I can’t say I’ve watched Chelsea very many times this season and if I have, it’s mostly through interest in seeing how Chucky has been doing. The fact that he hardly gets a start is satisfying, even though it’s also a bit nasty of me. Hey ho, that’s how footy gets you.
I went out of my way to watch them on Monday night, specifically because we face them today and they just confirmed what I’ve thought of them this season. They’re a very up and down side, where you really don’t know what to expect. Suffice to say, Arsenal totally destroyed them.
Hence the logic is Arsenal destroy Chelsea, we beat Arsenal by what could have been 4-0, so we will beat Chelsea easily.
Heh, if only football worked like that. I’m reminded of how Liverpool have been excellent all season, but have imploded just in this week and just as is often said, “it’s a funny old game” and exactly why we love it. Anyone can beat anyone in this league, which is what makes it such a money spinner, after all.
Squad news then and I don’t think much has changed.
Tyrone Mings, Emi Buendía, Jacob Ramsey and Boubacar Kamara,Álex Moreno and Nicolò Zaniolo aren’t fit.
The good news is that everyone else is available.
As for Chelsea, the news is that they have loads of injuries, which to be fair has probably hampered them all season. They have twelve unavailable today, in Chucky, Raheem Sterling, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill, Reece James, Christopher Nkunku, Robert Sanchez, Lesley Ugochukwu, Ben Chilwell and Malo Gusto while long-term absentees Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana are expected to be out for the foreseeable future.
The bad news is that Cole Palmer is back after missing the last game through illness. He’s absolutely on fire and is obviously going to be a big danger today.
So, what to think?
As I’ve said, I’m not going to predict anything today. Certainly my “not wanting to jinx anything” stance over recent weeks has served us well, as we continue to get wins, even though we haven’t exactly played that well at times. That’s the sign of a good side though, isn’t it? You keep winning, fullstop, regardless of the performance.
Whatever, the reason I asked “Is this the one?” is because I have a sneaky feeling that this could possibly be the game that clinches a Champions’s league place. Not that I’m predicting, you understand.
I’m just suggesting that IF we win this, it could just prove a bridge too far for Tottenham to overtake us.
As I said though, it’s a funny old game. And us Villa fans rarely get what we want.
Here’s hoping and UTV!
Olsen saves from Palmer.
Give me the point, please!
3-2 and quelle surprise.
Emery, that’s your fault, I’m afraid.
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Idiots
You are f’gsgg>i g kidding…
THAT’S A FUCKING FOUL YOU C****!
GROW SOME BALLS YOU PRICK!
VAR!!! Phew!!!!!
And that’s how VAR should work, BTW.
That’s a foul deliberate barge, not a shoulder charge.
It’s ruled out.
Still 2-2 and I’m still not happy.
FUCK YOU COCKNEY WANKERS! F*** OFF!
What a load of tossers week to prepare even had 2 days off and serve that rubbish up.
What the hell is wrong with emery
He set team to defend why?
What is it with a 2goal lead every time now they throw it away.
How many points we’ve thrown away with 2 goal leads
I’m fed up
Unai is not the elite manager you fans think he has allowed villa to lose 2 goal leads to many times now that’s bad management
Don’t get me wrong he’s done brilliant but there’s a flaw in there.
Just not good enough sorry,
Also villa play better twice a week
Ticker OK, everyone?
No. On an ECG test now!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😆
We were lucky but that was a clear foul on Carlos.
I seriously hate Chelsea and their cr**py manager.
We were well off it today but a point isn’t the worst outcome – now have to rely on Chelsea beating Spuds, Funny game football,
The gods are against us as are the media If we get 4th unai should get manager of the year
That second half was a shambles. I don’t know whether Martinez going off made any difference. Chelsea deserved the win and we have blown another 2-0 lead. Too many injuries are contributing big time to our ever reducing squad. I’m very concerned about Thursday now.
Olympiakos will smell blood watching that second half.
Strange. We have week off and play poorly. Last couple of weeks we play two games a week and are strong in the Premier.
Shame Tilesman is injured as we play better with him and McGinn, rather than Dougie in there.
More injuries – Tilesman and Martinez. We really are running out of players to use.
I am worried for our remaining 3 matches.
Sid – your post came up before mine – apologies as we picked up on the same issues
The injury to Tielemans was critical.
The reality is we’re literally running out of players!
With Tielemans injured we have literally no options – we only now have 11 first team players to choose from.
If Emery pulls off either 4th or the Conference Leagie with the players left it will be outstanding. If he pulls off both then he clearly walks on water.
UTMV
That point means that spurs can’t lose one of their 3 games
Good point (ah sorry for the pun) Gerry. Pressure still on Spuds where a loss today would have given them some breathing space.
Not to forget their three games are Chelsea, Liverpool and Man C.
And Arsenal.
Pheww, that was a close call.
We were hardly at out best but Martin Skyler was trying to suck the ball in the net for Chelsea. Jesus, I’ve never heard such bias commentary in my life.
Martin, just to let you know the days of Drogba and the chosen one have long since past, so move on son.
Martinez going off absolutely f**ked our game plan, so more than happy with a point.
If we’d have drawed at at Arsenal and beat Chelsea, we’d have all been happy,. So onwards and upwards.
What a load of tossers week to prepare even had 2 days off and serve that rubbish up.

Think that’s really harsh Roy but understandable.
We’re all disappointed by the performance tonight but like against Lille the players dug in and never gave up.
Emery is no different to any other manager – he’s not infallible but I’m still glad he’s at Villa.
Put this behind us and look forward to Olympiakos.
UTMV
Roy I think maybe you might reflect?
Chelsea have spent shit loads, have some top notch players and an excellent manager.
We, as I saw it, let them have the ball, they weren’t hurting us. Martinez gets goes off, game plan goes to shite.
Mate, how far we’ve come in such a short time?
