Well, that was poor wasn’t it?
All we did there is see a repeat of what’s been long known.
There are too many players that just aren’t good enough and they’re in the same positions we’ve been talking about for months.
Olsen, just no
Konsa, Mings, Digne. I’ve at best half heartedly defended them at times, but I can’t even do that anymore. They have individually been decent at times, but I’m sorry, I just think they’re shocking as a unit. They’re too slow, make poor decisions and don’t even make up for it by being cultured in knocking it round at the back.
Move on to the midfield and McGinn is another I just can’t defend anymore. You can be out of form by all means but it’s been over a year now and I’m running out of patience with him.
Buendia and Luiz were also poor too, but I’m willing to cut them some slack as they’re normally not that bad.
Bailey had a terrible shift and I’m not sure what to think today.
Watkins, well, he’s another who has been poor for too long. He should have had four goals today and he’s another I’ve had it with.
That’s probably an over-reaction and after a while I’ll probably be seeing things a bit differently, but it’s definitely fair to say there are just too many players who just aren’t good enough.
Don’t get me wrong, Liverpool weren’t very good either.
But the difference is they have more quality than we do.
Emery has his work cut out in bringing new players in and I hpe our owners are willing to dig deep.
Because we need a lot of players replacing, in my opinion.
It’s the inconsistency that gets me. We can play like the best team on the planet one week, relegation candidates the next. WHY???!!!???
I take the criticism of Ings, but he hasn’t had the luxury Ollie gets of a really sustained period in the team. When you look at his stats, do we really think he’d not score more goals than Ollie if he had played the same amount of minutes? I personally think he gets a bit of a raw deal and clearly as someone else mentioned, he doesn’t work as hard for the team. I’d really like to see him play 90 minutes for 10-20 games in a row just to see what kind of form he could produce.
Good point TV. U gs has never been given a good run in the side.
RIP Pele.
I’m happy to say I was part of the crowd when he came to VP.
My very vague memory tells me that there were way more than the official 55,500 attendance though;

If I remember correctly, the game was played during the miners strike and Villa brought in generators to make sure it could go ahead.
I wonder what health & safety would have made of that!
I was there too Badger. I drove from Loughborough with another fan in his Austin A35. That in itself was an experience [bum-numbing]. Lucky we had a small car because as we approached the ground from 5-ways there were cars crammed on the pavements. We found a corner slot that just had room for an A35, and fortuitously made for the Witton End terrace. Just got in, had we gone to the Holte we might have been unlucky.
It was during the 3-day week. Public electricity for a night match was not allowed. Villa hired more than one Generator, but miscalculated getting only enough to power 4 floodlight pylons. That failed because the public area lighting also needed power – so only 3 Pylons were lit. After one generator packed up that was reduced to 2 in the second half, the ‘A’s lit – the ‘V’s out.
3 framed programmes here of improbable matches include Aston Villa v Santos, Bournemouth v Real Madrid, and Sutton United v Arsenal.
The first footballing superstar and a gent. Don’t forget to take a ball up to heaven. Teach St Peter a trick or too. RIP.
Remember watching Pele in the ‘66 World Cup – he was literally kicked off the park and, if memory serves correct, it meant he wasn’t able to play in all the group games. Would Brazil have won it in ‘66 had he been able to play?^
He was back in 1970 and won the WC for the third time, the only footballer ever to do so.
Imho not only the best footballer ever to play the game but a true gentleman as well in an age when footballers weren’t paid megabucks.
RIP Pele; never to be forgotten.
1970 WC – for me, still the best I’ve ever seen (although ’74 & even ’78 weren’t bad).
And looking back that 1970 WC was all about Pele…
1972 Hitch. I remember that time think we won the game that day .
Bloody hell. Emi on the bench over Olsen. I’d rather have Emi in goal with one leg than Olsen.
Anyway, Happy New Year Villans/ Villians!!!!
That’s at least one goal start for Spurs.
What is Emery trying to prove?
Unless Emi has come back the worse for wear…Even then I’d still prefer him.
I don’t have a good feeling about today’s game, looking into my crystal ball I can see an absolute drubbing.
Emi on the bench?…
Some truth to those arsenal rumours?
And now rumours that Villa are supposed to be interested in Pickford?
Spurs have won 10 of the last 12 (against us) and we’ve only managed to win 2 in the last 21!
Can’t really see past a Spurs win and, no doubt, Son will tear us apart – again!
After seeing Pep and his substitutes yesterday I’m not surprised at what managers do . Fed up saying it our footballers are in need of selling they are crap. We will lose and draw with wolves. I will get behind the team just to kick them up the backside. Happy New Year lads .
Happy New Year Bill and all.
As feared Olsen starts and Martinez / Cash are both on the bench which looks woefully weak to me.
3-0 Spurs which will maintain Olsens average goals conceded per match.
I think we are in for a drubbing. Is Emery stamping his authority. It won’t end well for him if he forces Martinez out the door. Emi is a big fan favourite and if like we expect, Olsen with the calamitous back 4 concede easily against Kane and Son to name just two, then fans won’t be happy early days. Also why Young over Cash? Is he trying to punish the World Cup players? There’s no way Cash won’t be ready!
Prediction 4-0 to Spurs.
