Swansea 4 – 1 Villa; Another 4-1 loss!

I think that’s the third 4-1 loss we’ve suffered in the last few weeks isn’t it?
At least it wasn’t at home this time, but that’s really not much of a plus point.

For what it’s worth, I actually thought we played well at times and certainly around 15-25 minutes or so, we applied some nice pressure which resulted in a super cross on the run from Marc Albrighton (something I’ve always rated him as being very good at) and Gabby putting the ball in the net after Bony had taken the lead for Swansea.
It was certainly a deserved equaliser, but then we had a bit of a calamity from Guzan’s clearance which resulted in Jonjo Shelvey hitting an absolute peach of a volley from god knows how many yards out that left Guzan with no chance. The strike showed superb technique and for me, is up there as a contender for goal of the season.
I won’t pick on Brad there as it was just one of those wonder strikes.

We didn’t let our heads drop too much though and still battled on fairly well, although I had a sneaky feeling we wouldn’t get back into it.
Albrighton (my MOTM again) was whipping some super balls in and any decent striker would have probably had a hat-trick today (Bent anyone?) but nine times out of ten, there was nobody on the end of them.
Sod’s law says I took a toilet break for Swansea’s third goal, so I can’t comment on that.
But when I did start watching again, it seemed to me that the lads had just lost heart.

Then, when Holt came on for El Ahmadi and signalled a four up top, I basically gave up too.
Is it just me who thinks this is schoolboy tactics?

A penalty that you just knew Guzan wasn’t going to save rounded things off on a day where nothing really went right for us and left me despondent, as I thought this was one of the three games that we really ought to win. Just Hull next week left out of my three and I’ll definitely be going.
Not that I’m looking forward to it much.

While we huff and puff, we quite simply aren’t good enough. It’s as simple as that.
Please let this season end as soon as possible, with us getting enough to keep us up, so we can go again.
But please not with any of the current hierarchy. If we do go down and it’s looking very possible, even though I think we’ll scrape it, it’ll be their fault and will serve them right.

Morning Giddy, I’m not bothering to comment anymore, I sore this coming after 6-8 games of that prat coming to Villa, I agreed that in principle the idea was right in killing run-a-way wages for players but his idea of play was crap, he had ample time to get experienced player but chose to ignore because it was his method, I’ve said no more money from me to the club, that club is not Villa its a Yanks toy and he’s taking the piss out of not only Villa fans but our country, he’s laughing at the Brits, I still blame Doug Ellis for looking for a man that had money in his bank, and not a man that loved the game of football but only what he can make for his pocket, as long as their are people still buying he’s laughing at us, I feel sorry for my 7 year old grandson , he loves the game of football and plays in tournaments keeps saying why don’t Villa grandad sack the manager, what do I say? Only one day son things will get better, but not in my time.

i just wanna ask ppl how many players that are currently playing for villa, could play for any other of the 19 premier teams, no scrap that could make the bench of the other 19 teams. i doubt any would be covet by others. benteke is the only player currently in the squad, probably otherpremier team would wanna poach and hes off soon as he can.

aston villa are in a total mess, from top to bottom, changing manager now is no way gonna change a thing, if we stay up or go down the manager will probably walk anyways. but a new owner and chief executive new manager, a overhaul of players is needed, sumat which is done after the season

p.s when we go down at least we won’t be playing Birmingham, they will be in league 1 ๐Ÿ™‚ every cloud has a silver lining, sunderland cardiff draw i am hoping for

Yes Morgan but do we look capable of getting that? I really think we are reliant on there being three teams that don’t get more points than us, and maybe staying up on goal difference. I think Norwich and Fulham will drop, so we need either Sunderland or Cardiff to fall short. I can’t really decide whether a draw between those two today is best. Defeat to either club against a relegation rival may be demoralising and enough to lose heart. It’s just sickening to be in this position.

For me the problem is clear. The players just don’t work hard enough. Not enough closing down or pressing. We get picked off when we give teams loads of time and space. With the odd exception I think the players have become more and more lazy over the course of the season and because of the thinness of the squad, the lazy ones know they will still play the following week. Most of the team from yesterday should be dropped for next week but they are pretty much all guaranteed to start again next week. Baker is a case in point. He should never be anywhere near the first team after his antics yesterday, but because Clark is just as bad we all know that Baker will start against Hull. 90% of fans have been calling for Weimann to be dropped these last few weeks because he doesn’t put a shift in, but week in week out he starts. To rid the squad of the laziness I’m afraid it will require an entire new management team with a tough new approach. Then we’ll read about player revolts, unpopular methods etc but I’m afraid if you’re going to be a successful professional footballer you have to work very hard on the pitch – just watch the work that teams like Bayern, Real, even Liverpool get through in 90 mins and then compare that to our players. It’s no wonder we’re struggling.

    1. DSVilla
      DSVilla April 27, 2014 at 10:57 am . Reply

Agree with what you say Kevin but I wonder sometimes if that is tactical rather than laziness. We are pretty useless with the ball, and manage to lose most matches where we dominate possession (not many I know). I think against teams that are good in possession we sit back and try to win the ball in our own half and break quickly. Unfortunately our fit forwards aren’t good enough, and our midfield doesn’t have the ability to play the right pass anyway.

We are light years away from being a good team, yet at the same time the addition of some real quality in a few positions could make a massive difference, particularly if our long term injured were available.

We are almost gone and thanks to Lamberk so could our chances of a new owner. It’s fully deserved though, we 100% deserve relegation for the utter disgrace the manager, board and players have been over the past few years.
