Villa – Swansea; Big, big game and Sherwood needs a win

swans

Well, the headline says it all really doesn’t it?
This is simply a massive game for Tim Sherwood and we all know the pressure he’s been under of late.
Indeed, it seems he might have heaped some on himself today, in suggesting that’ll he basically resign if he feels the need.
I’ve got a sneaky feeling that decision might even come as soon as tomorrow if we don’t get the win, so important is the game and I’ve no doubt that’ll please more than a few of us.

While I’ve been supportive of Sherwood up to now, mainly because I’m not convinced we’ll get anyone better in, I’m also becoming perhaps a bit more realistic about how grave our current plight is.
The simple fact is if we lose tomorrow our current form will be six played without a single point to our name. That’s frankly shocking and will surely leave Sherwood in an untenable position, where even if he doesn’t jump, the hierarchy may well sack him, even if they’re somewhat reluctant.

The possibly good news is that we don’t have any injuries at all. Of course Sherwood might not be particularly bothered about that if you believe the stories that he didn’t want at least some of them.
So the big question in that area is who is the manager going to play?
Does Gabby walk straight back in?
Will Lescott be dropped for Clark or Okore?

The truth is I don’t particularly care for this one match, as it’s not about the team selection.
It’s not about the tactics either really. I don’t care if he plays half the reserves and goes 1-8-1 either.
It’s simply all about getting the win at any costs and regardless of if Guzan mis-kicks it into their net or something similarly daft.

And I really do want us to win.
Because the club is pretty much on its knees at the moment and I just don’t want it to sink any lower.

The trouble is, I’m not convinced it’s going to happen and I think a point might be about as good as it gets.
Which won’t be good enough to appease certainly the fans or probably Fox and Lerner either.

1-1 then.

i don’t think we will ever know what goes on behind closed doors but its apparent Sherwood doesn’t trust these new players that he apparently had no say in i see a massive split in the ranks that whoever comes in would have trouble in repairing

Wtf is tactics tim at??? Bacuna in CM is my best guess with gana but seriously tim seems a fucking idiot!!! Lots of people here saying manager doesn’t matter it’s all about learner blah blah blah Wat a load of nonsense! The manager is the most important man at the club weather he is buying players or not the most important part is tactics and what team he puts out and tim gets it wrong over and over again! If you think managers don’t matter then tell me do Norwich have a better team than us? Bournemouth? Do Leicester? Did Stoke or Swansea or sunderland for the last few years? No they absolutely did not but what they all have or had are better managers that get the players to play as a cohesive team with a plan and with the right players in the right positions and when they are 2-0 up away from home with 15 mins left they do not take off a midfielder and bring on a CF to play him on the wing!!! I will admit I was with ooh ah last season that I said fair play to tim for keeping us up but I knew he couldn’t sustain it and we were correct! He has no managerial ability he is a simple motivator and even that skill seems to hav left him this seasom because the team looks devoid of confidence, attitude and even simple fitness! All our players looked wrecked after 60 mons so wtf are they doing in training??? Tim needs to go 3 games ago but of we lose today then there should be absolutely no disagreement, get rid and get a progressive European manager to change the club from youth set up to 1st team with a TEAM philosophy!

So my hope for a draw or win has gone down to we’ll get crushed with that starting 11. He’s gotta be on some strong drugs to play that side.

Guzan I get. Better than Bunn and everything. Gabby, Lescott, Gestede, Hutton, Richardson, should not be playing. Bacuna should not be playing at CM as we need him at RB, Ayew should not be playing out wide. These are all really simple things to see. He’s trying desperately to get sacked. Or he’s on some strong stuff.

I don’t normally agree with you but I think you could be bang on with Tim trying to get the sack this line up defends that imo.

Just makes no sense that line-up at all. Bacuna’s not used to playing CM so you try him there against Shelvey and Ki? One who’s an overly aggressive twat and one who’s incredibly talented. Richardson has no business starting, neither does Lescott who I’d rather see Crespo over. Gabby just comes back and starts yet Clark can’t even make the bench? Gestede’s useless up front as we’re not a team who’s going to cross a lot, and he can’t run. Hutton’s just awful. It’s easier than resigning for him which would prove he’s a quitter and he claimed he’s happy which was a lie.

Its OK lads Useless Tim call the team in early today, 11am, not 1 o’clock, long meeting with player’s and a walk round the pitch, think that might be to show the team where the ground is and what goal post are. He’s told them its a cup match today. I’m off to bed.

    Ohah

I have now moved fairly and squarely into your camp. I hope I am wrong, but what an unbalanced side for today. As Adrian Durham says “heads gone”. TS is facing the gallows and his team selection is just plain wrong. I hope it is a clean execution without a stay of execution.

What formation are we playing today? Answers on a postcard please.

As Bency said our bench has most of our best footballers on it – I wouldn’t mind a strong bench if the starting 11 was much to look at. Looks like he’s only really trying to play his or Lambert’s signings – the moneyball boys are getting frozen out. Where are Clark, Sinclair and Veretout?

What the fuck has happened to Amavi????

Although he made the odd mistake (name me a player in the squad who hasn’t) he looked like he could play some football. Good at crosses too so no point playing Gestede without him.

I know it’s not Halloween yet but that team sheet has sent a shiver up my spine.

I predicted a narrow win for Swansea now I’ll say that we’ll lose by two or three.

I can only think that the team sheet was Tim’s way of handing in his resignation.

I’m resigned too – to Championship foot ball next season.

So, what will Sherwood’s excuse be when he has to change his “best squad” at halftime?

Westwood out, tick. Ayew in, tick. Weren’t the majority of us calling for these changes? Even if I’m not fond of some of the chosen lineup I can understand it’s back to basics and go with the more experienced premier league players to grind out a result. Pick up some points and then introduce some of the newbies.

If the experienced players were talented enough to find out results, then that would make sense. However the better players this season so far are the “newbies” and not the experienced players.

I agree about the new players being better this season. But assume as a collective and team he wants to go with the tried and trusted.
