While of course I’m chuffed that we won, so I also feel quite sorry for Sunderland.
I’m sure that I’m not alone in thinking that if things had carried on the way they were, it could very well have been us that suffered relegation from the Premier league, followed by relegation to league one.
And it seems to me that that’s where Sunderland are heading.
Sunderland offered nothing and it reminded me totally of us when we went down.
Everything they tried didn’t work. They only really offered one option, which was to try the counter. They weren’t very good at that either.
And then they simply weren’t good enough at all.
Add to that, the “we’ve seen this all before” type attitude, which leads to them mentally rolling over and that was us all over.
I’m not sure what to think about today’s performance.
Yes, the result was pretty emphatic, but I didn’t see anything special or particularly good.
Don’t get me wrong. We did enough to justify the result and it’s hard to be critical, but it’s just difficult to judge against such poor opposition.
Man of the match was Snodgrass, as I felt he drove us forward the most.
I like the look of Grabban. He seems an intelligent player.
Adomah tried hard in what was a decent return performance.
And Grealish made an appearance, with a couple of decent runs and one decent shot.
It’s all good.
Which is just as well, seeing as the rest of the top six won too.
We’ve gained on Wolves, albeit maybe temporarily, but the match against them is beginning to look very, very tasty.
Onwards and hopefully upwards, eh?
i have a new plan. lol
watching wolves attack then they cant help themselves both wing backs go forward i mean right up high. that means they have up to 5 players inside box and around. so the only chance is to catch them on the break. it will be a taxing game plan. very stretched. wolves are a very good team, thats the best i can come up with. will be interesting to see if sb and his coaches can do better
Full time Nath’s Wolves w@^k fest over!!!
any ideas for tactics lol sb might need your help
Only way in my mind is attack attack, if your busy defending it mentality upsets individual players, if you Allow them to hit you game over.it’s going to be interesting on Saturday.
Well, after glancing through Nath’s live reporting it seems we better hope we don’t get promoted!
I’m getting worried as well Hitch, I was so confident up to the scrums game but going down hill fast on posters assumptions,
Our form is 9 wins and a draw out of 11 games, 28 pts from 33, do that again and we have another 28 pts from our remaining games and we will have 94 points – more than enough. Time to hold our nerve!
Like your style Owen.
My comment about promotion was meant to be ‘tongue in cheek’ following Nath’s early concession of Saturday’s game. Yes Wolves are a very good side (on present form Leeds are not) but there are a lot of very good sides in the Prem – if we are serious about promotion then we need to be truly competitive on Saturday.
UTV
Usually need 90 to go up so – Wolves is a draw, QPR win, Bolton win, Hull win, Norwich win, Cardiff draw, Leeds win, Ipswich win, Derby win, Millwall win. Forgot about Reading, win! Again that would put us on over 90 points. Only Villa fans would be negative about winning 9 from 11! Believe!

Aston Villa chief Keith Wyness stirs up controversy over Wolves Jorge Mendes links
By Russell Youll | Wolves | Published: 3 hours ago
Villa chief executive Keith Wyness has stoked up controversy surrounding the Wolves-Jorge Mendes links – tweeting a link to a story about the sacking of Paul Lambert hours before an EFL board meeting today.

wolves are better than probably half of the premiership as it stands with this season squad they have. villa will have to play very good just to be able to compete, no need to be a wanker over this its just my opinion and looking around many more agree. some fans say it was only leeds. but leeds did everything they could and probably will be the same tactics we will try to do. wolves just took what leed threw at them and where their most dangerous when leeds tried to attack them.
also pre season i didn’t think wolves would be any threat. their manager has done a tremendous job, they have some how got a system to suit the players they have. each player is not only mobile, but well adapted to play their position and those around them.they are always interchanging positions, they are in my opinion 2 or 3 goals better than us.
did hitch actually see the game or is he just taking the piss out of my opinions without seeing shit. they play football again in my opinion like we can only dream of playing. kind of stuff we havent played since probably little was in charge beating leeds 3 nil at wembley. it also took the man city manager 2 seasons to get his ideas across for them to play his total football.
No I didn’t see the game and maybe I was ‘taking the piss’ in a very mild way – you did go over the top a little – but isn’t that part and parcel of good natured banter? Notwithstanding if you feel my comments were offensive in some way then I apologise.
i also see bill says to attack 🙂 well thats all fine and dandy. leeds did attack or try to. first you need to get the ball off them. once they made you work for the ball, they they also work you with it. we struggled to pass the ball against sunderland first 30 mins. giving away possession cheaply.
i finished my wanking over them. i am gonna be interested to see how we approach the game. adomah and sndgrass will spend more time chasing shadows than chasing them trouble. just the amount of work rate the two wingbacks do is enough to wank over,
Not over Nath till the fat lady sings Sheffield utd, QPR, beat Wolves, been 0-0 draws, with 4 teams Beat Birmingham by 1 goal, we have come along way over the months, I can understand why Bruce has been a bit thoughtful with some player, don’t write the Villa off on Wolves game Nath.
i am not writing us off or sulking ripping my teddies arms and legs off. i love the fact we will play wolves. but i am not deluded to the fact we are not on their level. i said i couldnt see way for us to win. but we have sb he will come up with a plan. won’t he. all teams will play better teams and win. david slayed goliath didn’t he. we just need plenty rocks and a sling
Sorry Nath – can’t help myself – double negative means you are deluded into thinking we are on their level. Sorry mate just pulling your leg!
I’ve already posted (in response to Owen) that I see our performance on Saturday as defining how far we have come as a team.
i see the result also as defining. lets not be kidding. hurts to say but they are the team to beat in this division. i had hoped they had fallen off some. but the leeds game showed me they are on the boil and was missing their star man.
if villa beat them it will be a great performance and it will mean we are a team able to match the top boys again. we have fallen some way down the pecking and its too hard work to get us back on track. but i think hard work wont win us the game. i think we will need to show more . like skill and lots of movement.
its why we love football games like this
It’s ok Nath , I thought you was on them magic mushrooms, Saturday will see if we are in with a shout, remember we’ve had some injuries over the months, and I know Jack will be up for it. I’m looking forwards as well I think we will give them a game.
I am – you are – we are – crazy !
Hey Pete you gotta meet the Pot Head Pixies
its a game of football bill and its a game of opinions. i watched wolves and villa if both play to the best it has only one winner. football has little battles all over the pitch. each player needs to win against their man. looking around i see terry and chester being given a hell of a game. both lack that pace so we can’t press high like leeds or we will be countered just like they did.
both adomah and snodgrass will struggle because they will have to mark their wingbacks and they are hard working players that spend all game up and down always offering width.
i watched them and imagined our game on theirs and we would need to do something different. otherwise we will struggle. i watched fulham against them and they moved the ball crisp and they kept the possession but they were direct with it. not possession for the sake off it. they always went looking to hurt them. can we play like fulham ????
Well hats off for getting a Gong reference on a football forum. Never seen that before.
Further to the growing comments on the Wolves / Mendes debate and with apologies for pasting from another blog site, I think most if yes would agree with the following:-
“Transparency
However, with the English football governing bodies issues with third party ownership of players and also FFP, it certainly needs some clarification and increased transparency would be welcome.
In the bigger picture, the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea have used overseas investment and *cough cough* creative accounting, pretty much unchecked by the English footballing bodies (judging by their recent courting of Qatar’s FA, it doesn’t seem the FA are too principled when it comes to pound signs).
It has now created an unbalanced status quo. How do clubs compete with the top four or six English teams who have such a financial advantage now, reinforced annually by Champions League payments?
Are Wolves simply trying a novel approach to be competitive in the future or are they indeed breaking EFL regulations?
Judging by the EFL’S rather lax fit and proper person ownership test, a further question is whether the EFL will simply be a paper tiger about it all?”
It’s very sad that football has now been hijacked by the gods of Mormon.
* duh -“most of us….”
Think you mean gods of Mammon Hitch
Oops you’r right DSV – can I blame it on spellcheck
Spellcheck it is!
It seems Hitch its wide spread, just heard Milan is now under investigation, just heard it on TV. What’s going on? you have the FA watch the likes of us and now it’s looking at over sea investments.
Bill – house of cards comes to mind. The money being paid to televise football and then within the game in terms of wages / transfer fees etc. is unsustainable. South Sea bubble; dot.com bubble; financial crash on the back of money chasing money with fraud thrown in for good measure and I give you the collapse of finances within football – it’s only a matter of time.
If it’s too good to be true then it probably is!
Imo we need to go in to the game against Wolves with a you score 3 we will score 4 attitude! Will make for a great game. Going defensive will give them all the time on the ball they need to pick the right pass. Get on the front foot and go for it. Nothing to lose all to gain.
Cardiff will more than likely beat Small Heath and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fulham win away to Preston so beating Wolves will be crucial. Realistically a Wolves win or draw is the likely outcome, and Bruce will have to come up with a master plan to get something. Forest beat Wolves not too long ago so there is hope. It will be a full house so crowd can be 12th man. We need to get our best players on the ball and don’t let them dictate the pace which is easier said than done. I would play Bjarnasson, Hourihane and Grealish to give us the energy in the middle. I fear Bruce will go with Whelan or Jedinak, both too slow to match Wolves midfield.
Just read Whelan likely to be out injured so probably Jedinak will play. As long as Onomah doesn’t feature.
Holte – would prefer Bjarnasson because he is quicker and brings more in terms of switching play from defence into attack.
Cardiff are going to be a hard team to catch themselves, let alone Wolves at this moment. I didn’t give Cardiff enough credit and when they went on their 4 game losing streak I thought it’d continue but they’re now on a run of 7 wins and 2 draws in their last 9. Only positive for us with them is that they’re facing teams that either believe they can reach the playoffs still like Brentford, are facing the other top 6 sides or are facing teams desperate for points and will be satisfied with a draw against them. Other plus side right now is Small Heath have a new manager, so we can only hope they do the typical honey moon run and beat or even draw Cardiff.
A draw would be a decent result for us, we have a game in hand over Fulham, and while yes we’d likely drop 2 more points behind Cardiff, you’d have to argue we have a fairly (I know some won’t like the word) simple run in, other than facing Cardiff themselves. Obviously a win would be huge for us in attempting to catch Cardiff still. Should be interesting with Wolves going to Boro who are trying to stay in the playoffs and away to Cardiff who are trying to catch them, things could turn, although I have no doubt Wolves will still win the league, it could be close.
on the other hand, we have a 16 year old Dutch keeper on trial, who will be playing for the U16’s for the second time, who has impressed once already.
Now it makes seance, Why are rival clubs seeking clarification on EFL rules?
They feel that Mendes’ involvement with owners Fosun has given Wolves an unfair advantage.
Leeds United, Aston Villa and Derby County are among the leading clubs to have voiced their concerns over Mendes links with Wolves, claiming they breach regulations on third-party ownership.
Mendes is the agent of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, £15m signing Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Ivan Cavaleiro, and also has a long association with Fosun.
Those signings and other arrivals have put the spotlight on the club’s Financial Fair Play concerns.
Bill – Fosun actually own shares in Mendes company and Mendes is an ‘advisor’ to the club. EFL clubs are questioning how Wolves can afford the players they have bought / on loan within FFP rules and, as I met nderstand it, are suggesting that the Mendes link enables Wolves to bring in players they wouldn’t ordinarily be able to afford – hence Mendes is influencing the club as a third party which apparently is not allowed.
Watch this space but I suggest the EFL will do sod all.
