Third generation Villan has offered the following, something I think many of us will agree with;
I, like most fans enjoy the transfer window especially the summer window, where we look everywhere we can constantly to see who we could be buying or selling and we all have our opinions of who we should buy or not and our fantasy list of players we would like to buy if we owned the club and had unlimited funds to do so.
But I just had to make this post about the bias the media has for the top 5 or 6 clubs, as we all know its there but I feel its getting worse and it really winds me up.
I listen to Talksport while traveling to and from work and they just love liverpool and the other big clubs.
For instance, over the last few days I have heard their so called experts and reporters come up with the following itk comments…. Benteke is wanted by Spurs and would like a straight swap for Adebayor (you couldn’t make it up could you?) but he has his heart set on liverpool. And then the deal is done for benteke and he will move today or tomorrow but liverpool wont pay the £32 million (if you dont then FO, is what I say).
But the best of the lot is one I hear this morning…… Benteke will go to liverpool for 2 players, Enrique and Lambert and £7 million (more like £25 million and those 2 misfits) and the club will be sold to an arab consortium in the next few days!
Then there is the Delph story, if the papers are right and its only £10 million.
Why has there not been a bid and why is he still here? The rest of the Premiership would be knocking the door down for that price (I agree with others on here that that fee was only if we got relegated).
There are other rumours as well but you get my drift, as it’s not just Talksport but the media in general. As I said it winds me up and I am interested to see if any of you agree.
Or is it just me getting cranky in my old age?
Yes do strongly agree, the media is biased. Don’t know why their obsessed with liverfool though, their just a bunch of has been’s and as for Brendan Rodgers(complete tool).
I’ve been saying that for years
Got to say I am happy to go under the media radar, of course the ‘big’ clubs get reported as it’s a supply and demand for the writers and blog artists.
It’s all about views, and those teams sadly have far greater support than many others – if it was my job the likelihood is I would follow suit despite being a Villa fan!
They also get money for ‘hits’ on their page, so sensationalism headlines, making things up non-stop will ensure this…sadly we have two prized assets this time who fall into the ‘bait’ for these writers.
The frustration with Villa at present, and I think for a number of fans, is we see potential with even just ‘mediocre’ investment – I say that as it’s a relative term, but in today’s EPL financial world, £25-30m is in fact not the high money to spend in a window to what it was 4 or 5 years ago even.
We could have potential a decent spine (Richards, Delph, Benteke), a good few players around those or potentially (Grealish, Sanchez, Okores, Sinclair) and with a few signings without sales, a good starting 11.
Add to that a few of the better transfer links – Begovic, Amavi, Gueye, Chery – circa £25m from reported figures for those, and I would probably have some excitement to the season.
Problem is, it’s unlikely to happen, but like you I enjoy the transfer gossip and the ‘what if’ scenarios we could create for a team…at times I think I find it more exciting than the footy as we know we won’t win anything!
the worst site is hitc nearly every story no matter what its about try’s to bring spurs into it . its so obvious a lot of there so called reporters are spurs fans so every football story gets a spurs slant. was listening to the press pass on talksport and the mirrors head of sports was on it and he confessed he was a liverpool fan. within a few mins he brought the transfer talk onto liverpool saying that sterling was worth £40m to £50m and we where crazy valuing benteke at £30m. but the best i heard was the tennis corespondent who said football bored him as the like of talksport and sky only wanted to talk about the sky six i laughed as they tried to shut him up about it. the football media is biased toward a few clubs its so obvious some clubs play ball with them and get good media coverage and some clubs dont and get nothing but negative story’s . i think we are in the second group.
The funny thing is the talksport tennis correspondent is actually a Villa fan!
wow so they have two villa fans stan and the tennis guy . is the tennis guy also there horse racing expert because im sure during the FA CUP final he said he was a villa fan .
You’re absolutely right, big teams get linked with big names almost daily. Some of these rumours are also often completely outrages. But people soak that up, they love to read those articles because it gets their imaginations going. Those articles also are more likely to be shared.
The players we have been linked with are dire, but I think it’s going to be the same story it was with Lambert. The media don’t really link us with players that we are set to sign until the deal has almost been passed. For example, no one really linked us with Gueye yet that deal is on the verge of happening.
I agree 100% and it makes me sick. It’s just one big love-in for the top few clubs and next to nothing for the 15 or so other clubs in the PL. You can have a manager of a middle to bottom PL team get sacked and yet it will get less media time than a Man Utd player with a bad toe! Im sick to death of watching certain sports channels or reading certain articles from particular sources as I just know it’s all heavily biased towards the usual teams. I’m really fed up of the whole lot of it.
I’ve noticed this for the last 5 years. At least. And I feel like the Spurs, Liverpool, and Everton fans/journos love to wind us up with shite. Using words like “shock move” “wantaway” “dream move” “snubs” and other crap. And now Nursey seems to go negative at every opportunity. I’ve stopped listening and paying attention. I trust Tom Fox has a huge plan. And all these jerks wil be eating crow.
Cheer up. When was the last time Villa sold a good player for a bargain price? Exclude out of contract departures, and those young players who had not become first team regulars.. I reckon it was Peter Crouch, because we did not think he was as good as he turned out to be.
I can understand Citeh wanting Delph for <£10M, but I can't see us having a release clause that is still valid for a current England international at that price.
OLL- Cahill ? [‘coz MON preferred a self-confessed ‘pub-team player’…]
