Villa – Sheff Utd; Tough game, this

Some of you might have figured out that I’m the granddad that was mentioned in the replies a while back.
So, yes, we’re making a bit of a family occasion of it and we’re going tonight. Even the missus is coming with us.

For some daft reason, the twins wanted to go in the Witton end North stand. I can’t say I’m keen, as I much prefer the back of the Holte, but there you go, it’ll make a change.

Straight into squad news and the big one is that Grealish won’t be playing, as much as he might want to and thinks he’s ready. Andre Green is training, but I suspect it’s probably too early for him too.
And Lansbury is still miles away, by the sound of it.

Hands up, a little dicky bird has told me the team for today. Whether it ends up being true, is something else, but here it is;

Kalinic
Taylor
Hutton
Elphick
Mings
Hourihane
McGinn
El Ghazi
Kodjia
Abraham
and finally, Jedinak.

Which is probably about what we’d expect, I guess, although you might have thought that Carroll might start.
I’m guessing he’ll be on the bench.

Utd have no problems and any changes will probably just be shuffling the squad.

Sheffield will be well up for this game, as if they win, they’ll go top of the league.
Which demonstrates what a tough proposition this is.

Given that Sheffield play nice football, this should be an entertaining game whatever the result, but I have to be honest and say that I’m not massively confident, especially after our previous meeting.
You never know though. We have weapons that can hurt them and hopefully our defence won’t be so vulnerable.

I’m going for a 1-1 draw, but it’s more in hope than expectation.

We are a confidence side with no confidence.

From that last minute equaliser against West Brom we have gone down hill.

The players have to take responsibility, they are not playing to the best of their abilities, when Smith first came in he had them playing excellent football, now they are running around like headless chickens with no idea.

    Unbelievable.

Get Jedinak or Hourihane off. Jedinak hasn’t passed to a teammate yet, and Hourihane is transparent for want of a better description

Agree jedicrap shouldn’t be on the pitch. He’s a waste of space every time he touches the ball he gives it away!!

I hope Smith has a great team talk lined up because if he hasn’t, then this games gone

The players are shit scared of playing at VP. That’s why none of them want the ball.

At least Bruce built, shall we say, a ‘mini fortress’ at home. We seem to be dropping an awful lot of points at VP. Worrying. The players and coaching staff all need to get a grip…

Take Jedinak off and put either Wheelan or Thor on. Take Kodjia off and put Adomah on and take El Ghazi off and put Green on. NOW!

I would rather we lost 3-2 in the last minute or draw 5-5 than watch this hoof ball.

I don’t get how we started the game. You can’t blame nerves at kick off. United just wanted it more and won all the 50-50 challenges. Too many snowflake players. We need more like McGinn and Abraham.

If we get beat tonight and we will, sit the whole of the team on the bench and play the kids, what a shower of shit we have, who is captain tonight? We got no footballing brains , don’t even talk about play off no way the Scum will get that, then I’d walk away.

Both hands on the ball. No kick it out and give the goal. Although where the hell were the midfield in the build up to their goal.

Oh – turned off so quickly I didn’t see the controversy over United’s second goal although it seems to me that it was grasping at straws anyway

I’ve done ‘a Badger’ and turned the game off. I have never before stopped watching a game this early.

Over to you Ted – the floor is yours 🙂

Although I still think changing managers again is not the answer. Chris Wilder has built this United side over a number of years and we need to allow a manager time. Leeds chopped managers on a regular basis to no good effect.

Second goal is absolutely farcical, Sharp was offside, had his studs showing and kicked it out of the goal keepers hands, absolutely mental that was given.

I’m beginning to think even Smith not the answer to Villa full stop.why hasn’t he changed the game? Why let it carry on being negative, 3 now

He hasn’t changed the game because he’s scared. Fear leads to muddled thoughts, leading to poor decision making or, in this case, no decisions at all. ‘Rabbit in headlights’ scenario.

I want him to succeed but he needs to have the courage of his convictions. Having said that, he had no choice but to ditch his philosophy because he hasn’t got the players to implement it. So we have to be patient and give him a full pre-season and a full season with his team, assuming there’s an overhaul in the summer.

Tough times, but we have to stick with it. Basically, Smith can’t win. The job is a poisoned chalice, at the moment, at least.

Just Bruce all over again, smith has completely gone against all he set up at his previous teams, nothing in it, mid table mediocrity here we cone

It’s the Villa curse – even if Pep came here, he’d be reduced to hoof ball after a few games and star players would be reduced to utter sh*te – not that we have any – star players I mean!
