously?
Don’t think we have though they are all shit except Okore he was the only one we just didn’t need to be injured especially the whole season Ffs
Meh, I’m comfortable seeing any of the other 3 playing, though it’s a huge blow. The other 3 are far from shit.
Crazy!
I have to feel sorry for the lad. He has struggled with minor injuries since signing and this latest set back is a huge blow for him personally but the club as a whole. Let’s just hope Baker returns soon and is able to string together a number of games.
Coverage wise I have some worries – Vlaar, Baker, Clark, Herd, maybe Lowton? Not ideal at all.
Night fuckin mare big fuckin time fuck sake man
Fucking took the fuckin words out of my fuckin mouth jay dee! Fuckin nightmare
Yippee ey eh yippee ey ooooooh
Also the injury happened inside 30 MINUTES of our first action since the transfer window shut.. meaning there’s nowt we can do..
Looks like our luck isn’t in this season…
Come on Clarkee boy take your chance son and you Baker son Gu on the lads
Bloody disaster. Just as Vlaar was starting to improve too.
You know how you put butter on cats’ paws to stop them running away? Would that work on Clark’s hands? He was at it again on Saturday, he really needs to stop the hugging and shirt pulling.
He’s looked miles better recently though, hopefully he can keep it up, although with Baker injury prone I wonder if Donacien is going to see some first team action this season? Another baptism of fire on the cards.
Terrible new about Jores Okore hope the lad a speedy and full recovery.
Talking about the Villa youngsters why don’t Lambert give Gardner a run? The lad needs games if he is ever to fulfill his potential and God how we need a decent creative midfield player.
I do like Gardner good player
Complete and utter disaster. The only summer signing so far that has looked anywhere near PL quality.
Basically we are now left with the woeful defence that contributed to our appalling record last season. Vlaar, Clark and Baker are all not good enough.
Sadly, I think we’re going to go the whole calendar year 2013 without keeping a single clean sheet.
Fuckin typical only just heard no wonder Chelsea didn’t want him injury prone. Wev all been going on how we need another ch if only we went for Barry instead if kozac as he can play ch to. Gutted he is out like u say our only decent defender. We’re going down
I know you will disagree but Vlaar and Clark looked like they clicked on Saturday.I think we need 4-4-2 and have cover for our full backs and we might be ok pal UTV
Chelsea didn’t want him because he’s injury prone?
You were praising him a few weeks back for signing for us and wanting first team football rather than sit on Chelsea’s bench.
Turned on your golden boy already, brilliant.
You are just as bad as Terry.
Up to Clark and Baker to give it the big un
Donacien might get a chance to step up then?
With Vlaar and Baker both injury prone, we could end up with a centre back partnership of Clark and Herd/Lowton at some point. Doesn’t bear thinking about how weak that would be. Rotten luck that this happened first game after the window closed.
Donacien is a squad member Richie
Also have Josh Webb
Donacien hasn’t even been out on loan anywhere yet. There is no way he is ready to play for the first team. The last thing the young lad needs is to have his confidence dented by playing with the rest of our very poor defence.
Good point but don’t think we make that decision mate Hes already in the first team squad UTV
Absolutely gutted!!! Why does this always seems to happen to us? Flashbacks of Luc Nilis (but hopefully this one won’t be a career ender)!
Looks like Kozac might be playing centre half now!
With helenius!
Seems like you got your favourite pairing of Vlaar and Clark mate Up The Villa
Why the fuck couldn’t vlaar or kea be out for 9 months bloody typical
Just hope benteke dosnt get injured or we will be truely fucked
Put Clark or Vlaar upfront mate
Great news, this will give the Vlaar/Clarke partnership valuable playing time together. They both deserve a chance to fulfil there potential. It will surely prosper into the making of a solid pairing.
They looked ok against Newcastle wonder if anyone else thinks this?UTV
They looked pretty decent every time they played together, but it’s far from great news.
Okore is unfortunate for himself and AVFC but it is now past changing so have to look to the season without him
And what happens if one if them get injured. Wasn’t exactly the best partnership in the prem last year was it. Not one clean sheet
But how much can you blame them? No DM, you claim the fullbacks are shit so what more can they do?
They can defend properly for a start. Nothing to do with not having a dm when Lowton let their player walk past him for first goal.
Fucks sake. The one player (bar Benteke) that we did not need getting injured. We now have to buy a centre back in January…and not one from div one.
Agreed the only decent lambert signing this summer
Clean sheets start with the Keeper which explains why we never keep one irrespective of who is in the back four. We use the word Guzan as shorthand in our Sunday league to describe a keeper who punches balls he should catch directly to an opponent. Anyone see Jaskalainen shut out Southampton yesterday? No more need be said.
Disagree very rarely has Guzan been at fault for goals conceded he has kept us in games numerous times. I suppose he was responsible for all 8 goals v Chelsea then !
Sorry mate, it aint Guzan’s fault that we cant keep a clean sheet. We concede because a) we give the ball away for fun b) our midfield doesnt give great cover for the back 4 c) Our back 4 all have a tendency to switch off and leave their men.
Should of signed Shawcross
I said that all summer and everyone laughed. I agree he would if been good captain to. Should def have gone for Barry he can play dm and ch but instead. Lamberk signed kojak
We needed another striker, Weimann can play there but I doubt Lerner would let him and Gabby’s not good enough up front. Helenius doesn’t want to play up front. But I agree, a few of the first team that were put in shouldn’t have been as they’d never see game time (feel like a broken record right now). Barry would have been great. Shawcross, maybe. While a lot of times we do clear it to Benteke, Shawcross can’t pass it around if we ever felt like playing that way again. But there were a fair few CB’s we should have gone for.
Barry on loan and shawcross signed if that happened I really think we could achieve around 8th this season. That’s the difference they would of made IMO. We would have had a strong spine down the middle with shawcross ch Barry cm and Benteke cf. if you look at teams like Chelsea they have been strong down the middle with terry, Lampard and drogba. When those 3 played well not many teams beat them no matter who else was playing for them.
Its down to wages Oohah ,his policy not to go over £30-40 grand, Barry would have wanted more, Yes I know what your thinking at some stage it has to be given to a person with quality, but he is stubbornly in his thinking and its at our cost.the thing is will he make us or break us.?
High Bill, watching MOTD and how good was Barry? What the fuck was Lambert thinking when he spurned the opportunity to have him (Barry) back at VP? What a difference he would have made to our midfield, none of our present lot have anywhere have anywhere near his class.
Hi Bill, yes a golden chance , I remember the day he first kicked a ball for us, he was slow on the turn but after a while he got better and better, Bill I think that Lambert is stubborn he had that chance but because Barry had been at the top he would not like a player to proove him wrong in his methods of building a young team from scratch, his way might hurt us one day.
Bill there appears to be a massive division between the pro and anti Lerner camps.
The anti feel Villa should be up there challenging for honours and don’t buy into this austerity living with in your means propaganda (Lets be honest when have Man U, Chelsea or Man City ever lived with in their means?) Neither do they buy into this constantly flirting with relegation – mid table mediocrity at best.
The pro – well they appear to be happy with any scraps that might fall from the table and servicing Randy’s debt.
Who cares the most?
I know what your saying, I now think that we have seen the good days Bill , I cannot see me being at Wembley again, or any European games again, I’m one of the lucky ones that have, I feel that people for their money are being taken for a ride on other peoples dreams, you know I was at Villa for 20 years and flown with the team to italy, I can only have memories now.
Me too iv seen us win the league and EC. But iv also been there in the old third division and they were fantastic days IMO beating the great utd of Carlton best and law at vp was unreal in front of 60,000 ffs. Even in the third div there was more optimism than now. The atmosphere at vp in the old 3rd and second div was electric. Remember when we beat Sunderland at home last game of season 2.0 in second div 58,000 atmosphere was electric though tbf Sunderland must have bought at least 15-20k as they had to win to get promoted. Those were the days sick of these cold corporate stadiums with fuck all atmosphere.
The Anti need their head examined if they think we should be challenging with the likes of Utd, City and Chelsea, in fact you can put Arsenal and Spurs in too.
The Pro need to accept that things still aren’t right and accept that Lambert made a huge cock up not signing a center half or an experienced midfielder before the window closed.
Non of you are king.
Quest, not quite sure what you mean in anti and pro, as far as I’m concern its getting things right, do we sit it out saying nothing? I’m all for change, its making daft decision that gets to me, we all knew a CB was needed, plus a hard midfield working player, did we get them, no you see it I see it, why the hell don’t he.
You’re right, none of us are king and we all make mistakes. While I’m not on the pathetic we’re going to get relegated bandwagon, we as fans are also not in the position to cost Villa millions upon millions when a midfielder or a center half would have probably given us a position where we could finish say 10th, and now we could finish say 14th. That right there’s 3m, not too mention if Villa did get relegated, then it’s a huge loss. We aren’t in the position to have that big of an impact compared to Lambert who can’t make some monumental mistakes. Especially as he shouldn’t be including players in the 25 man squad he’ll never play. 2 players like Stieber and Stevens should never be put in the squad as they won’t see a game and we could have had room for a free agent or two.
Sorry Bill, what i mean’t was, there are two fractions on this site, the negative and the positive, a few of you sit in the middle of this which is where i tend to be, i’m not happy with the fact we didn’t address two major team concerns before the deadline.
I am however happy that our squad, whichever way you look at it, is an improvement on last year although you probably won’t see it until the second half of the season, unfortunately we could be deep in the mire by then.
Couple that with the fact we are 3 points and 10 goals better off than the corresponding fixtures last year and i’d say it’s not time to hit the panic button just yet.
There is no doubt in my mind that we should be up there at least challenging for top 4 as an absolute minimum. It’s appalling how posters on here are happy with 4th from bottom and a semi final v the mighty Bradford that we couldn’t beat over 2 legs ffs
Yes of course, you are absolutely right, we should be up there challenging, how silly of me to use reasoning and common sense, must remember to leave that at home the next time i come on here.
Nobody is happy with 4th from bottom.
Guest, got what your saying, I’m still on Lamberts side in breaking the wage and agents , but pissed of over not seeing problems like we have, he even don’t have a full coaching staff, wonder why the likes of Gordon Cowens is not more involved he’s worked wonders for the reserves, it seems shoe string employment to me, we need to get a defensive coach.
How can we spend 20k re week on a player yet not spend 30 odd k a year on a defensive coach. Talk about penny wise pound foolish!!
Totally agree Bill.
For me the biggest disappointment was not bringing in another decent center half and someone like Barry in the middle, instead of splashing out £7m on another striker, the mind boggles.
However, it’s all good saying “Lambert and Lerner out” but in reality, who would take over?
Lamberk is like MON but without spending big wages and has gone too far the other way. He is stubborn and shortsighted like MON and only has a counter attacking game. There is no good use of subs like MON no tactical nous like MON and no plan b like MON. Lambert is a joke
Guest maybe I over reacted to Saturdays performance, who knows as poor as they were Gabby takes that chance and we could have undeservedly walked away with 3 points and for the record I sincerely hope Lambert achieves great things a VP but here’s a question – who do you think was responsible for not bringing Barry back to VP? Lambert (just didn’t rate him) or Lerner (wouldn’t pay the wages)?
Probably both
Oohah, I remember Denis Law run the full length of the pitch and kick one of our guys on the floor, he was a sod playing the game was Law, cannot remember the game and player, think we drawed 4-4 or 3-3, you might remember?
Vaguely proberly just before my time lol
Saturday hit me hard too, was an awful day from beginning to end for a lot of reasons and the only ray of sunshine on a shit day would have been three points, i’m still gutted.
To be honest, i think both Lambert and Lerner were responsible for not bringing Barry back, i think for both the reasons you stated, which in my opinion is taking the cost cutting far too far. Again we have the same worries as last season, it seems we haven’t learnt from our mistakes in the transfer market which, as time proves, always comes back to haunt us in the end.
The need for experience right down the middle is a necessity in the modern game and we are once again playing with fire.
And i still can’t work out the Kozak signing, i mean, Helenius looks just as good if not better, that £7m should have been spent on a good center half.
That said, i still believe we have a better squad than last year, as results and even performances have so far proved whichever way you look at it. I believe we will finish higher than last season but only marginally.
However, had we loaned Barry and bought in say Lescott (Yes, Lescott) i think we’d have been a lot more comfortable.
I’m pretty fucked off to be honest, however, i’m not going to constantly whinge about it, we are a great club with a nice history and we’ll have to ride this out until we either:
a) strike gold in the transfer market with 3 or 4 absolute gems (unlikely)
b) get sold to a billionaire.
Until then it’s going to be an absolute rollercoaster i think.
Lescott and Barry would have fitted the bill perfectly, both good pro’s one an ex Villian and the other a boyhood fan what more could you ask for?
Kojak the only thing that adds up to me is Benteke’s off come Jan but who knows?
As you say this seasons going to be one hell of a ride (again).
Lambert ready to pick the kids up again lol it’s becoming a regular comment that.Im all for giving someone a chance tp prove themselves in respect with the tools they have ie Lamberts tools the young squad. But he really needs to sort us out at home and away.Im not lowering my expectations for what I think AVFC should be challenging for.Semi final or final of the cup and European football. This is what I believe AVFC should be doing.
It is early days so lets see what happens by Xmas UTV
A position between 8th and 13th I’d say is a good start. Then next summer the rest of the bomb squad is gone, hopefully and we can see real improvement. Then bring through the likes of Stieber, give Stevens 1 more try, Think someone should tell Lambert and Lerner Gardner’s contract’s up next summer. Albrighton and Herd wouldn’t be a big miss as they’re the only other two I know of, but we can’t let Gardner go. We have a lot of young talents, probably as good as the highly rated ones at United and Liverpool, but we’re not in a position to play them as we can’t make up for the lack of experience. Hopefully he’s smart enough even in January to remove 2 of the first team members in the 25 man squad and buy a couple more.
