I find this one intriguing.
Yes, I know some of us are on a bit of a downer, because we’ve lost our last two games.
We have to remind ourselves who we were playing though and things haven’t gone anything other than expected, if you think about it.
We lost to Man City, as most teams will and pushed Liverpool to the wire, which many teams won’t.
So now we’re about to face a team that is currently on a par, league-wise and this is much more a realistic test of where we really stand.
Beating the Old Gold, who to my mind have always been our biggest competitors, along with the Albion in who is the biggest Midlands club, is a big thing (notice the joker in the pack doesn’t get a mention or even deserve the name) and always important.
We all know there’s no debate to be had.
The Villa are by far the biggest and the whole football world knows it.
But this “mind the gap” stuff has irked me over the last couple of years.
To be honest, I’m not even sure what it was about, but if it was about league placings, well, that isn’t holding up very well, is it?
I think the Wolves are there to be taken, if we have a good day.
Squad news says Grealish is 50-50, but to my mind it’s what Dean Smith thinks.
I suspect this might be a good game for him to play in, but if he’s going to be clogged, it might be better to wait for the Newcastle game on the 25th(!).
Davis is still out and it’s too early for Jota.
As for Wolves, I really don’t care, but they have their Jota back after suspension and Ryan Bennett is fit again.
While there’s been a bit of pessimism lately on the site and we’re all worried about where we are in the league, I think this is a very close game to call.
So close, that I’d say it comes down to Wolves home advantage, which makes them favourites.
The Carabou cup game was meaningless for comparisons, so we can’t judge anything by that, but I’m very confident that Wolves will at least know they’ve been in a game.
Given that Wolves have drawn their last three games 1-1, you’d think that’s a safe bet again.
It sounds about right too. It’s probably what I would have predicted.
But they surely aren’t going to go 4 games on the trot with that score are they?
I’m going for 2-1, either way. I just don’t know who to, though.
Cup half full and all that, it has to be to us.
UTV!
1-0 and game over. We are clueless going forward and Wesley might as well be a Christmas inflatable for what he contributes.
Well I’m off to the beach ta ta all 🙂
Taylor on FFS!
Unfortunately there is an absolute gulf in class between our squads.
Trezeguet and Wesley was the best part of £30 million pounds spaffed up the wall.
Should have bought Wilson from Liverpool and Maupay.
Smith knew Maupay. I don’t think Wesley was Smith’s choice. Trezeguet might come good but can’t say the same for Wesley.
Heaton
Engel
Grealish
Targett
Steer
Four of 1st 11 out.
Now Taylor and Nyland in the defence. Not looking good.
There was a lot made of our £100m spending in the summer but Wesley, Trezeguet, Targett and Luiz look distinctly average at best to me. Nakamba looks okay but the star of our team without a doubt is Grealish and without him we nearly always look poor.
What a piss poor half. Doesnt matter about the subs we had to make because we have been shocking from the off. Lazy, sloppy and only seem to have the vision to pass it back time and time again. Feel sorry for Wesley. He gets a hard time on here but today he has had nothing to fight for. The balls to him have been shocking to say the least. We have one game plan to hit it long and we cant even get that right so we are doomed today. The midfield seem like they are miles apart and none are busting a gut to get up and help Wesley. Mings to me looks like he cant be arsed today. Mcginn has got on te ball twice. Its just a mess top to bottom. It looks like smith has just picked 11 random players from somewhere, they arent playing as a team. Hourihane for me has to come on now for Douglas and push Trezeguet up top. Think we might lose by 3 or 4 today sadly.
I’ve lambasted Wesley enough he’s been no use to Villa full stop. I think we will be lucky to stay in this league. I cannot see us getting anywhere when we have to depend on one player that creates goals and gets injured. only Mcginn getting stuck in , its a joke to even consider we will win this.
Mourinho says Wolves are a better team with better players which we all knew anyway. Add to that though Vincent Kompany saying Wolves are more up for the fight and then we have no chance at all. Smith needs to lay into them at half time because they look disinterested. Only one substitute left so can’t afford to make a change just yet, so we are stuck with what we have unfortunately.
Very poor attempt from Wesley then.
He should have at least got it on target.
That was utter, utter shit from Wesley. Great ball. Appalling finish. Shite.
Lansbury on for Nakamba.
Can’t argue with that.
Anyone else noticed we never win the ball in the air, in their box?
Stop going on about Citeh – Pool FFS!
Really irritating and disrespectful isn’t it.
You’d think it’s the only game this season.
Bloody disgraceful.
Well I’m glad I’m not the only one to knock Wesley, I don’t see what he offers in a game, oops sorry he makes it 11 on the pitch, he was sold to us by agents and us not following up on him. I’m sitting back with a beer and watching Liverpool and City , and sod football.
Wolves look like they are tiring.
And Lansbury has looked more threatening in 5 mins, than Wesley has all through the game.
That’s it for me.
Wesley is fucking useless!
Toothless.
We look out of our depth in this league. We have no idea.
Absolutely crap defending there.
Adama was actually constantly looking before he passed.
2-0
We’ve been under parr, but not terrible. Apart from Wesley. That’s it for me and Smith must see it too. We have a lot to be optimistic about, but we still lack that killer instinct. The same old problem at Villa – we’re too f*cking nice!
Trez scores!
2-1
