Now that we’ve all but ensured our survival in the Premier league, I’ve got to thinking about what the future holds for us.
First off, as it’s the biggest story surrounding the club at the moment, has to be the rumoured takeover.
Is it going to actually happen?
I don’t have a clue and neither does anyone else, regardless of what comes out in the media.
There has been a lot of speculation though which has been fuelled by Randy Lerner’s somewhat puzzling statement that he’d address the issue when the season has ended.
My thoughts on that are that if he isn’t going to sell, he’d have come straight out and said so.
The fact that he didn’t surely means that there’s at least going to be an investor coming in, although I don’t see that as likely myself. It just doesn’t strike me as the way Lerner works.
So, with a takeover seeming most likely, you would hope that would mean a decent amount of investment.
Which leads us to the manager.
As an outsider looking in at the Villa with a view to buy the club, would you really want Paul Lambert to remain in charge?
I don’t think so. While you might want him from a financial point of view, what sort of message would retaining him send to the fans?
To my mind, it would send a message that says things stay pretty much as they are and that would surely be unacceptable.
While I’d maybe concede that the manager has done a decent job of working on a shoestring, I could also counter that he’s spent a lot of money on players who hadn’t a hope in hell’s chance of taking us to the level we require. Not yet, at least.
In Lambert’s defence, he has made a couple of decent signings in the likes of Benteke and Okore, but I think that most of us would say that his signings on the whole have been pretty poor.
Then again, I could say “well, what do you expect when you’re signing dirt cheap players on relatively dirt cheap wages?”.
I could debate with myself all day on this, but what sums it up for me comes down purely to the football itself.
And for the vast majority, it’s just been shocking. Never in all my years of supporting the Villa have I felt so bored watching us. And that surely can’t be right.
I can partly understand him taking a pragmatic approach, but I’m sorry, this is Aston Villa we’re talking about. While we don’t have a god given right to anything whatsoever, we’re at least entitled to watch an entertaining game. I don’t see Lambert bringing that to us.
He has to go, simply for that reason.
I’m going to add a poll asking the question here, as because even though this is known as a somewhat negative site, I’m wondering how many would be in favour of him staying. Not many, I suspect, but we’ll no doubt see.
So, on the assumption that the manager leaves, who will come in to replace him?
I don’t have a clue here, same as most of us and the subject has been done to death.
But surely with a new owner coming in, he’d want to create a good impression wouldn’t he?
Which would have to mean a decent manager. By that I mean someone who has achieved at a higher level than Paul Lambert. And no doubt someone who would want a sizeable pot of money for new players.
Which leads us nicely on to the current squad.
Who would we keep?
Off the top of my head, I’d be looking to keep Guzan, Benteke, Delph, Wiemann, Bacuna, Vlaar, Albrighton and possibly Gabby. I might have missed one or two others, but the point is that I don’t really feel I’ve seen much in the rest of the squad that can take us to a higher level.
I might be a bit unfair in saying that, as I’ve just excluded many of our “up and coming” youngsters.
But I have the attitude that I want players that can achieve immediately, not sometime in the future.
We’ve tried the young and hungry approach and it simply hasn’t worked. And anyway, I’m totally fed up with the “jam tomorrow” attitude.
While we supposedly have a very good academy when it comes to players going on to play for other clubs, albeit at a lower level, we’ve never really produced any top notch players have we? You can cite the odd example, like Cahill, but the likes of him are few and far between.
No, the academy is unfortunately not the answer if we’re to actually achieve anything substantial, anytime soon.
Which leads us to expectations and mine are not really very high.
I want us to be challenging for a top 6 place and I don’t believe that’s unreasonable in the slightest. While the top 4 would be nice, I think that’s probably unrealistic, I’m afraid.
We can but hope, I guess.
I couldn’t end without saying something about the CEO.
Paul Faulkner also has to go too. While he might be good from a financial perspective, it’s apparent that he isn’t the footballing man that we need to run the football side of things.
So should we get a director of football to replace him?
I’m not sure, but we definitely need someone who knows about the game amongst the new hierarchy.
So, pretty much a clearout is on the cards then, in my opinion.
Which could lead to some very interesting times.
Here’s hoping that whatever happens, we can move forward with some signs of ambition and renewed belief for next season.
UP THE VILLA!
Blimey, the poll is showing 50/50 at the moment.
I’m shocked!
It ain’t no more. 😀
probably lamberks relatives voting! Though on social media it seems 50.50 whether fans want him. However before the Hull game it was probably 80-20 against Lambert. This is my fear we have one win v a poor team who played poorly and had their mind on the final and all of a sudden Lamberk is the new Messiah. Basically badger if thats what people want then no wonder Lerner has got away with murder. Those people cannot moan when we are in the same position next year
In fairness ooh ahh the moaning isn’t coming from lambert’s supporters! Not sure how you managed to twist that logic around
Also the notion that anyone would hail lambert as a messiah for a solitary win against hull is pretty lame! Same old rhetoric!
What we do without you!
Lol I exaggerate slightly but a lot of supporters have been taken in by one result and all of a sudden lamberts not that bad after all!! As for the £20m all I’m saying is another manager would of signed 3-4 half decent quality players instead of lots of quantity dross. Someone like pullis would have done better with that squad and probably took us to where palace are
actually its 63% of fans want him to go now.
If we want to push on keep Benteke,Vlaar UTV
&Godzan
Once the new owner(s) are confirmed, I expect Lamberk to be dismissed with immediate effect, as a sign that mediocrity will not be tolerated under a new era. And this is what I think will happen, you don’t have to be good at reading body language to realise Lamberk is gone.
Next I want us to draw up a shortlist of Non-British managers. Obviously the quality and level of manager will depend on level of investment from the new owners. Still, I’d expect the likes of Tuchel, Yakin and De Boer to be under consideration regardless.
I’d echo the call for a strong CEO or director of football to help oversee the development of the club.
And after all that, we can finally start dismantling the poor squad we have now. For me only 3 or 4 players are worthy of continuing at Villa long term, although I understand we can’t revolutionise the squad in 1 window.
Agree with most of that- especially the director of football. I think even if don’t get major investment/ takeover etc. we need that long term direction and back bone there to get past manager coming and goings and hopefully help reduce the amount of goings (by helping to appoint better candidates in the first place)
personally i like 2 say this, without receiving hate mail 😛
lambert hasn’t done so bad. first of all his 2 seasons in charge, he was given a near impossible task, 2 keep us competitive to the previous season before he arrived, 2011~12 villa finished 16th with 38 points ~ so compared this to last year of 15th finish and 41points, this season sofar this of 14th position and 38 points.
this summer if lerner can find a buyer, then he owes lambert some, cos he gave lambert mission impossible, our wages were 8th highest before lambert came.i be interested 2 see wot this is now, looks like villa will be taken over, so villa fans need 2 start enjoying themselves. instead of moaning more. lambert will leave majority of takeovers always nearly replace managers, whether they were doing great or not.
another thing how much would villa have paid out on compensation from mon to lambert if he leaves before his last year. next manager needs to be allow time. villa need to carry on with similar policy, of younger players knitted with better experienced players. we have one of the best football ground & facilities set ups. produced youth players that usually make the break through more or less.
exciting times ahead, we all should enjoy them and always get behind the players, i was proud the way fans did back the players against hull. VTID
I would like to see Lambert gone now, with 2 games left and nothing to play for I would like to see a few youngsters being blooded in those games. But if Lambert is in charge you just know Grant Holt will start those games which will have no benefit for next year whatsoever! As for a takeover? I do think something is going to happen very soon and would be nice to get some GOOD young and experience players coming through the doors at VP for once and see 90% of the current squad gone…..
Lambert should go?…very tricky question IMO. I am in Nath’s camp on this one. (No hate mail from me Nath). Lets be honest, the bloke has had a shit deal from Lerner. I think to be fair to the bloke he should be afforded another six months with the backing of decent investment. Youcould argue that he has done well to keep us up given the financial constraints.
I say give him a minimum of 30 mil, give him to XMAS to prove his worth. If he fails, then get rid. I would like to give him a fair crack of the whip!
lmao 🙂 my sack is full
can i point out, about the fans moaning about home form. man utd, newcastle and hammers do av better squads than villa and they lost 7 8 9 games at home this season so far.
also mcliesh home record was only 4 league wins compare this with lamberts or points gained at home mcliesh 19 points and lambert 20 and 21
now i agree with langfordvilla hes right about allowing him until christmas with real backing, but i understand the other villa fans wanting him out.maybe a fresh start will be best new owners and manager
my rant is over lol
How muchdoyoudrink Nath?
I fully support this view point. New owners or not, I would still giving Lambert until Christmas. Given his latest comments to the press he knows the squad needs experience and top class players, but he can only do so much with the money he has been given. If the club can spend big this summer I think most supporters will go along with it too.
if lamberk stays it says that we are still going after cheap players. Lambert cannot manage bigger names even the chance to have Barry back scared him to death. In fact he is struggling to manage lesser players which is supposed to be his forte
This is all speculation. Lambert could have been begging the board for Barry too? We just don’t know, although given our injuries this season I doubt an aging Barry wouldn’t have helped us out much.
Personally, I am curious to see who he would bring in if he had more money, regardless if Lerner stays or not. Over the past few windows we have been linked with a wide range of players, some of those being quality names. If we can capture even two of them we’ll be a better side.
It’s not speculation on Ooha’s part Marvin.
He’s previously stated that he knows this for a fact and having met him, I see no reason to disbelieve him.
Thanks Badger I have heard it from an ex villa players from 80s still connected at the club. If I could say I would be not fair to give a name. If people don’t believe me it’s up to them.
You may be right, although I can only go off of what I remember reading and that was that Lambert stated he wasn’t interested, which could mean that Lambert himself was not interested and/or the board wouldn’t sanction the move.
Langford you are a lamberk apologist after all. Hes had £20m per season and struggled with that. An extra £10m wont turn him into a Mourinho or even a Pullis ffs
Shit finances = shit players = shit performances = shit league position = Lerner NOT Lambert…….I suspect thats a bit deep for your one-dimensional thinking oohah!……although its quite clear and simple to most! Sounds more like your a Lerner apologist!
Mate so you would be happy to give Lambert a third season in charge with dough to spend??I beg to differ, plan A didn’t work cheap young & Hungary so what are we in for with plan B? Just say that doesn’t work by xmas?sooner rid bring in New name New ideas imo.fresh start FUCK OFF the useless players freshen the squad up I say. 😉
Ps MATE what happened to not only LERNER OUT but LAMBERT OUT???
Giddy…I just happen to think that in terms of fairness that he deserves another 6 months with financial backing. Just look at the 3 relegated clubs mate…..they all spent far more than us and still couldnt stay up!
We spent 22m in 2013.
Fulham spent 12m.
Cardiff spent 39m.
Norwich spent 27m.
So you’re right on Cardiff spending far more, Norwich a little more and Fulham a hell of a lot less.
2012 we spent 26m.
Fulham spent 11.4m
Norwich spent 16m.
Cardiff spent 12m.
So about the time Lambert came, we’ve spent near 50m.
Cardiff spent a little over 50m.
Norwich spent 43m.
Fulham spent 23-24m.
So yeah, only Cardiff since Lambert’s come spent more than us, by 2m or so, So that’s a bit wrong that they’ve spent far more than us.
Andrew..yes, but you conveniently forget that Lerner wanted rid of all the high earners….the oters didnt!…..add to that the complete rebuilding of a team whilst the others, in the main kept all their experienced players. Not an easy job for Lambert! BTW all of the relegated teams panicked and changed their managers… we didnt and stayed up..I rest my case!
And I can just name Crystal Palace who did and saved themselves. Oh and Adams has only managed for Norwich since last month, so much the fault of their former garbage manager.
You’re right, they kept their experienced players… And are going down, so does that not show that they aren’t good enough for the most part? But you simply pointed out money, which was wrong. I’m sure most of these managers would have loved an overhaul of sorts.
So you named one (palace) and I named three!… lol ….. Thanks for admitting your wrong! 🙂 Not wrong about money mate….because of Lerner we had no choice but to buy quantity over quality!….hence our finally league position. But we DID stay up whilst those that sacked their managers went down…..simples! 🙂
You named 3, but as pointing out, Norwich sacked their manager in April. They were screwed anyways. So there goes 1 of the 3 out the window.
Fulham thought they should’ve been far better and probably mid-table, they had poor management and no striker who was firing. So yes, you’re right.
Cardiff more or less were last according to most fans. But you’re right, they sacked Malky who made a lot of poor signings, spent a ton of money and cried about wanting more money when they were failing. They spent more than us and Fulham put together. They had every right to sack him. Unfortunately it didn’t work out for OGS but he’s learning and Cardiff were favorites to go down so he could change their team around.
It’s never a given if it’ll work, with those 3. It worked for West Brom, Crystal Palace and Swansea though, so how that’s for 3? Laudrup looked lost and Monk’s come in and done very well and might even permanently get the job. So there’s 3. 🙂
We had to buy quantity over quality. Interesting. I didn’t realize we had to buy a lot of players, and then not play half of them because he doesn’t like them. Why buy so many players when they’re not gonna play? He spent a bit on Benteke and Kozak, why couldn’t he spend 5-6 or even 8-9m on a couple of players he’d play? We only know wages weren’t going to be high, but based on a few of the signings, we could/would spend a bit on players, and could’ve signed better on the same wages from “smaller” leagues, no?
Sorry Langford with Giddy and Oohah on that one ,Lambert made bad decisions on many matches, there’s no getting away from that, you know even the coaching staff was sacked for reasons of misdemeanors not yet highlighted to the fans, no he’s had his chance , I say he has to go.
I agree mate Lambert is an inept tactician broken some unwanted records whilst being in charge.we wanted McClulesses head & I think he did a better job possibly not the style of footy.
Liverpool fans in distress can call a new helpline 0845 30313233
You are absolutely right ooh ahh, lambert has had 20m yet he failed as a manager so when the new owners come in. They only need to give the ample 20m budget to the new manager and watch him thrive!
As you have pointed out if 20m was enough for lambert to succeed then surely it’s the same for any new manager.
Totally agree with you Langford/Nath. If he is going to get money to spend on a few quality players (and he knows this is what’s needed) and until Xmas that would be fair considering the constraints Lerner has put him under.
The signings should help address the style of play. That is crucial, but again I think Lambert has known this for some time.
New owners? Really not sure. I don’t know if there is room in the Premiership for another Man City or Chelsea style owner. If the owners are not in that bracket it’s hard to see the point (from an investors perspective). I agree Lambert would probably be shown the door if that happens.
It looks from Lambert’s comments that he expects to be on his way. If so, for all the negatives, he deserves some praise for doing as Lerner required and keeping our Premiership status.
This shit deal argument i dnt buy into. We lost to Bradford, Wigan, Sheffield Utd and Millwall none of these clubs have a dutch international centre half and one of the brightest prospects in the game. These clubs do not have anything remotely near bodymoor heath. If we had beaten these teams i would possibly listen to arguments for Lambert.
Lambert is not the man for Villa, i am not going to say he is an awful manager just an awful ne for us.
Are you saying premiership teams don’t lose to lower placed or lower division teams? Since when?
Also 2 of the premiership title chasing teams lost to us this season? By that logic should they be also classified a disgrace?
I think the point is we lost to 3 lower division teams in 2 seasons, probably another record we didn’t want to see. Losing to Bradford over 2 legs in a cup semi final was just embarrassing…
But would Lambert go for the right players? Lets say we got an owner willing to do a City. Hughes spent it on players no other City-since manager would, because he was out of his depth and is much better on a budget. Would he really go for the likes of Holtby, Chicharito who has little if anything to his game and would be terrible under the style of Lambert and Lescott? Or would he actually go for quality that we could use? The likes of Schar over Lescott, Gameiro or Bacca over Chicharito, Firmino or Scmid over Holtby.
It is all bull, it is only opinions drawn out by frustrations. And not expert knowlege of runing/managing football that is fueling foolish and childish snap decisions, some of what is being said may be true. Yes you have to sort the chaff from the wheat, but who would do that? Many of you would say get rid of him and him, but in a few years you would wish you had kept them!!! Be careful of what you wish for, and who you wish for. I have been so pissed and frustrated at times, but I would never show it to my kid’s. That would have set them back at school. So support them I did and now they have made me proud. The same rules apply in all life, don’t let the heart rule the head. That is my opinion and belief.
Made a few people think, and a few pissed no doubt, so what I’ve got other Villa thing to dream about.
UTV.
While I share Nath’s opinion that Lambert was given an awful task to start with, and then was very unlucky with injuries. I still think he deserves the sack.
1/ for bringing in two assistants who did nothing positive for points or morale, and who have been effectively sacked for some breach of their employment terms.
2/ for negligible tactical benefit from training showing up in performance. Training succeeded only in injuring at least two key players.
3/ for inept use of the fit players available – starting line ups and substitutions – as well as the purchase of players who did not make the bench of team at its most depleted.
4/ for his inability to speak intelligible English, or talk sense, in post match interviews.
I am not sure new owners would have 30 million just to blow on Lambert’s choices without that being a deduction from the next manager’s pot if Lambert is sacked at Xmas.
Dont forget all his unwanted records that hes given us either
Just got back from Filey Yorkshire at a football tournament for under 8s, been shitting bricks for news of the match at Villa park, glad to say phone calls every minute on game, 1/2 the grandkids team are Villa fans, have to say did the world of good for them knowing the score, they came third in the competition and won best fair play and best fair player, they played against teams from north and south of England, even Castle Vale team was in, beat them home and away. Lads we still need to get rid of them all at Villa , not another year of torment for us fans we need to be in competitions and pushing for Europe, we can only do that with a billionaire and not the likes of Lerner. Happy days boys.
Hi mate third ain’t bad atall, I was going to say fairplay to them but they’ve already won that.:-D
arnt you a bit old to be playing for under 8s Bill lol
Only 67 years Oohah, I need to slow down at my age. Giddy got pissed lastnight dancing with young birds not good for you, plus some twat put bread on my caravan roof and them blasted seagulls woke me up at 5 am.thousands of the bleeding things.
Ha ha
sure lambert did not major money to spend, but to then sign 3 left backs 5 strikers,to break record after record and still keep his job, comes out after match statements like cant fault lads we ll go again. LERNER is as guilty wasting money on mon sacking hiring houiller signing bent makoun for close to30 million what will he get back on that pair THEN paying BLUES for mcleish giving him close to20 million for given hutton zog jenas how many games did them last 6 play for villa paying off mcleish houiller often wonder can lerner even tie his own laces, faulkner as money man our kits plus sponsers are going downhill faster than the team
Completely pointless giving PL £30M or whatever to spend and then up to December to prove himself. New players would take time to bed in and 15 or so games is not enough to judge success or failure – and if he does fail that’s half a season and the transfer budget wasted.
I agree RW.
It’s either all or nothing, hence that’s why I think he’ll go.
Then again £30 mill really isn’t that much when you consider we’ll be getting that much extra from the telly deal every season.
I’m thinking £60 mill is a more expected figure from a new owner, which would get 5-7 or more very decent players who could genuinely improve the squad.
And I’m really not sure I’d trust Lambert to spend that sort of money, although in fairness he did find Benteke.
As for the poll, it seems to be holding around 25% support.
It’s surprising how more forgiving we seem to be now that we’ve survived.
And I thought this was supposed to be a negative site? 🙂
Its no good you saying he needs 60 million or 30 what about the cap on wages, good players won’t come unless we match other teams money. We have a long way to go yet first sort the club out with descent management and coaching staff.
Lambert has to go and Vlaar needs to be replaced as captain at the very least. After 2 years our defending is still shocking.
Everbody in the ground on Saturday except our defence new Huddlestone was going to pass to Rosenior for Hulls goal about 10 minutes before it happened. So what if he was a touch of offside. That sort of marking is inexcusable at any level never mind by so called professional footballers.
Also Lambert got lucky with Agbonlahor going off. I’m afraid I am a Weimann fan and have been brassed off most the season with him having to play out wide. Gabby going off meant he went to a more central roll and thrived on it. Just imagine what could have happened this season with him alongside Benteke instead of playing out of position.
Lambert out for a manager with some tactical nouse and replace Vlaar with a real on the pitch leader.
Moyes gets my vote for manager I’ve seen plenty of his Everton teams in the past rip us a apart at villa park. The old guard of players at Man Utd never gave him a chance.
Agree with everything you say except moyes as manager. If we still gave Lerner then yes pls to moyes under a new regime forget it. We need a forward thinking foreign manager who’s ambitious. Moyes is dull grey suited, no charisma and another MON forget it
Agreed, Moyes would be a decent stop-gap for like, 2 years, would make us arguably a top 10 side again, but then he’d want his own players and which we’d need someone a lot better than him to go further and would have to redevelop the side all over again.
I would rather wait until we know who will be running the club before I decide on Lambert. If we get a new sugar daddy then its inevitable that we will get a new manager and righty so. If Lerner stays I hope we keep Lambert because I feel that he may be able to persuade Lerner to invest more. If he sacks Lambert and gets a new yes man just glad of the chance to manage our great club it will be like starting all over again. We can change the manager as many times as we like but if there is no investment it will end in disaster no matter who it is. If we had moyes next year with our squad and wage constraints we could be relegated. Lambert could have had £50m to spend for all we know but if you cant meet the wage demands of good players is doesn’t matter. Paying the going rate for good players is the key and not the transfer fees. Maybe the players we have been linked with over the last few seasons have been targets for Lambert but wages were the issue. Maybe this is why we didn’t get Barry. So its all ifs and buts until we know were we stand with Randy Lerner. The single biggest regret Randy must have was giving O’Neill a free hand. Imagine it was your money !!
Tekkers…agree totally mate. There would be little point in changing manager if has to work under the same financial constraints. After all, Lambert has a proven track record of keeping us up on a shoestring. As you quite rightly say, new owners will almost certainly want a new manager. The problem at the club in the last 3 years has been Lerner and NOT Lambert IMO.
Not Lambert? Lerner has his faults, not so much a shoestring budget because 40m isn’t really a shoestring compared to the clubs below 7th, and wages are the biggest fault, but his tactical awareness of the players has been utterly terrible. Been completely garbage in fact and I’d go as far as think Cowans and Given were behind the players on Saturday over Lambert.
Langford that’s what I’ve said they all rabbit on about 60-30 million its not going to get a descent player if the wage is caped, there’s not a player that will walk into Villa Park with a big drop in wage, the club has to sort out a wage for experience, get off their arse make money with bums on seats, merchandise sold and the will to go for competition’s, no more saving pennies with cheap shit, go for gold.
Remember to start of with we would have to pay over the odds for top players to come to us and show intent.
What top players though? Most of the top players are already at clubs who are incredibly rich, pay huge wages to them. Are we going to pay even more than they are for their players? Unless we raid the likes of Dortmund who while do lose a couple players every season, have a lot of loyal players, we’re not getting top, top players right away.
Like we did with O’Neill when Lerner arrived. Problem with that OohAh is if new owner looses interest and doesn’t want to bank roll us we are shit apon again !!! We need to do as much off the pitch as on it to make us a big club again. Turnover needs to double to sustain that level of investment and wages. The sky money means nothing as its all relative as all clubs gain the same. At the current levels of turnover the best we can achieve is mid table average, top eight good year or relegation battle bad year and we have has our fill of those.
I want a sugar daddy and I want one now !!!!!!! Lol
Collymore’s supposedly going to be on Talk Sport to talk about Villa after he tweeted about Ellison. so… It’s possible.
Ellison real worth is only 1.5 billion as 95% of his wealth is in a charity trust. Only makes him slightly richer than Lerner in real terms
Ha ha I want a sugar daddy too. Basically if a new owner gets us to where man city are in 3-4 seasons then villa will start becoming a bigger name globally. The attendance at vp will be higher esp if we extend stadium and more merchandise will be sold not just at vp but worldwide. Imagine for example if we signed Messi hypothetically. Even if we won fuck all we would sell millions of Messi shirts worldwide, the glory hunters, Asia etc will start having a wank fest over us instead of utd etc. This is the point were we can be self funding and compete with the utds etc but we have to speculate to accumulate
Exactly Oohah. Its the only way we will ever get back to the top table. Who the fuck supported chelsea outside of london nevermind the rest of the country before Roman came to town. Villa best option is to compete with the big boys from the off and with our history and prestige we could be bigger than Arsenal and fill a sixty seater stadium every week. No more slowly slowly building. It will only get you so far. We need a sugar daddy to blow the rest out of the water and then see were it takes us.
Agreed Tekkers
And we’re linked to M’Bia and Vogt. I like em both, and Vogt wouldn’t be bad under even a sugar daddy, but neither are the type of players we should get if we’re trying to splurge and move up incredibly fast.
The Times today gave Gabby 7/10 (?!) in its match ratings for Saturday. Same paper gave Darren Bent 4/10 and Ashley Young 3/10…… wow must they have been bad.
I think they were referring to the next time statistically he might score. 7th October
Whoever the owner / manager new signings need to add depth to the squad and have a mixture of premiership experience, leadership and grit. There are loads of possibles available on frees in the summer – problem is the uncertainty over our future means we will probably miss out.
3 or 4 players in on frees would free up cash for some bigger signings and could push the wage limits as well as giving some alternatives in the squad – too many of this years 1-11 know they will play no matter what as there are no alternatives.
A few suggestions:
Bardsley Colback Pilkington Turner – anyone who went to Cardiff away will remember what he can do.
Whatever transfer budget we get could then go on 3 big deals for a goalscorer and number 10 and a defensive cm.
Nice joke Steve
what is with all the lambert apologists?! He is a terrible manager! He has taken us nowhere. We only survived because of how bsd the other teams are this season. We didnt even manage 40 points. We deserve to go down. Had Hull not been in the Cup final, who knows if we would have won this weekend!
We need change from top to bottom at the club. Hopefully this starts next week.
And Hull are below us mate despite spending approx 10 million more!
5ish million more actually, and that’s to upgrade a team that just got promoted. But again… Okay. Lambert still needs to go.
If a new owner is bought in then the new owner will want to go for it I reckon just like Lerner did.So saying that the wage structure I reckon will be different. We might be having new investors to co own with Lerner which will give a cash boost to the club and then again the wage structure should be different. If the unthinkable happens and nothing changes I will just not bother going to VP…..UTV
Brilliant post badger but answers to all the questions you pose? Well who knows?
What I think will be a stone wall certainty is new owner – new manager but hey oh it’ll all pan out in due course.
won’t be popular but Hoddle in please..time for a coach who plays football with GT on the board.
So how many do we need to win by to stop Citeh winning the title 🙂
Just have to beat them and then Liverpool have to beat Newcastle and they win.
I think it will be a draw v city think we will do well there tbh
9-0 simples.
