Young in Villa return? Wrong for so many reasons.

The Daily Mail have apparently suggested that Ashley Young might return to the Villa and I have to say it just made me laugh.
First off, I believe Young is on around £120,000 a week. Would he really be willing to take a pay cut of around £100,000 a week to come to us? It’s just a crazy notion.

Then, there’s the transfer fee, where apparently United would be willing to take less than the £17 million they paid us for him.
How about £12 million less? No, I don’t think so and that’s even if we could afford £5 million.
Which we can’t, if the all-in spend of £10 mill including wages is true.

So maybe we’re talking about a loan?
I doubt it myself, as I just don’t think Young is Lambert’s kind of player.

I rated Young highly at the Villa and he gave us some really good moments. Who could forget that goal at Goodison, for instance? But I often criticised him for his diving. Indeed, didn’t he even dive in a game against us? I forget exactly, but I’m pretty sure he did.
I’m not sure how you’d feel about him returning, but my feeling is it’d be doomed to fail.
And even if you dislike the player, it’d at least be a sign of us showing some ambition.

So in short, it just isn’t going to happen is it?

In other news, Roy Keane has categorically said he isn’t going to be Villa’s next manager, when he was specifically asked in an interview.
The mind boggles. While I don’t think for one minute he will be (and definitely hope not, as he’s been useless up to now imo), what was he supposed to say?
“Yeah, I’m here to pinch Lambert’s job”?

So, both non-stories then.

Interesting news that Faulkner has gone. As usual with any Villa announcement it raises more questions than it answers. Did he quit or was he forced out? If he was forced out, who will be the “permanent” replacement, or is this another example of cost cutting to help streamline ahead of a sale?

Erm…did none of you see Lerner’s statement last night? It was to the effect that as long as no buyer has been found we’ll go again…and prepare for next season. It did sound like a bit of a u turn. My mate was just gobsmacked on what’s happening at Villa…

Don’t agree with you Oohah. Club is def for sale. Lerner’s comment is just a business as usual pending that happening. Faulkner leaving is probably part of that focus on getting ready for next season. I don’t really care either way about Faulkner. He has just been replaced by another non-football puppet that counts beans for Lerner. It looks like his leaving has cost little or nothing and that will work for Lerner, and also ensure there is no compensation payment due from any new owner so i guess it’s good all round.

I think we will be sold before the end of next season, possibly a lot earlier. I don’t know if Faulkner leaving shows this is getting nearer but it will happen. There are a small number of interested parties, and they all know the going rate. If one of them comes near Lerner’s valuation then a deal can be done. These things are notoriously slow. Unfortunately, it makes sense for Lerner to be tight with costs/investment so let’s hope its before Xmas so we can address some of the deficiencies in January.

Andrew I wished I could share your enthusiasm mate, but miracles are far from Villa park as flying a kite. Fatty Faulkner was I believe taking a job at the F.A some weeks ago, so where has this come from, If Villa is sold why are they holding back? Seats down, sponsers, missing ,boxes not sold, so why are we going to be sold in a few weeks ,would you not want money in the till before being sold. I’m still not convinced till who ever walks through the doors of Villa park.

Bendtner….although a dickhead off the pitch would be a sensible signing with neither Kozak or Benteke likely to be available for the beginning of the season and Bent likely to move on. Who does that leave to net goals for us as neither Gabby or Weimann are prolific!
It also makes financial sense as there is not a fee to payso his wages would be covered by a potential sell-on fee!
Fuck off Lerner, the Villa is OURS!

Randy Lerner has flown in from the United States to thrash out Aston Villa’s strategy for the summer, after the surprise exit of Paul Faulkner, the chief executive.

Lerner met Paul Lambert, the Villa manager, at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Tuesday in a bid to ease the sense of turmoil following another difficult 24 hours.

The Villa owner assured Lambert that it would be business as usual, despite the departure of Faulkner effectively leaving the club rudderless at a time when it is up for sale.

Lerner is also believed to have reassessed this summer’s transfer budget and may provide further money to strengthen the squad, though it is unlikely to be more than £15 million on fees and wages.
Lambert has signed only Joe Cole and Phillipe Senderos on free transfers and is determined to bring in more quality as he bids to avoid another season of struggle.

He also wants the contract situations of the Holland international Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph and Gabriel Agbonlahor sorted swiftly to avoid the prospect of bids from rival clubs.

However, the loss of Lambert’s close ally Faulkner will do little to clear the overriding feeling of confusion over the club’s future, with Lerner also meeting with players and staff to plead for calm.
While Lambert attempts to bring in new players, a takeover is not remotely close and Lerner has been growing increasingly disillusioned at the lack of interest.

American billionaires Josh Harris and David Blitzer had held tentative discussions earlier this year over a potential takeover but have since disappeared.

Keith Harris, the respected investment banker, is assisting Lerner with the sale and is understood to be flying out to the States in a fortnight to try and generate more interest.

Lerner will listen to offers of around £200million but is almost certain to remain as owner when the new season starts. He could now take on a more hands-on role as a result of Faulkner’s exit.

Faulkner will remain as chief executive until he agrees a severance package but is likely to officially leave later this month.

Villa’s statement insisted Faulkner will part on good terms but sources suggest his relationship with Lerner had become strained in recent weeks over some decisions made over the club’s direction.

Of course, seems why they put unlikely it’ll be more than 15m fees and wages. I personally think Lerner would be a bit smarter than that personally and see it if true at 15m being fees, and then like at most, 1m per player. Maybe 1.5m.

Well, according to the Metro Fatty was actually sacked after Randy offered him a ‘non-operational role’ at Villa and as they put it –
“four years heading up day-to-day operations at Villa Park have coincided with the sharpest decline in the club’s on-field fortunes in a generation. And as the the headline says perhaps Randy maybe even staying after all?
Ermm, so perhaps Oohah’s conspiracy theory may have some credence after all???

Lol If thats the case then the restaurant staff, and the groundsman need to be sacked … If we are putting our faith in the metro and the daily mail and seemingly holding a CEO responsible for on field failures. A role he was clearly too over weight to perform as most fans have stated.
Who else do we think had direct input into football decisions? They should go too

I think he’s going to be more hands on and be more supportive in regards to funding new players. I also believe that Lambert was told something along the lines of he will be given more funds after the books have been balanced, and now with all the cost cutting that has gone on the previous 4 years, more so the last 2 the since Lamberts arrival. My reason for thinking like this is because why would Lambert, who has openly stated a club of our size should be challenging higher, of hung around. I don’t think for a minute Lambert is money motivated therefore he must of been given assurances regarding funding new players when he first took the managers job.

If this if the case then as fat as I’m concerned Lambert deserves a huge pat on the back. Jus my opinion of course.
