Villa in for Jonas Olsson to replace Vlaar; Seriously?

So the Mirror are saying we’re going to do the above;

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-plot-swoop-jonas-4635520

Olsson is 31 and according to Wiki, signed a four year contract in October 2012.
So unless we get incredibly lucky, given our record of over-paying for players, we aren’t going to get him on a free transfer.
Or are we? I’ll leave you to debate that, but I’ll bet he’s on top wages, even if we do get him for nothing.

So what am I getting at?
Well, quite simply I can only see this as another way of Randy Lerner pocketing a couple of million quid.

I don’t have anything against Olsson. He’s a decent, experienced defender, who’s being kept out by Lescott.
But is he on a par with Vlaar?
Or, more in line with what we should be looking for as fans, is he an improvement?
I suspect we’d all agree that he’ll be nothing of the sort.

Of course, it could be that we’re bringing him in purely as backup, given the crocks that we already have.
Which would be fine if that’s all it is.
So why do I suspect that he’ll be expected to go straight into the team?

Hmm, £4-5 million in for Vlaar and Ollson will cost around £1.5 million. It’ll be “undisclosed” of course, as most of our transfers are these days, so we’ll never know the facts.

So that’ll be another few quid in Lerner’s pocket, while he throws us the usual bone of around £5 million to spend in the winter window (which was par for the course years ago, remember).
In the meantime, it depresses me to think some will be praising him for it, because of how “times are hard” etc.
Yes, incredibly hard, if you haven’t received an extra £30 million a season from Sky: which the club has.

Even if this deal doesn’t happen, you can bet your last couple of bob that something like it will, in my opinion.

And still the fans don’t complain.

Paul Lambert has accused the Swiss FA of “poor man-management”.
Thats a classic Paul cause we’ve thought the same about you for the last 2-and-a-half-years at Villa!!

I don’t get why this has become an issue giddy we have never done a mins silence for pub bombings before and no one complained so why now? Don’t get me wrong I’m all for a minutes silence as pub bombings was arguably the blackest day in Brums history certainly in modern times.

Is a minutes applause really appropriate? Not in my opinion but at least it seems the penny as finally dropped with the powers that be down at VP and I suppose it’s better than nothing.

NORAID money from Boston (Massachusetts) is believed to be behind the bombing of the UK mainland in the 70’s and 80’s including the Birmingham Pub Bombings.

That’s completely ridiculous. Broken legs happen differently and not every single one is going to take the same amount of time. Kozak was unfortunate to have a setback, Giroud is far more fortunate (for now) not too have one. These things happen.

Oohah, 10-20 years ago people thought that justice was served in 6 convictions and a closure , but as you know it is said the six was not involved, the city of Birmingham needs to remember that this wicked act is unpunished, what better that possibly 30+ thousand should remember on that day. I know what your intimating that it wasn’t done in the passed by Villa, nor by any other clubs, but that should not stop till the culprits are found, and at this stage never will,

Anyways, according to the BBC, seems Lambert confirms he’s talked to Vlaar and his agent and the consensus is, his agent has said thanks but no thanks on extending his contract. So do we try to sell him for what we can get, basically because he’s always injured? Or do we keep him until the summer, hoping he comes back as he is still our best defender, when fit, which does seem rare. And do we trust Lambert in finding a replacement for him?

If we can get a fee for him in January sell him……. Then Randy can keep the money as he is a bit short this month…… Then watch Delph go and Cleverley trot off to Everton…Clubs a joke

I had high hopes of Foxy getting the club in better shape….. But realise now his worldwide contacts are probably just being used to find a buyer for Randy… And by the time we are sold we will have no premiership level players left, 30-40% lower attendances and a manager that holds the worst records in our history……. On the bright side at least we have a nice training ground, although due to its injury record don’t think even BH is a selling point.

You have to agree that since the club had Lerner and Lambert nothing has ever come out of Villa park any good, we still have fans hanging on for a miracle, I don’t want to keep moaning, but give me a reason not to, as Saddened just said, what up till now has Fox given Villa fans, what’s Lerner up to, he must know the route he’s taken this club is oblivion, and still confounds fans, other clubs would have acted by now, so what’s going on in Villa Park. Finger crossed for Monday lads, but don’t hold your breath, I see us in deep shite on Tuesday, and more depressed.

Rats leaving a sinking ship, would be harsh to call them that. Club has no ambition cannot blame anybody that wants out. We need Lambert out ASAP, someone in to try and steady the ship. Fans not happy need to voice their opinion . Some papers where saying Lambert had 2 games to turn things around. If we lose Monday night hopfully to axe will fall.

Only if Sendeross starts playing like he did in the beginning. He’s gotten worse as the season’s gone on. Could be I guess because Vlaar’s always injured, but Baker’s been better than him.

i think lambert’s jobs safe, crazy as it seems. unless he quits, unless say the villa park faithful turn on the team and him. lerner will keep him, he knows new manager = more more more stuttering, i mean money on transfers + wages.

david moyes has been free to approach, but no movement for him, lerner will keep him because hes no ambitions for the club only for selling it, i can’t believe more haven’t said this. its a plain as the nose on his face. hes looking 2 sell and hes risking our clubs future, cos this squad which is depleted of quality and depth, isn’t good enough to survive this season. injuries will be our achilles heel

southampton will be very hard, being at villa park this could be a embarrassing defeat or a morale boosting season changing win, villa 0 saints 2
