Wolves – Villa; Yet another big one.

I seem to have said that a few times lately, but it’s true isn’t it?
It’s got to the state that if we drop any points, it’ll be a massive setback, because there are too many teams that are more consistent than us.

I was really hoping we’d have had at least a couple of outfield players in for this game and the fact that we haven’t is disappointing. I’m not going to get on the club’s back about it, as we all know deals aren’t easy, especially when the clubs don’t want to let them go, as is certainly the case with Lansbury.
So we are where we are and it’s as simple as that.
We can bitch and moan, but it won’t bring them in any quicker and we can only judge at the end of the window, in my opinion. Although sooner rather than later would be vastly better.

So the first thing that comes to mind again is the midfield, isn’t it?
We’re desperate for reinforcements and only have two that are….
You know what I’m going to say, so I won’t bother.
I’m concerned though that a gutless, none creative midfield is going to be going into a Derby game run by one of our ex-managers.
The omens aren’t good.

And then, where are the goals going to come from?.
I’m getting even more repetitive, aren’t I?
I know, but it’s the exact same weaknesses that manifest themselves every game after all.
Which goes back to earlier, where I really thought we’d have got some in quicker. Not so much on Bruces’s part, but certainly the likes of Round, who’s had half a season and can surely see what we’ve seen?

Squads then and on Wolves side, they have Romain Saiss away at the African nations, but Ivan Cavaleiro and Prince Oniangue are both back. Mike Williamson played last week after a long term injury and might feature again.

As for us, nothing’s changed although we can go into the game knowing that we’ll have what looks like a decent goalie. A goalie who might prove to be our most important player over the next couple of games.

You’ve probably worked out what I’m thinking and you’re right.

We have no midfield and an attack that doesn’t score.
It doesn’t take much working out, does it?

I can’t see us getting anything out of this at all.
A derby, when we’re not playing well and lack everything that’s required to win a game?

Wolves to win by two.
I can’t even raise myself to go for the draw.

The only hope is the game can’t be as bad as it was against Spurs, surely?
Here’s a proposal.
Sod playing canny. If we don’t look like winning at half time, there might as well be a major change in formation and we should go for it. Preferably with the kids going balls out, where we’ll really see how good or poor they are.
After all, we all know that if we go one down, we’ve no hope of winning a game, the way we’ve been trying up to now.
So why not try something different?

Bruce won’t do it though, because he knows what will happen.

They weren’t so poor when we played them at VP, they totally played us off the pitch and we were jammy to get the draw.

While we’ve got some better players they’ve got a more balanced squad and a squad that have been together for a while.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Villa and Wolves right now, it’s like comparing apples and oranges.

JV Absolutely agree that we have some poor and underperforming players but if Bruce leaves them all out we wouldn’t have enough left to field a team – and the answer is not in fielding more of the development squad although I agree that Green could be given more opportunity – but that’s only one player!

I don’t know why we haven’t been able to secure any transfers but I suspect it’s more difficult than we understand and I also suspect that neither Bruce nor Dr. T want to waste another shed load of cash.

green and davies should started spurs match along with lyden, i have only seen rhm when he got on for first team but have watched gabby for too long ,there is no reason why he should be bullied into signing a contract while gabby starts

Think you’ll find that Lyden is injured if I remember correctly – he was called back from loan because of it.

There is something seriously not right at this club. It didn’t seem to matter who the players or manager is the results and performances are still the same. We still have an error prone goalie for example. The last time we had a half decent midfield was when we had Milner Barry etc and it wasn’t that great even then. We could sign the whole Barcelona team tomorrow and put Pep in charge and I guarantee we’d still struggle. There is a defeatist attitude at the club now we seem to just have players and managers that just do a job but nothing more nothing less. I’m sure if those same players yesterday put on a Brighton shirt they would look half decent. There is just no heart at the club any more the atmosphere is still toxic and the club are going backwards. Dr X us not the answer and maybe we just have to accept that we will be nothing more than a midtable championship club with the odd decent cup run thrown in!

‘Wherever (Sir Graham) Taylor went he ensured that his players were motivated, connected to club and community, and refused to accept complacency.

    Stuck In The Middle

Steve Bruce would do well to learn from the methods of the former England boss if he is to finally sort this ragged bunch out. That said it would be unfair to put all the blame on Bruce’s doorstep as the lingering malaise at this club has proven very difficult to shift as countless former managers have found out.

Villa are in real danger of becoming trapped in the limbo of mediocrity, with little sign of any real progress other than regular rose-tinted tweets and expectation raising promises from our owner. Its good to dream big but improvement can only come if we deal with the very real recurring problems at the club.

For a team so insomnia inducing it baffles me how often it seems to need a wake up call. Next up, Preston, and that won’t be a walk in the park. Hopefully Villa will be able to field a vastly improved team with some solid new recruits. Until then, I’ll keep daydreaming of better times.’

Not my words – I ‘borrowed’ the above but it pretty much sums up the situation at Villa for me.

It’s not just the years under Lerner but the slow decline latterly under Ellis that have contributed to the present. We, the fans have played a part too often prepared to rest on the history of ever fading and more ancient glories.

Will Dr. T be able to lead us to a bright future or will he prove to be another Nero?

Apparently The Sun are saying Bruce wants to sell McCormack and Ayew to fund the acquisition of Bree and Rhodes. Whether or not its true is, to some extent, immaterial but what it does seem to support is that we have to sell to buy. Now whether that’s because of FFP or (as some think) Dr. T’s pockets are deeper than his arms are long who knows!

mccormack and ayew are the most expensive saleable assets in the squad and probably not THIS managers preferred choice, so its probably stands to reason you would try to sell these two and bring in players you NEED.

how much money do we expect to waste ?? you sign mccormack 12mill would you spend another 12mill maybe we land another kodjia. wasn’t ayew also 9mill 10 mill . surely if we were funding this out of our pockets we wouldn’t be so hasty to continue spending wasting more of your money.

mccormack signed by RDM ayew signed by sherwoods. but bruce is left with them.

also somebody mentioned allowing gestede leaving. when your championship club and a premier club, comes in to buy your player and you cant guarantee they will play in your team.then you have to let them go.

we have to do without the main striker 1 month maybe its just 2weeks. mccormack should be able to fill in for this period. this is why bruce needs to be given time to mold a squad. which is capable of covering a injury or suspension without falling apart.

i question why RDM was given the job and the budget.

Nath – with you 100% and tbf Bruce hinted as much with Gestede. Boro’ came in for him and he wanted to go – no point in keeping him against his wishes.

Appointing RDM set us back even further but Dr. T may have gone against the advice he received – very expensive mistake which I think Blues have just repeated – time will tell.

It was Bruce who sold Gestede not RDM. Bruce has lost the plot selling out best striker imo after Kodja. We are as slow as ever bringing in new faces though not much point now as no chance of top 6 imo
